VAR eh?

I'd rather not have it, than it make such ridiculous errors. I mean, it an official gets it wrong on the pitch then that's one thing, but to have all thoes angles and technology and still get it wrong would make me so angry. I will say that it happening to Liverpool made me laugh, just because I knew the meltdown would be of epic proportion.

It's so shit isn't it, they need to just bin it off.

For those who haven't seen, it's in ref to this...

The traffic wardens using it, pissed on their own importance without having an understanding of playing the game are ** it up badly.

Those audios they released were an eye opener, absolute chaos with people just shouting out.

The offside one today was beyond baffling. I think they missed the defender in the middle and went off the right back 😵‍💫

The maddest thing is, if I said the above as a footballer or coach, I’d be heavily fined and banned. Even Jermaine Jenas as a pundit had to go on a charm offensive after his tweet last week saying he got it wrong and kissing refs arse. A culture has been created where they are aloof and nobody can say a bad word without being punished for actually making fair points.

Most of the refs are actually dogshit.

Jota first yellow was very very soft, I dont think it was a yellow and Jones red I don't think is a red, however with slow mo it makes it looks so much worse than it was, his foot slips up off the ball rather than just going straight over it and then they freeze it at that moment making it look horrible.
The red was similar to the Casemiro one last season, so they've actually started to get some consistency with thoes.

I agree VAR is awful. Not fit for purpose.

I disagree that all refs are dogshit though - all refs are human, they make mistakes, 98.5% of there decisions are probably correct though. To vilify them and hound them has consequences - consequences that are seen right down to grass roots level football with young 13 year old kids wanting to be referees

In my opinion it should be completely automated or binned. We've implemented the system to reduce human error, with... Human error.

I was wrong here, even worse, according to a guy who does the weekly VAR decisions analysis on Twitter, the guy on VAR thought the goal had been given 🤣 so told the ref decision correct. So they’ve gone with the offside but VAR man thought it was a goal.

Once the free-kick is taken they can’t go back.

You couldn’t make it up but they are.

Aaaah here we go.

Most refs are shite, I’ve no doubts it’s a hard job & I wouldn’t want to do it, most normal people want to play football rather than ref it.

The point is, they’ve got technology and referees, that’s who’s at Stockley Park by the way being paid very well, are still getting it wrong 🙈 it’s not good enough.

We need more footballers, whether that’s decent amateurs or ex-pro’s refereeing. They understand the game & the players.

We’ve had Mike Dean saying recently he didn’t want to change a VAR because his colleague and friend had a tough match.

Challenging this isn’t causing problems at grassroots. I would argue, shit refereeing is what causes the problem.

Is it time to bring in Var2 consisting of 12 ex referees and say 20 ex prem players monitoring the original Var lot, who give messages to the 3 traditional officials, who are susceptible to er human error.
Failing this, perhaps loads of ex referees standing shoulder to shoulder all around the pitch with direct access to Var2.
Or scrap the fuckin lot and get back to pre Var days.

I agree! VAR isnt working. Instead of one persons on field decision it's now another persons decision based 100's of miles away. Let the referee on the field of play make the decision - 9 times out of 10 itll be the right one.

The goal was not offside and the idiot in var room should be sacked, but it if there was no VAR it would still have been offside because the linesman flagged. The fact the liner got it wrong shows why we need VAR, but then get people competent enough to get it right. Jota would also have been sent off because ref booked him twice. Decent VAR should have been able to inform ref first booking was not a foul, but they can’t.

Why we haven't gone with the one from the world cup I will never know. Thought that worked brilliantly, much quicker and more accurate.

yes, it was a red. Why did his foot roll over the ball? Because it was raised high enough to do so.
Oh what a surprise, captain 'I'm always right, even though I'm not' pipes up.

His foot rolled over the ball because the ball is round. It's not a red, the pundits acknowledged that and from what I've read on the Web a lot agree with me.

Your beloved Spurs got very lucky today.

and your beloved Liverpool didn't. Tough shit.

Not like Klopp to complain when things don't go his way is it? Always smiling when things are going well and full of praise for opponents after he has beaten them. The worst loser in the PL.
Klopp actually came across well in his interview. Said it how most see it as shocking then joked he can't say what he wants because his bank balance will go down.

What would you like him to say? Well done Spurs and VAR?

Comedian you🤣

Ah diddums, poor little scouse lover upset that your team got a bad decision. Boo hoo.

Was never a red on Jones for me, what happened to the concept of intent?, it's football there's going to be times where studs make contact with players, his foot carried up off the ball, he had no intention to hurt the opponent.

Since when was "but he could have hurt him" a reason for red cards, it's football, not ballet.

VAR needs to go. Goal line decisions yes. The game was fine without the rest of it. Seeing players and fans wait minutes to see if a goal is allowed in utterly painful.

If they keep it then it needs to be more generic. Offside for goals is only awarded if there is daylight between the attacking player and the defender.

As for the handball rule/ Nobody in the world seems to have a clue. Used to be if it was deliberate. It worked. Now it's a ruddy lottery.

I've written entire blogs mocking Jurgen's whining but in this instance I thought he spoke a lot of sense. I liked his line on 'don't ask angry, upset managers what to do - sit down objectively and look at it'

For me, burnnazzer makes the most valid point in this particular incident. The linesman flagged for offside, so without VAR it still wouldn't have been a goal and would just have been the subject of debate on social media and shows like MOTD. And of course, it's an obvious certainty that when it comes to offside it pretty much gets everything correct as opposed to if there was no VAR then there would be far more human errors. This incident was a bad case of human error, not a bad case of VAR.

They need a team review system like cricket, tennis, nfl etc. The on field decision stands and it’s up to the manager to review if they don’t like it. Maybe get one review per half per team.

So it's come out that the reason it was human error is that the guys in the VAR box thought that the on field decision was a goal, so they checked it and said that the on field decision was correct as there was no offside. It was only when spurs took the free kick for off side that the guys in the VAR box realised that the on field decision was off side and by that point it was too late to overturn. This could easily be solved by having the ref tell the VAR box the on field decision like they do in rugby.

Personally I don’t like it, football like any sport is not a game of perfect.

I feel for the fans who have to wait 5 minutes to celebrate a goal or not as the case may be.

“Acknowledge the error”

Yeh ok, so that means they’ll contact them and say “Errm… soz. Get in contact if you want.”
Football is corrupted by bribes and betting scandals, they just haven’t gathered enough evidence against it yet.
You just have to rewatch our games in the championship - and even in the premier league, to see that this is the case. It’s all about who can give the match officials the most money.
It would be naive not to Believe this.

So you want players to play the game without their feet leaving the ground.
By your policy nobody can kick the ball when anybody is close by.
You fully understand the point I was making. Like it or not he went over the ball and it was a potentially leg breaking tackle. Unfortunate or not, it was a red card.
