Three games without a goal

It`s very early days but those who thought promotion would be a doddle may be starting to think again although I wonder whether such people actually think at all.

We should have won easily today but the finishing was atrocious. some nice build up play but it must be disheartening for the midfielders, Anderson went looking for goal himself in desperation.

Maybe a confidence thing and when one goes in the floodgates will open. UTMP

Yeah just the strikers don't look clinical so far.

There's more than one team in a game. They were well organised defensively and dangerous down the left in attack.
That apart, our finishing was very poor.
Yates - is he a striker or not?

Quality football from the men in tangerine (cold start apart) the best team lost. We are going up as feckin champions

To win games you need a good defence at one end and the ability to score more than the opposition at the other end. So far I`m not sure we have demonstrated either in our competitive games. Let`s hope our manager can recognise the above needs and sort them out.

I did express my doubts about Yates as a goalscorer for us at this level given his time at Rotherham when we signed him ,I hoped I was wrong but nothing so far has made me think so.

As I said it`s very early days so let`s hope for better to come.

Yates is being allowed to chase the ball. He should be stopped and made to wait for the ball in and around the edge of the penalty area or (a la Lineker) poach on the edge of the six yard box.

Crazy how people seem to just ignore putting two past the champions of England who also have one of the best gk’s in the world between the sticks... any excuse to be negative eh

I genuinely think that goal gave Plymouth the chance to do what they will have expected to do later in the game - defend for their lives. In essence that was clearly the game plan.

And three past England’s goalkeeper, everyone needs to calm down, on another day we would scored 4 yesterday, someone’s gonna get a hiding soon and the positivity will flow. Maybe not on here though 🤦🏻‍♂️

A preseason friendly is not a yard stick to measure a team in competitive matches. One goal in five competitive games for the manager is a poor record. After the dismal Grayson experiment Sadler then has picked a guy with zero experience of managing. His team is littered with league two standard players and it showed yesterday in what was one of the poorest performances i can recall. Zero cutting edge up front. Nottingham wasn't good enough two years ago. Critchley will end up worse than Grayson. The post Oyston era has been awful on the pitch.

Morning Karl 😆

Some Football fans ( not just us) are always quick to push the panic button way too early
I wonder if they are like that with life in general?
Think about it ,take a step back and imagine you watched yesterdays game as a neutral
Be honest you would honestly wonder how we didn't get something out of the game
That many chances in one game! It would have taken Grayson's team a quarter of the season to make that many
I have every confidence that before long we will click and teams will dread playing us
And it's been over ten years since I've let like that
Let's look forward to a very entertaining season

Wanting Yates to play the traditional number 9 role in this formation shows how little some people know about football.
There is no place for that role when using these tactics, do some research, there's more to football than 442.

Who was MOTM for Plymouth?
Surely it was their goalie for making 4 excellent saves.

After the Oxford game remember the moaners complaining how lucky we were and would have felt better if we were unlucky losers!
So now you can rejoice after yesterday

Are you a relation of spiders?

So Swindon are top and Accrington are currently in the runners up spot.
Hands up if anyone thinks they'll both be above Blackpool, Oxford and Peterborough by the end of the season 😁

Yeah, I understand that, you only have to look how Liverpool play. But here's the point. Although Firmino drops deeper than the other two, those other two get themselves into the box. If Mane is out wide left, Salah gets himself into the box and vice versa. That's what we don't really do[yet].

It's all well and good putting the ball into the box, even though at times the balls/passes/crosses are terrible we are just not getting enough men in there. So for example if Hamilton is going down the right, the left wide player needs to be thinking of getting into the box a bit quicker.

19 shots
64% possession
Passes 565 Accuracy 83 %
Anyone looking at those stats would guess we'd have won it was just a bad day at the office in front of goal.

Those stats are a very good start however what I did notice is that of those 19 shots we had 4 on target. If we can look to double this number per game, we will have an excellent season whilst scoring plenty of goals. Swindon yesterday had something like 9 shot on target scoring three goals, which is a ratio of one in three. This is what we need to be trying to achieve.

What you mustn't forget is that Plymouth are a well organised team who have been playing together for quite a while, so are aware of each others games. Whereas our players are all fairly new to each other and will need a few competitive games to bed in properly. The signs were there yesterday of a decent team, but also the hesitation to shoot or pass to those that were in a better position, probably because they were unaware of their presence. We all need to stop panicking, look at the positives and leave Critch to work on the negatives. Don't panic, don't panic Mr Mainwaring.

I'd rather be a Blackpool fan than an Oxford, Peterborough or Sunderland fan. 👍

I think it will all take time to come together, it's more foolish to think that such an overhaul and transition to a new system will be instantaneous like some people expect; we're already at the stage where Yates isn't good enough in some peoples eyes.
These are all young players who are still learning the game as well as Critch's system, they need to be afforded the time it will take and the mistakes that will be made before we get to where we need to be.

As much as I am gutted about not being back in the ground, the utterly toxic section of our support actually makes me glad that our players don't and won't have to listen to the bile that will be spouted when we aren't spanking teams every week. We've already had comments on here about yesterday being a horror show and as bad as someone has ever seen. They're absolute clowns, and don't deserve a chairman like SS who has transformed this club from top to bottom in such a very short time.

Stats can be misleading. Their keeper played well and was MOTM but basically most of his saves were from shots from outside the box. The concern for me was that we didn't get on the end of anything in the box apart from a breakaway in the first half where the keeper made a good save. Just think that when we are dominating possession which we largely did yesterday, we need to be far more incisive in and around the box. Not enough players working hard to get in the box was my biggest criticism.

Finest

I won't quote all your post but basically there's some on here whose content is simply not worth paying attention to. They are just trying to wind you up. Pretty obvious who they are, just ignore their posts.

I've plenty of them already on ignore!
