VAR certainly would, but live in the ground, not after watching in slow-mo as you suggested, it never occurred to me or most of us that it wasn’t a goal, it was clear as day. We’ve all done that quick look at the lino before celebrating, but that wasn’t the case here. What’s worse is, it wasn’t disallowed until a good 20-30 seconds later; as I said elsewhere, it’s hard not to feel like they were searching for a reason to disallow it.At the time of the incident, I’d agree. But after watching it back a few times, it’s not unreasonable to understand the decision. VAR would have clearly shown what actually happened.
Coupled with the goalkeeper who, if you concede wasn’t making a genuine attempt to win the ball, HAS to be a red according to the laws, then tripled with Steve Fletcher inexplicably booked for kicking a player in the back of the leg after the ball is gone and getting a yellow on Wednesday before scoring the winner, you can understand Critchley losing his cool.
