Tory Party down to two possibles….

when the ballot papers come out, I'll be voting for Rishi, not because I want him as PM but because Truss would be a disaster

It now seems highly likely that we will again be lumbered with an untrustworthy cheat as PM, voted in by less than 160,000 Nasty Party members!
In 2006 Miss Truss(t) was caught up in a scandal after her affair with a former Nasty Party MP became public. He was the Shadow Minister for London who was assigned as her political mentor. It led to the breakup of his marriage and subsequent divorce. The affair lasted about 18 months. She returned to her husband!

Neither would be a disaster but Sunak would have more chance of beating Labour. Truss isn't exactly lovable.

Mordaunt may get her chance if the Tories lose big.

I am sure the Tory members will pick the best candidate. After all they selected Iain Duncan-Smith over Ken Clarke. 😂

Both candidates are tarred with the previous cabinet, and although Sunak might be marginally better, it looks like it will be Truss, backed up by Doris, Rees-Mogg and Coffey. Therefore very little change in terms of direction.
Starmer might as well book his removal van now for two years time.
Massive missed opportunity to present a fresh approach.

Comments like this are why the Tories were handed an 80 seat majority, you lot just don’t learn.
You're happy with the two candidates? And how did comments like those gain an 80 seat majority? They aren't snappy/catchy enough to be put on the side of a bus.

Truss should give Boris a minister without portfolio role if she gets the top job and he could basically be a troubleshooter. If talks are deadlocked whether that be trade deals or issues with individual countries then get Boris involved to get things moving by the sheer force of his character. Think Boris would enjoy it as well as he wouldn’t have to be on top of his brief and as he’s loved overseas he’d be a real asset for the country.

Well that's the pompous tory twats getting rid of a scary new possible prime minister, who the majority of Conservative members wanted and the continuation Boris candidates get through as Tory MP's worry about their own futures, not the countries.

I may well have voted for Mordant but there is no way I would ever vote for slimy, oil slick Sunk or ** useless Truss. Looks like the Tory's have had enough in power because they're going to get their arse kicked now.

I'm just spat out my brew out. Funny as that comment 🤣👍

Party members want standard party policies, which is tax cuts, Rishi might have to review his stance
Tory Party members want the globe to be 1/3rd empire pink. They want capital punishment. They want national service - it never did them any harm. They want convicts to be flogged. They want mandatory military bands on Sundays. The want an end to unemployment benefits. They want children to be seen and not heard. They want Imperial measurements. They want a return to grammar schools and the 11+. They want to wave the Union flag. They don't want immigrants. They want no Irish, no blacks and no dogs. They want to be under 70 years of age but they're not.

the real old school tories have got a real dilemma on their do they let their racism or their sexism prevail
It could also suggest how diverse we have become, including the Tory party, in terms of sex and colour when the last two standing in a leadership competition are Sunak and Truss.

For balance.

Your proctologist called they found your head

no need to try and smell, I'll make it really clear for you, I've been a member (and for many years, activist) within the party since I was old enough to join the Young Conservatives in the '70s apart from when I was living overseas and when "Call Me Dave" was the party leader
I don't believe that the young Conservatives are popular among their adult peers.

Strangely, I was a member of the Young Socialists.

I’m not saying BFC fans are visionaries but we did predict that Maudant wouldn’t get the gig over seven year ago,
“Not Penny Maudn’t,
Not Penny Maudn’t,
Not Penny Maudn’t.”

The apparent diversity of ethnic minorities and women candidates is usurped by the true qualification for being a leading Conservative - class. The Tories can stand colour ethnic minority and women. What they can't stand is the working class.

Very true Lala. I'm trying to remember when the Labour Party, (the kinder and more inclusive face of politics) had a non white or female leader?

A very good point - I'm not being sarcastic. Labour should choose the best candidate to be leader. Corbyn definitely wasn't. They've had English, Welsh and Scots leaders, a Jewish leader but not a woman and not a person of colour. This needs to be addressed.

A bit like the England Women's football team then.

Shocking choice of candidates in the first place to be honest.

Of the two I’d say Liz Truss because Putin hates her and that can’t be a bad thing.

And I never trust a man who’s filthy rich.

Reckon the Rishi fellah is a better bet at 6/4 than Truss at odds on.
Not really when it's party members who get to vote and not the general public.
The opinion polls asking membership early on said they'd vote for anyone but Sunak he's going to seriously have to pull this out of the bag and if he does Labour have got a problem.

Did you see KS today? Mean-spirited, completely unable to offer a single kind word for the outgoing PM. Classless.

I disagree but not just to be disagreeable. New Labour had had its day. Unfortunately Ed became leader too early. He would have been a fine PM. It is testament to him that he stayed with the party unlike his brother.
He stabbed his brother in the back and was only backed by the Unions.
Centre left is what wins votes Starmer knows that if only he could rid the Ginger Growler then he'd piss a GE.
