The Summer Transfer thread - Part 1.

I disagree, 'fitting in' is hugely important in building team spirit. Without that you can have a world class side and get no where. Ask a Man U fan.
Who was the player who stopped Delfonso taking a pen, in Holloway era. Very good player but certainly not a team player

Our academy staff do a fantastic job.
This is despite them having no home pitch and zero communication support from within the club.
The most informed communication that we receive is always from Insider, who does it out of his love for the club.
The Academy do have one of the media team assigned to them. It's Stuart McCracken. He has now been taken on full time and to be fair he's doing a decent job.
I like to pull a few chains sometimes to chivvy things along but I think on this occasion they simply hadn't finalised the details until now (ish).
Nothing had come out from Wimbledon either tbf.
I'd love to be at the game but it's not really practical. I do hope the Club show some extended video coverage after the game. A live stream would probably not be practical.
I'll follow the twitter feed and post the updates on here.

Just been on transfermarkt and this is the list of expiring contracts, ignore Dembele and Coulson as those are only the loans here expiring, Byers and Rhodes interestingly are available on a free this summer. I would activate the year on Husband and Connolly's contracts, release Chapman and O'Donnell, offer Ekpiteta and Lavery new contracts, and offer Rhodes and Byers permanents, not sure about Virtue
Connolly and Lavery can go for me to free up much needed funds for new arrivals otherwise agree.

The retained list will show the club's ambitions. We must eliminate the deadwood and players who are always injured and get players into the club to take us forward, with the potential to improve and play in the championship.

A quick tall left-footed centre-half, an experienced right-footed tall center-half to replace Marv, and two quick forwards with one being tall. In midfield, we need replacements for Byers and Dembele. and a replacement for Virue who hopefully will be moving on.

If our ambition is to keep the existing forwards and add the injury-prone Rhodes, then next season we will be middle table at best.

If Critch insists in playing with wing-backs we really need to sign two good players that can play there as well.

Michael Smith has just been released. Bagged I think 25 goals this season. Him and Rhodes up top next season would get goals

Don't think so. I'm pretty sure he's been recruited as a 1st year scholar for the U18s.

Connolly gets a lot of stick, some of which is justified, but our first season in the championship he was brilliant in the holding midfield role.

He's been deployed in all manner of positions, including wingback and for me, that's where his decline started. The blame lies with Critch on this one.

The stats clearly show he can win the ball but unfortunately that’s the extent of his ability. No great loss to us and we can (hopefully) do much better.

I rated Turts but Connolly is not up to Championship standards. Good luck to him though if he goes.
Connolly also scores a few goals but none this year, (first championship goal?) but think that is down to frequent positional changes, and being dropped. Rumours, are he spoke his piece to Critchley, and as he, was, sometimes asked to captain the side, Critchley should have been open to listening to his views.
Probably Critches arrogance is the thing that annoys me most, anyone actually like 352 cos I bet players hated it.

I have big concerns for next season already. Our best defenders Ekp, Husband and Gabriel don't seem to want to play for Critch.
These should be our priorities to keep and play in a back 4. We should be getting rid of Thompson and Connolly and getting 2 quality defenders.
Also what annoys me with Critch since he has been here is the amount of players he brings in that are no better than we have. Seems to be happy with a big squad for rotation. He will lose 10 and get 10 average players in and we are better to get rid of 10 and bring in 5 players better than what we have.

And you know this how?

I'm hearing there might be a big cull amongst the young pro's.
That would figure. Very sad if true. What are the incentives for any of them . Loaned out and then moved on largely with , hopefully, the exception of Rob Apter

10 released by Pompey . 6 of those didn't play a minute between them the whole of this season!!
A well paid but hardly glamorous football star year for those 6 . Wonder how much that has cost Pompey?
10 released and thats for the top team . Imagine that at the end of doing your job well? Binned off for all targets met

They are seen day in day out in training and in Development Squad games. Therefore the coaches have enough info to make an informed decision. Again, maybe they don’t play as they are not good enough ?
There are a lot of young players and only a small selection will be good enough. Its tough but there are always younger ones coming up behind each group.

No doubt there will be a few outgoing, but given Sadler's court issues and possible financial concerns, incoming may grind almost to a halt!

I doubt it, the club will have a set budget, the recruitment team and Critchley will work within that. I guess any sales or major transfers may need Sadler's rubber stamp but I can't see things grinding to a halt, that would be the polar opposite of the way Sadler wants any of his businesses being run.

In an ideal world but unfortunately Sadler's current situation is far from ideal and may have significant implications regarding his and the club's financial situation and future.

That's just pure speculation and guess work though? The issue isn't linked to Blackpool FC and shouldn't impact the clubs budget. It'll be years, if not months, before any of this goes to court, that's even if it gets that far. The club statement was clear, it's BAU.

There are some very good players in league 2, who could step up
Daniel Kemp- Mk Dons- 17 goals, 10 assists
Kemp should be available on free as his contract ends this summer and being age 25 means no compensation due.

There are a few other quality young players in League 2 also out of contract:
Conor Masterson - Gillingham - CB (25) - 6 goals and their player of the season.
Jack Nolan - Accrington - Winger (22) - 31 goal involvements (17 goals + 14 assists).
Rio Adebisi - Crewe - LB (23) - 12 goal involvements.

Trying to sign these four players for free seems like a no brainer.

You can't be sure, it's just that you're taking a more hopeful and optimistic view.

The only thing we know is that Sadler has been charged and the club have said it's BAU. Will it impact the club and will Sadler be convicted are two questions that will be answered in the fullness of time. I see little point fearing the worst at this point.

I think Husband will sign a new deal. He’s a good player, can play a variety of positions and is a leader in the dressing room.

I‘d love to sign Marv up to a new deal but I reckon he‘ll be looking for a move to the Championship or at least a move South and some bigger wages. I’m not sure he’d be too hard to replace tbf. CB‘s never seem to be.

Based on how he ended the season I’d extend Carey’s deal be a year.

O‘Donell obviously offers a lot behind the scenes and has been a solid cup GK and safe option off the bench. Probably worth another 12 months if he’s happy seeing out his career as back up with a view to coaching the kids etc.

Of the other out of contract players I can’t say I’d be sad to see them go.

Of the loanees I actually think Rhodes will join on a 1+1.

I think a deal is likely possible for Coulson unless Middlesbrough are struggling at LB or have some financial problems.

Byers could be trickier - he‘s out contract but could possibly be offered a new deal at Wednesday if they’re relegated and will also attravt interest throughout League 1. Signing him would be a yard stick against which our budget and ambitions could be measured.

We‘ll have to watch Kaddy from afar as he either tears up Ligue 1 with Brest or joins one of the top Championship Clubs (my bet is whichever of Southampton or Leeds miss out on promotion).

We need at least 2 match ready, forwards who will each get into the mid/high teens.

We need some power and strength in the midfield - ideally height too. Probably 2 or 3 depending on departures.

And we need to find a creative midfielder who will run at the opposition as relying on Apter to replace Kaddy is just plain unfair.

Would also like a left sided CB depending on departures too.

Ideally I’d also like a couple of out and out wingers - with pace and a decent final ball. I‘m not convinced the WB option is a preference as opposed to a response to the ability of existing players (CJ is a winger but can’t cross 90% of the time - but can get into the same positions of a winger only from much deeper, whilst Dale could cross but lacked pace and presence and left the Left wing exposed defensively) WB‘s were therefore preferred for balances sake and to support a lightweight midfield.
I’m playing golf tomorrow with Ben Knight from Man City so I’ll ask him to sign for us 😜 great midfield player been on loan at Stockport. I won’t sign his application for membership at our golf club if he doesn’t sign! 😂

I'm hearing we won't be having a Development Squad next season.
We'll just utilise the loan market for our 19-21 yr olds.
To be honest until we build the training ground its not really practical.
Critch MK1 told me to my face he doesn't like "reserve team" football.
I wonder where that leaves Dobbie?

I liked Kemp so yes he would be a good signing as attacking midfield.
Agree the others look promising as we struggled creating goals

Critchley's background is reserve team football and to honest that is where he deserves to ply his trade with his 2 stooges

The Leyton Orient forward, Ruel Sotiriou (age 23) is also out of contract and I think he'd be worth a punt on. He got 12 goals and 5 assists last season, Dembele only registered 5 more goal contributions in the league (for comparison).
