Toby Sibbick - Hearts offer rejected

Hearts released details of the offer to the daily record but don’t want to sell him? Or do they want to attract other clubs into the bidding?
Shaky ground there Hazi. How do you know Hearts released the info? More liked his agent. I'd imagine a buyer could as well just to unsettle the player if they were confident of snaring him.

Bang on though aren't they?
Yep. Can't see a problem with what they say.

Flip situations and what's in it for Hearts and the player.

I'd rather this not distract from finding players who CAN come here until the end of the season and affect results positively. Taking over remaining time on contracts, swapping loans out or whatever it might be.

Summer tends to be when we piss about with flights of fancy that are never going to come off.

Right or wrong still very arrogant and disrespectful of the club and town, using typical stereotypes. Funny that as the Scottish love the town generally and many of their permanent imports brought their issues with them 🙄

It sounds like a lot to us because we aren't used to such fee's after having the Oyston's for so long but if we think he is a ready made Championship defender who is still young enough to develop further then these figures aren't huge. If he comes to us and does well in the Championship then he is suddenly worth millions if a club at the top end of the division comes in for him.

Would we be any different if it was Jerry Yates being chased by another club?
I’ve seen figures of between £4m-£5m he’s been valued by fans on here.
If someone offered say half a million quid how would we react on here? No doubt in the exact same way.
This lad seems pretty much one of their best players and certainly one for the future with his age yet we’ve offered £300,000 (if you believe the Hearts fans) so why is everyone calling them out? He’s clearly worth much more with his age.
Does the lad even want to come here?
Edinburgh to Blackpool? 🤔

£600k according to the Daily Record, but it’s a valid point.

Embra innit 😂
Apologies to the 🧡 up there.

Stereotyping and disrespectful of our town? When it comes to commenting on Scotland AVFTT is a seasoned professional at stereotyping and disrespecting. It works both ways unfortunately.

But as you say having lived in Edinburgh for over 20 years I can say the majority of Scots love Blackpool.

SPL to the Championship is the question he wants to be asking himself.

It’s embarrassing we go in with these derisory offers. Makes us look even more tinpot.
Why the feck would they sell him for basically what they paid for him? In January as well, when no-one wants to lose their best players. 2.5 years left on his contract. Makes no sense. It’s insulting.
Go back with a min £1m - £1.2m offer or don’t fcuking bother. Had enough of these amateur games from Bullshït Ben in the last transfer window.

Ahh that makes it OK then.

Yep disrespectful and the funny thing is it would be so easy to stereotype the other way... ironic to criticise Blackpool when some Scottish have contributed to the problems. 🙄

But I do like the normal Scots and Scotland itself 😉

A 600k opening offer for a player who's probably worth Circa £1-£1.25m isn't a derisory bid, it's the kind of offer almost every transfer between 2 clubs starts with then they negotiate from there.

We've been guilty with crap bids in the past, no doubt, but this seems like a reasonable starting point.

Let's not pretend that a 'fans valuation' is anywhere near what he's really worth, £3m would buy you a decent Championship CH not a lad who'd had a dozen good games in Scotland, read what Hearts fans were saying about him when he first signed for them, they'd have snapped our hands off for 600k then, he's since had a dozen good games (started 12 of the last 13) and scored against Hibs and suddenly he's worth £3m?? Don't be daft.

600k is a fair 'opening' offer for a lad of his experience who cost them 250k 12 months ago.

It'll probably take nearer to £1m with a decent sell on clause and maybe a couple of add ons, whether we want to go that high remains to be seen.

He's big and called Siddick, so if we sign him his nickname has to be Big Dick...
He's actually called Sibbick so his nickname would have to be Big Bick.

Anyway, Hearts paid 250k for him so it's not unreasonable to offer 400k/600k for him and I bet he'd rather play in the Championship than the SPL. As Hearts have him under contract for a couple of years they will hold us to ransom cos they don't want to sell someone who is performing really well for them. So our chances look slim.

But why did he leave Barnsley age 22 for 250k, a year ago? Contract nearly up? Their fans weren't happy apparently.

Hope this isn’t another Brannagan saga
My thoughts exactly.
SPL v Championship could well be league one next season for us.
Living in around Edinburgh v living Blackpool area.
Will we pay him more than he’s on now? Hearts are a bigger club than Blackpool so it’s a no brainer for me as a player unless he’s desperate to return to England which clearly doesn’t seem the case here.
Let’s just hope he’s doesn’t have a fish pond as will really kill off any possible deal.

Hearts fan here. I come in peace.

Sorry folk are being rude about Blackpool on our forum. We're fond of Sibbick but the rudeness is unnecessary.

In the last month or so, he's been performing extremely well.

Tackle from the first derby:

Assist against Aberdeen:

Goal in the second derby:

This will be why you are interested, and this is why we're not keen to give him up, he's come on leaps and bounds and is becoming a fan favourite. He does seem to be a bit of a confidence player but now he's settled into the team and firing on all cylinders he's showing some great quality.

Is he worth several million right now? Probably not, and probably not even to us. Europe is worth a few million to us, but we have a strong side and a good buffer of points and are going to take it anyway. But we're financially solid and don't need to sell so lowballing us won't get very far, and returning to Europe with a settled team increases our chances of causing some upsets. This year we were fighting through an unprecedented injury crisis. Next year hopefully we won't be.

£1m and a decent sell on clause probably opens a more serious conversation, but we will be thinking also what he'll be worth later and the value of keeping a team together that's finally starting to click.

English football v Scottish football.
Shop window v Back of beyond.
Miles from homes v less miles from home
Same money or better I'd imagine. No point otherwise.

I'll be shocked if Hearts let him go though, even if his agent is trying to lever a move.

Thanks for posting. We have an ongoing issue with our recruitment where if it's not the easy wins like loans and frees then it can quickly come across as a bit scattergun and pointless. Like Scrappy Doo offering everyone out for a fight but with no way of actually fighting.

Usually take it or leave it low bids for players in the last six months of their contracts, as if club and player is just going to drop everything for us. Or like this seeing who's doing well and then a bit of random tyre kicking.

I wouldn't worry, and you don't sound like you are anyway. If there's anything in it for this to have leaked for whatever reason then it won't go very far. At least not with us anyway. But obviously if player/agent start to think about having a good season for what comes next and is getting noticed then he'll go to the highest bidder eventually. Or if it's known that you've got money in the pot to offer him with being a more stable club now, be chasing an improved contract.

Cheers, it all means little unless the lad actually fancies the move. That's even if we can agree a fee. It's clear we have some money and are keen on bringing in another mobile CB. Regardless of how it pans out, good luck for the rest of the season. 👍🏼

Let's face it, the SPL is a joke beyond Celtic and Rangers. What the fuck are you playing for? Third? Europa League second round qualifying jolly to Baku?

How many players have left BFC over the years - unable to get a gig in L2 - and gone on to have decent careers up North that span years. Scott Vernon? Kirk Broadfoot? What's the lad called - the worst left back in our history, Charles Dunne? HE'S PLAYED OVER 100 SPL GAMES!

If we were midtable this would be nailed on - because of our league position don't blame the player for passing on it.

I think it's a case of our new boss naming a player he'd like and us making an 'attempt' at signing him rather than just saying no. Critch presumably wanted Brannagan and we did what SS was prepared to do. Internal club politics if you like. Brannagan may have been a litmus thing for Critch who needed more quality in central midfield especially after Wintle left but didn't get it.

The Sibbick timing isnt good either just after a 3-0 win at Hibs in which he was MotM and scored an audacious third goal. They'd piss their fans off big time if they sold him now.

Maybe. Try for loads, see what happens. Though without any success rate behind us in making things like that work then our more likely market is over on the Aden Flint thread. Where Stoke look like they're wanting to move players on for Alex Neil to rebuild. And taking over remaining time on a contract to bring in a surplus player who wants to be playing seems like the more attainable and realistic scenario to me in the predicament we find ourselves in.

I agree. I think we just show willing when a manager says he really wants a player but knowing that our chances are not great. Rather than having a frank discussion with our own manager about what is realistic!

Another Hearts fan here. This post is laughable and full of ignorance. Would Sibbick rather be playing Fiorentina/Istanbul/Rangers/Celtic/Hibs in front of packed stadiums or for Blackpool against Morcambe in front of two men and a dog?

I’ve been the corner flag for afternoon tea for my birthday and whilst there. Cameramen we’re in the dugout along with mick McCarthy and a coloured lad having his photo taken and being I terviwed and then a tall white guy ( as tall as McCarthy) having his photo taken and Interview and both of them did handshakes with McCarthy. This looked very much like two new signings to me. Hope I’m right. Got pics but don’t know how to post them on here.
Are you allowed to say 'A coloured lad'?😠

It can be dressed up however you want, but ultimately, the SPL is a poor league kept afloat by two teams. The best you can hope for is to get into Europe, get spanked by a Czech Republic side and troddle on back home

Whether you like it or not, the Championship is more appealing than playing for an also ran club in the SPL. The standard is far higher and the rewards for doing well are considerably more. Plus he's probably worried if he stays in Scotland too long he'll end up deep-fried. 😂

And how long will you last coming up against any of those clubs?
Even the two 2 so called giants seem to have a habit of going out in the first rounds.
So much for Scottish football the SPL is on a par with the championship some would argue even league one it has been since it was formed and it will never change.

I'm not sure you'll get too far with any experienced Manager adopting those sort of tactics.. It's generally pretty obvious whether or not you are serious about buying a player or not.

The initial 'dance' that occurs prior to reaching (or failing to reach) an agreed price for any player is just what it is.... A process that both sides understand and that it has become customary to go through... We're no different than any other club when it comes to lowball offers.

At least we will beat Morecambe. U will lose all those except for Hibs. Hearts are actually my favorite Scottish team, but bar Rangers and Celtic the rest of the SPL teams would struggle to get out of league 1. Teams like Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich would be more favored and proving hard for them. Plus if they did make it there crowds and spending would dwarf that of SPL teams.
We won't get the player but he will lose form, or if he continues to be good hello Rangers or another English team.
Not meaning to sound aggressive but realistic. We won't get the guy.
P.S... there's only one John Robertson...
