Tom Ince

It's well documented that I'm not a Pool fan so I am interested on your views. Paul Ince was on the radio today and it got me thinking about Tom. I recall his time at Blackpool was impressive and he was destined for bigger things, which hasn't happened. The question is....was Tom overrated or was he very good and not fulfilled his potential. Some players seems to be at the right club at the right time, maybe that was the case. What are your thoughts Pool fans.

Both.
Had talent and ability. He was over rated by his father though who meddled and relatively ruined his career. Should have been a regular star in a Prem team.
Bit of an odd character Ince senior, how did he ruin his career? It's sad to see talent go downhill, Sancho is struggling, Delle Ali is a shocker.

Great skill on the ball. Good attacking wide player. He was perfectly suited to the MK2 Holloway team, we could keep the ball all day in a quality midfield then Ince and less so Phillips ripped them apart down the flanks

Right at the end of the Holloway time there was apparently a piece of skill that everyone on here talked about for weeks. Sadly I wasn't there to see it, but help me out folks was it when we mullered Ipswich? How he collected a long pass on the wing and flicked it over his head.

With Holloway gone the focus changed from winning 10-9 to 1-0. His skills never again got the showcase or team support they needed.

There'll be people on here who can tell you better than me about how snr was trying to orchestrate his move elsewhere.

What do you mean you're not a Blackpool fan?

He was a very good player especially for us but his dad fucked up his career!

Can’t remember who we were playing but I’ll never forget that piece of brilliance

I just think T’ince was never going to be a prem player

Tearing prem defences apart is different gravy to championship

He played in the prem for various clubs and not fancied

Don’t think his dad was to blame he just wasn’t quite there

Just don’t think he was quite good enough

I remember that one, it was against Bristol City. He collected a long pass out to the wing with his back to their goal and somehow managed to control it, spin and beat his man all in one. Amazing piece of skill.

He was a decent championship player at his very best, no more. His career after pool has proved that. The massive love in for him when he was here was way over the top imo. Blaming his dad for ruining his career is also ridiculous!

I don't live in Chorley anymore! Anyway I'm a passive fan I've not watched a live game for years. In fact the last few matches I've been to were Chorley, better laugh.
Yeah always a good day at Victory Park. Lived in Chorley for a few years a while back, wasn’t the nicest place back then but the centre is lovely these days. The rest of it is still a bit iffy though!

I genuinely believed he would be the first Pool player to play for the England senior team in many a year.

As it was he made the U21's, we even hosted a game here at Bloomers.

Super Kevin Phillips was asked out of Ince, Sterling and Zaha who was the most progressed at that stage if their careers. Kev had played with 2 that season and had no hesitation in naming Ince.

As stated previously his dad ruined his career.

Good to look back at what a fantastic player he was in tangerine:

I never realised before now that you didn't support the Mighty Shandy.

I guess it's no big deal, not the first on here and won't be the last.

Very small minority. Minuscule amount, a lot more united, city, Liverpool, Bolton and Blackburn fans.
Anyway all, thanks for the comments on Tom.
Will it settle your mind if I tell you it was a home game against Middlesborough, early season.
Ball crossed out to Ince with two ‘Boro players closing in on him. A flick and a spin and he was gone. The two defenders looking at each other with “where the f**k is the ball” faces.

Great video.. What a side we had that season after the Prem
Ferguson,
Ince
Kev & Matt Phillips
Shelvey
GTF
Lua Lua etc

He was really good for us, super skillful, quick and strong. He played with arrogance too.

He set up (or scored) a great goal away at Huddersfield in the last minute, I remember how he shrugged off a big defender to get us an unlikely draw.

I think we were a bit spoiled then, we had a super talented side. Remember when we thumped Wednesday 0-3 away? One of their fans asked why we were bouncing for 90 minutes, another replied he would be too if he could watch such good football every week.

England under 21, brilliant at times when motivated. Became a spoilt brat when his dad took over. Like all young players, he needed guidance and encouragement, Pince thought he could take him to Italy, didn't happen, and he never again played again in a team with that much support and guidance. Sad, really

Chorley had an interesting old Record shop called ‘Drumbeat’. Bit of a dusty treasure trove. Nice fella in there would make a me a brew when I was browsing, as he knew I’d come from Blackpool just for a look.

Anyone know if it’s still there?

Anyway, more on the topic of Tom Ince. There was a period under Ollie when he would change games for us, although he had a strong team around him for support too.

I particularly remember beating Donny and Leeds at home. Both 2-1 come backs after going a goal down. Tom scored a brace v Donny and the second goal was just lovely.

I'd love it if he could be invited back to speak etc when his playing career ends.

He was absolutely brilliant

Yes really good player that hasn’t done much since leaving Blackpool. He’s playing tonight for Reading away to Brum and he’s not getting a sniff. 2-0 to Brum after 34 min Deeney with both goals.Oops he nearly got one back then😀Then Brum go up other end and score 3-0.
