Turnstiles, delay kick off

Near field communication. Sort of very localised Bluetooth
Thank you. If it needs to be on and people don't know what it is then it's not surprising there are problems. I have a card, so no issue yesterday.

Me and 3 more with me all used our phones no problem whatsoever. Guy behind me used his but it wouldn't work until I told him to check his nfc was turned on, it wasn't. I agree with one of the posts above, in a lot of cases it's not the technology, it's the users, but it's a learning curve so shoukd get smoother
Fair point. I was half joking with the steward that I didn't know what to do. Helpfully he told me to put the back of the phone up to the scanner. I hadn't been aware of that.

I’ve waited years to finally read a post about NFC on here. I feel all warm inside!!

As Wiz says NFC is just a format for transmitting. It’s like a little radio device inside your phone. The plastic reader at the turnstile is waiting to read what your phone transmits.

It’s the tech that is used on tap and go payment systems, the underground in London etc. Apple phones have a really good one built in, Android is dependent on the manufacturer. Apple is always on, Android you have to switch it on.

Once you get used to it, it will always work quickly. I deployed this type of tech in a US stadium that holds 60k and it should be robust as hell. (Although I don’t know who BFC use for their tech)

Typically the guy in front of me couldn’t get his phone app bollox to beep and was a good 7 or 8 minutes fannying about with different phone angles n got nowhere. Then it happened to guy on other turnstile at north. Long Q growing. If it were still pissing down it may have got shitty for the stewards too. Eventually a steward took my advice to allow problem phone jobs thru by pressing turnstile pedal. Absolute shite IMO. I sailed thru with my card. Glad I got it n easily the best way in.

Gates 7 and 8 where the best. Very helpful turnstile operater named Paul. All credit to him. Wish everyone was like him 5*****for customer service

I joined the queue 20 mins before kick off and although I had no trouble with my ticket, others had problems and I missed kick off. I expect things will speed up once people get used to it.

People with cards were stuck in queue behind people trying to get signal on phone or fanny about trying to get it to work.

They should have two separate gates so that they can keep the flow of people entering

I don’t have a clue if my tickets worked or my three kids, the stewards just said how many, I said 4 and he let us in!
Anyone who says there were no issues were either in at 2 pm or left it until late by which time they had canned scanning and were just letting people in as fast a possible.

I agree it’s not the technology it’s the user but with the demographics of football fans this was always going to be an issue and should have been planned far better.
The “I’m alright Jack” people who look down at everyone else and call them, don’t help the situation at all! I get frustrated when I’m stuck behind people who can’t use technology but we have to accept some people can’t and we need to make systems and allowances for them. Poor implementation from the club!

How many people have realised there's also a bar code on their digital ticket which you can use as an alternative? Look at the bottom of the page. "Show code".

Guy at 3-4 had me open mine ready that early my phone was back on lock when got to turnstile and didn’t realise as youngun was having her bag searched. They all certainly tried to make it as simple as possible, 1st time will always be hickups

to say there weren't problems is simply a nonsense. Just because some, probably even the majority didn't have a problem, doesn't mean there weren't problems. Even the steward couldn't get the scanner to read our codes and it was only when we actually put the phone in to the machine itself it actually read them. And one poster of here couldn't get in at all with his and was told to go to the ticket office. We arrived at about 2:15 and there were already big queues at gates 3-4 and 7-8.

Maybe the stewards weren't 100% up to speed. The one on our gate was maybe a bit more clued in, as he told us from the off to put the phone in the slot with the bar code in first.

Hopefully the ones running the turnstile tech are more competent than the company that does the EPOS in the concourse, one of the card readers, all on poles that someone has tried to glue down has come unstuck.

So was it the user or the system?
The Q just wasn’t moving and seemed to be 50/50 whether someone got in with no issue to someone who just couldn’t get through for whatever reason.
Surely if you are not confident using it you have had it up at home so you know exactly what you need to do and even when you are approaching the turnstile you have it ready as opposed to trying to sort it the second you get there?

The system crashed so I bet there was a hold up initially. We joined a long queue but went down very quickly when they bypassed the system.

See 20s post above - there are definitely problems with the system. I'm an Android user and was unaware that I would have to stick the bloody barcode on my digital ticket inside the reader to get through
