UK economy grows faster than France & Germany since 2019

Some good news on the economy is the revising (again) of the economic figures which shows better growth since 2019 than originally thought.

Now I'm not saying that it's evenly spread; but it's better than the 0.2% contraction the ONS originally thought.

Yet again though, it shows up that decisions are being made on very incomplete data which affects every one of us.

Now that really is weapon grade straw clutching!
We’ve grown a little bit more than our rivals but raised our debt to massive destructive levels thanks to the amazing lead of Hancock and Truss.

That’s like saying I’ve got an extra £10k in my bank account than my mates but I took out a £500k loan to do so 😳
So it's not good news?

Just got back from the weekly meeting at my local branch of the anti-growth coalition. Needless to say we are all devastated. Weekend ruined. Not sure what our next steps are but efforts must be doubled.

The forecasts always seem to be wrong and predicting things will be worse, seems a bit strange, incompetent or biased? As those predictions are usually used politically to beat brexit or whatever else with.

But what is your pocket or your purse telling you? Mine is seeing 14.5% inflation on food and drink shopping. Mine has witnessed huge rises in gas and electricity prices - for which it's been trebles all round in the oil and utility boardrooms. Now the water companies want extra money from their customers to do a job that they should have been doing all along. Meanwhile our Government has been freeing up these same companies to continue pouring shit into our rivers and seas whilst courting the Torygraph, Heil and Express readership with non-existant culture wars. Excuse me if I don't raise a glass myself.

Biased with a hint of incompetence. Check back at posts on here where I said vehemently that the official forecasts would be shown to be wrong. I'm not saying the UK's economy is in rude health but it's where it should be in relation to the rest of Europe.

You seem to be making entirely seperate points.

I was saying about the forecasts always being wrong and usually always on the negative side.

The inflation and costs were seeing is largely the covid borrowing and Ukraine, with a small hint of brexit.

But people use those pie in the sky forecasts usually as a stick to beat the government or whoever with, but rarely are they accurate and they always seem to look negatively at our prospects.

A large dollop of Brexit actually.

Not really, the other 2 factors are far larger, that's why everyone has been suffering and we're actually doing better than some.
The Government had the option of reducing fuel bills by reducing oil companies profiteering but deliberately chose not to.

Priorities.

That may be the case, but doesn't change my original point on the thread.

Is that the same in other countries or is that not relevant?

I have relatives visiting from Canada at the moment and the situation is eactly the same over there
with prices going through the roof. I saw it for myself a short while ago when I was over there.
My friend who lives in New York is telling me the same is happening there with prices.
Another friend in Spain tells me the same
So no it's not just the UK. But of course that doesn't fit the agenda.

My post was explaining that a comparison of the UK's economic performance statistic with that for two other countries is no reason for celebrating when people's lived experience has been so poor over recent years. It may also be true in other countries. That was not my point.

Nevertheless it is a most relevant point and one which should not be conveniently overlooked.

You're singling out the UK when it would appear that most developed countries in the world have suffered the same. As 20's has said, it is a most relevant point. I don't see how it can't be relevant

All looking rosey then for the U.K. 🇬🇧

Just think of the money being saved on cancelling the Birmingham-Manchester HS2 as well. 👍

The common denominator is corruption, incompetence, ignorance and bone idleness.

Other half went to the surgery for a blood test this morning to be told staff were on strike.

Put the bins out and found out now the bin men are on strike.

We have tube strikes, train strikes, doctors strikes, consultant strikes and teacher strikes.

Our taxes are about to go up yet again.

Well done to all those who voted for Brexit 👍

Interesting linking strike action to Brexit.

What about all those strikes when were part of the EU?

Lazy, scrounging bxxxxxxs. Time they went back to work and got the country thriving again.

Strikes caused by workers wanting their wages to keep up with inflation

Of course there's no strikes whatsoever going on in EU countries.

Imagine calling a doctor or a nurse lazy. Do you have any idea the amounts of hours they work? The prevelance of burnout, stress, anti social hours, night shifts, weekends given up?

My post clearly went over your head. I was making the point that it was almost as far fetched as blaming brexit for the strikes.
