Very confident after today

Exactly as expected, Swansea had lots of possession, as they do against every team. I thought tactics were spot on, although the last 10 of the first half we sat too deep.

Second half was very good. Anyone can miss a penalty, but thought Jerry played really well. I enjoyed Lavery’s tenacity.

My one disappointment today was Josh Bowler. He stood out as the player who appeared not to be giving it a full go. Very weak off the ball. Why he didn’t square it to Jerry I don’t know, it was selfish. They scored from the same position, it’s fine lines at this level.

Clown fans moaning about everything after 5 minutes. We really do have more than our fair share who really don’t get football. They have always blown with the wind.

I thought we played very well and I’m very confident with the players we have. We do need a couple more, but we also have good players coming back.

Some want MA to fail and will not give him a chance. He’s inherited much of this squad and he’s given players a chance e.g. Virtue. He’s quickly getting to those who can & can’t cut it.

Fine lines, we deserved to win the game. It’s a long season and tonight we could be sitting in the top 6. Let’s get behind the manager and team.

Absolutely spot on

My concern is that Appleton seems to want to rigidly stick with his 3 up front formation. Today when chasing the game he'd rather take Bowler off, who seems to play more "inside" than "outside" and therefore not get the best out of, and replace him with CJ who in the c15 minutes on the pitch had zero touches or at best zero contribution.

If I were Bowler or his agent, I'd be making a move away as quickly as possible.

I think we're in real trouble despite the early stage of the season.

Have to disagree with a fair bit of this, yeah we knew we would see a limited amount of the ball but first half was attracious at times, Christ knows how many passes we completed as it weren’t many. Obviously let them have the ball and they did little the majority of the time but still they should have been at least 1 up by half time.

2nd half we were superb for 10 mins with lavery making a huge difference and the team appeared to press and Harry more knowing him and Jerry would continue further up the field. I love Jerry and he performed really well apart from the appalling penalty, but let’s be fair Dougall dived for it. Bowler should of passed the ball across and Harry would of have a tap in so potentially yeah we maybe should have won the game with those two moments however Grimshaw also made an astonishing save early on in the second half when it was deflected.

On the whole I’d go as far as saying a very mediocre performance and have to admit I’m worried for the remainder of the season.

Grammy, big ek and Thompson were my stand outs with mentions for Yates, Lavery and although did misplace a lot of passes fiorini could be interesting

Looked like bowler was shot to shit after him massive error in not squaring for Yates. Appeared it got to him big time

Nope it was Appletons fault we missed it, his fault JB didn't square it and I bet he turned up the heating on the UK for today as well the bastard.

The people who never give him a chance won't look at themselves for their role in the negativity. 🙄

Bloke on FB said I'm willing to give him time but am losing patience (after 3 games). So which is it?

Bowler was hauled off due to his lack of a team focus. Failed to work off the ball and then his greed. Great player, love him to stay, but his mind wasn’t where it should have been today. If he wants away then it’s best for all concerned.

I agree in part.
Lavery played like he wanted a move, Bowler played like he'd just bought a new house in Lytham.
As Jerry's pseudo Dad I'd expect nothing more than a 9 out of 10 from you.
20's will probably have given Bowler 11.
I disagree about the first half. I can't really remember a single instance when we pressed them hard. I'm all for a midfield of 2 "attacking" players but the Carey/Fiorini combo is too powderpuff. The change at HT bringing Lavery, the Duracel bunny, on lifted the whole dynamic of the team and we did OK.
I don't understand why that wasn't the instruction from the start.
Going back to when Quitch was appointed he was desperate for us to be a 4-3-3 team. I seem to remember it was about 10 games in and only one win before the might of the messageboard persuaded him that the standard we are at meant we were a 4-4-2 team. Leave 4-3-3 to the Scousers and Citeh.
We are still desperately short of a wise head in mid-field and an unobtainable striker.
After 3 games, and 3 weeks until the transfer window closes, the season is far from over but it's also hard to be over optimistic.

Ig you want to keep having a dig at me, I'll rip it back at you twice as bad.

As I've said elsewhere, Bowler had a shocker. Terrible decision making. But two points. First, as to your o/p he's always been soft and seemingly unwilling to put a tackle in. Very noticeable today. And I'm not trying to defend him because you couldn't today but he could have walked off the pitch having scored a hattrick - certainly two in the second half. If he did he'd have been the mom but he didn't, he had a shocker.

Just one thing about today which hasn't been mentioned.

Has there ever been a more passive linesman than the idiot running the West line?

Just wouldn't make a decision even when it was right in front of him, including one where the ball was a yard over the line and he allowed play to continue.

Unbelievably bad.

It looked planned to me, the first half, albeit we took it to extremes and MA has said as much. Swansea are predictable and once you’ve snuffed out their Plan A, they don’t have much more. Today they got very lucky second half.

I think Jerry merited a 7 for his link play, which was high quality. He never looked confident with the penalty, but it can happen. He may have scored had Josh squared the ball. With a winning goal he’d have got a 9 from me.

Son of TT shared my view of the match, which is actually quite rare. Both disappointed on the drive back, but lots of positive signs that we’ll be ok. I’m sure MA is settling on his best 11, well those fit. We do have quality and we can go up a few gears. Result aside, I enjoyed today more than the bore fest of Critchley’s style.

4 players of quality needed

I wasn’t so convinced with the first half performance - I think we looked a bit devoid of a game plan at times and gave Swansea far too much time and space to pick out passes. A more clinical team puts 2/3 past us and the games over before even giving ourselves a chance. I don’t begrudge anyone who moaned in the first half and I think the boos at half time were pretty much justified.

The second half however was quite the transformation and if we play like that we’ll be absolutely fine this season. Their goal was against the run of play and we were the only team that looked like winning the game in the second half. Plenty of positives but football can sucker punch you at times and that’s what happened.

Gutting result, but the second half performance was phenomenal.

Think if we get just one win the confidence will shoot up.
What was the result against Reading?

Won that then lost 3 on the bounce nothing to do with confidence other than confidence in the system your playing.

Haven't scored in 350 minutes.
Hopefully an end product will install confidence

it's always to do with confidence.

There were a lot of positives from that performance, the negative being the lack of a goal. I would suggest, as above, once a goal is scored it will give the team confidence, a big part of the game.

It will come, and then this board will be cheering from the rafters again.

First half could have been better. 2nd half was fab. Just lacking confidence in the final third. One goal from any of the strikers would raise their confidence massively I think
