Despite Galloway's worst efforts - and, of course, the AVFTT pundits' absolute certainty of a Tory victory - Kim Leadbeater has been returned as the Labour MP for Batley & Spen.
“Doesn’t rely on the death of her sister as her only contribution to the constituency”. What on earth does that mean?As I said in the Batley & Spen discussion, The problem is Politics has become nasty, very divisive and no side is blame-free. This site is a microcosm of that, with hardened attitudes and dismissive stances towards those who disagree with their points of view. People like George Galloway with his holier than thou attitude and stirring up of certain sections of the community, which worked in Bradford for one term, add nothing of any substance only division to any debate.
Well done Kim Leadbetter. I just hope she is her own person and doesn't rely on the death of her sister as her one and only contribution to the constituency.
There was no basis for one. The margin wasn't close enough. It'll be interesting to know why a recount was refused - has the returning officer deemed the request unreasonable?
That last sentence comes across as very crass to say the least, poor form.As I said in the Batley & Spen discussion, The problem is Politics has become nasty, very divisive and no side is blame-free. Finding the Left nipple position already occupied, then finding himself blocked by the incumbent Right nipple he’s moved to the centre ground but is having a fight on his hands with the Belly Button - I think!Where's Scaremonger when you need his measured view?
Will his Tory Party paymasters put their hand in their pocket for his Court Challenge though? The best thing about this is that Galloway has achieved the opposite result from that he intended. He may be the most poisonous people in British politics as well as one of the biggest fools.
Tory party / Russian moneyWill his Tory Party paymasters put their hand in their pocket for his Court Challenge though?
Thought legally it was within 1% unless deemed unreasonable. There was no basis for one. The margin wasn't close enough.
Fuck me, that last sentence is a nasty underhand shot.As I said in the Batley & Spen discussion, The problem is Politics has become nasty, very divisive and no side is blame-free. John Sweeney describes him slightly differently.*Galloway is pond scum.
Or back your own comments up instead of blaming those nasty lefties for being horrid. It seems I am persona non grata on this side of the board, when genuine comments are classed as nasty, underhand and throw whatever else you want into that theme. I will suggest the site is renamed the left wing cabal, or here be leftie dragons, enter all ye who will at their own risk. It appears to me that because I'm not part of the left wing, my posts are deliberately misunderstood and twisted to make them sound wicked. Anyway as there seems to be little in the way of genuine interlocution on this side of the board, I'll leave you all to it and stick to football.
Is that one of those articulate replies you talk about.Finding the Left nipple position already occupied, then finding himself blocked by the incumbent Right nipple he’s moved to the centre ground but is having a fight on his hands with the Belly Button - I think!
Right ok, wasn’t going to bother but just to keep my fan base happy here goes.Where's Scaremonger when you need his measured view?
Clearly a Bond reference. Is that one of those articulate replies you talk about.
I think we've established its not the left using Hitler comparisons todayRight ok, wasn’t going to bother but just to keep my fan base happy here goes.
1) The whole debacle has been a disgrace to British politics
2) The fact no party has really defended the teacher and his family that are in hiding due to what can only described as an absolute disgrace in a free society
3) Labour we’re lucky for a couple of reasons, Matt Hancock being a total ** and George Galloway popping up to stir the pot.
4) The greens party decision to withdraw has been somewhat overshadowed and any other time would of been pulled up for rank hypocrisy.
5) The fact that nobody seems to want to talk about the Elephant in the room is still part of the problem we have in this country
6) The fact that nobody seem to get too upset that Kim Leadbetter was hounded out of town by Right wing extremists live on camera after what happened to her sister once again speaks volumes.
Lastly and I mean lastly on this subject, best of luck Kim Leadbetter as god knows she’s going to need it if she wants to peddle identity politics in that constituency. Now for all the Rabid Leftwaffle that feel the need to call me all the names under the sun and liken me to Hitler fill your boots.
Well it can only be Labour supporters.Galloway with 8000 votes. Who the fuck votes for this man?
I'm pretty pleased about this and a little surprised.
His campaign was aimed at extreme Muslims involving Palestine and Kashmir, plus LGBT issues.Well it can only be Labour supporters.
You know the Corbyn type Commies.
But yes a good win for Labour as few ‘experts’ predicted it.
I’d say that was a pretty reasonable response well made ScaraRight ok, wasn’t going to bother but just to keep my fan base happy here goes.

'The three most prominent hat-wearing guys in public life are George Galloway, weirdo anatomist Gunther von Hagens, and that rapist who used to own Blackpool football club. Sorry, but case closed. Hang on, Bono once sued a former U2 stylist all the way to the high court for the return of a hat – though of course, there’s nothing there to make one reopen the case files either.'Our ex owner gets a little mention in the Grauniad piece.
George Galloway doesn't 'sow division'. He sprays it everywhere | Marina Hyde
Batley and Spen’s voters have rejected him, after a byelection campaign so toxic you’d need a hazmat suit just to read about it, says Guardian columnist Marina Hydewww.theguardian.com

Excellent workThere’s a great line in there about Galloway -
“Each time he turns up, it’s as if he’s answered some invisible ** signal. “
Galloway is indefatigableGalloway is pond scum.
No need to go off in a fit of pique. I too considered your final sentence very crass. Nevertheless, the rest of your post had merit. And no, I'm not trying to patroniseIt seems I am persona non grata on this side of the board, when genuine comments are classed as nasty, underhand and throw whatever else you want into that theme. Go on, prove the laughing ?you cant.I think we've established its not the left using Hitler comparisons today
Galloway took 8000 votes off Labour, not the Tories, so I'm not sure how it's helped them.
How you have the nerve to mention Kim's hounding is breath taking, given that you were laughing at it.
To be fair he only needs to bump your op on the thread in question.Go on, prove the laughing ?you cant.
That's not very nice! Or did you intend there to be an apostrophe in there?Go on, prove the laughing ?you cant.
Strange one TSSeasider. On this occasion I think you've called it wrong. They held the seat with a majority of 300, from 3000. A win is a win though. It's not intended to be an insult but Kim Leadbetter is always introduced as "sister of murdered MP, Jo Cox" she's been picked precisely because of that and she's won, do the strategists will be delighted.
Galloway standing and polling as well as he has could be the first step for the Muslim community to move away from Labour. Labour lost loads of views to the Brexit Party, then they went to the Tories. He might be that stepping stone to a different party (he might not).
The Tories should actually be reasonably pleased to get so close in that constituency. They are incumbents and looking well in some very awkward constituencies. It also means Keir Steamer stays as leader, which will mean the left will keep eating themselves rather than being an effective opposition.
At least the constituents aren't going to be insulted on Twitter as they gave the 'right' result.
The seat was Tory from 83 to 97.Strange one TSSeasider. On this occasion I think you called it wrong.
Kim Leadbeater decided, herself, to stand and I think Labour would have been very callous to have denied her the opportunity. Besides, she is local and the importation of a non-local candidate might well have killed Labour here.
I don't think the Muslim community will move away from Labour. Galloway has trawled his - intellectually credible but practically vindictive - anti-Israeli schtick around Britain's Parliamentary constituencies for years. Here, he was trying to get rid of Starmer by using local Asians. Even then, his only reason was to big-up himself. The man's all ego and media-whore. The Muslim women were right to condemn the violence and I can see their men who fell for Galloway, returning to the fold.
The Tories put in a reasonable showing but then it never had been a die-hard Labour seat. Fairly solid Labour but with a fair Tory following. I don't see the Conservative vote growing any further here. In a GE I can only see a growth in the Labour vote.
As for Sir Keir, yes, he remains as Labour leader. I am currently ambivalent but I do believe that whilst the momentum seems to be with Johnson, it will be his advantage to lose. I can see that happening.
My clumsy wording. I meant that it is a typically Labour seat that can swing Tory occasionally. That's what I should have put.The seat was Tory from 83 to 97.
I'm in the next constituency, literally 100 yards away from the border. We were a rock solid Labour seat under Ed Balls until Andrea Jenkyns got in on a hard right, Brexit ticket and has retained the seat in two subsequent elections. Until recently there were BNP councillors playing on anti Muslim sentiment.Strange one TSSeasider. On this occasion I think you've called it wrong.
