Wembley Traffic Chaos

Anyone else get caught up in this? What should have been a 40 minute journey turned into a three hour nightmare. In the end we had to abandon our pre booked parking and use someone's driveway getting in the stadium at 2.55pm.

It made us feel a bit better that we saw the Lincoln team coach similarly stuck at 2.10pm.

I was told there had been a serious collision and roads were closed which may mean bad news for someone and puts sport into perspectivce

We got there about 12:30 so wasn’t really a major problem other than the chaos of trying to find the car park we had pre booked, but coming away after the game was horrendous and was stuck in the car park for 1 1/2 hours and then was bumper to bumper until we reached the M40.

Started another thread on this last night..... apparently it was because someone was killed in an accident in the underpass where we all joined the North Circular 🥲

There was a fatal accident on the north circular late morning. It got shut for hours. Helicopter ambulance landed on the road. Got to say it was pretty impressive flying given the built up area and the narrowness of the road.

Took us 75 mins to do 3 miles. In the end we gave up trying to get to the pink car park and went to the red. Was happy to pay 30 again but they let me in on the pink ticket for no extra.

The traffic was compounded by event road closures which they do for every Wembley match and a single lane set of temporary lights near Wembley Park in which hardly any cars could get passed cos the lane coming to Wembury struggled to clear causing issues right back to the north circular. Got stuck in them for another 40 mins after the game...

A complete mess.

And all the time, every road looked like a downmarket Central Drive yet I could imagine the guy on homes under the hammer talking about a run down studio flat being a bargain at half a million.

Sad for those killed in the accident, I wouldn’t want to have to put up with that traffic. It’s bad enough round here having to wait 2 cycles to get through some traffic lights at peak times.

It took me longer to do 3 miles yesterday than I have taken driving to work in the last 14 months (I mostly work from home)

Got stuck in the road closure for 2.5 hours! Got in the ground at 330, frustrating but obviously a very serious crash where one died and another in hospital.

Really sad to hear that the accident had resulted in a fatality.
There was also issues on the Amersham Tube into Wembley which probably affected some.
I had decided earlier in the week to drive to Beaconsfield, Park Up at the Railway Station then take the train direct into Wembley Stadium which I did though my satnav sent me all over the place on the last bit of the journey down and the wrong way at first on my trip home.
Stayed in for the presentation and the early celebrations then high tailed to the Station to catch the 5 24 back to Beaconsfield.( being in red zone meant a shorter walk)
As I was on my way there saw the police dashing away from the station and immediately thought fan trouble but then I saw someone on the ground with someone being frantically resuscitated with chest thumping ,not sure that’s the right word but you could see it was definitely serious.I really Hope they were successful.

was back in Cheadle Hulme by just gone 9....181 miles( included the unintended detour thanks to Miss Satnav) in 3 hours 5 minutes....thought I did well but there were still plenty of Pool who passed me.

Bumped into Jayne and Lee at Beaconsfield and said a quick hello😉Think Lee was busy planning his videoing and trying to work out his mask😷

Coach i was on just managed to get through before a number of bikers jumped in the road to block oncoming traffic ,so the helicopter could land ,the paramedics already in situ were already doing cpr on 1 of the injured, hope the other survives

I had toyed with parking at Wembley but was worried about the traffic. In the end took the advice given on here by one of the London lot to park at Dollis Hill which was ideal. Free parking on the street just outside tube station and 4 minute tube to Wembley. Back in Macc at just after 9.15 pm and that was with a half hour stop at Rugby services.

We got caught in it post match.

I'm sure there was a way out of pink parking but we went for a beer to see if it would clear, but still caught it.

Got home at midnight.

The place really is a shit hole.
we turned right out of car park took about 25 minutes to get to the a40 but if we had followed in car sat nav would of taken hours

why build in such a built up area.
i always said te new stadium should of been moved to open space north of london close to motorway with massive parking areas. like disney world but we CANT plan

friends of ours missed our first goal due to being stuck in traffic. We left Uxbridge af 13:20 and getting thru Wembley was painful and the coach driver pulled up into a bus stop just on the main road down from the Green Man. Must have been about 14:50 when we got to our seats.:Again coach didn't leave pink parking till 18:15 and we were still caught up in horrendous traffic. Got home at 23:30 tired but deliriously happy.

That's what I did. Sounds like I touched lucky as I watched all the post-match celebrations and was away from the pink car park at 17:25 and home for 9pm, even with a 15 min stop at Warwick Services.

I parked in the red car park but arrived at 10.15 , so missed it all , stayed in Premier Inn. Wembley Stadium just 3 mins away , only paid £10 from 10.15 am Sunday to 7.30 this morning as Prem Inn validate the ticket ! No trouble drive back this morning till I reached Leyland, but another brilliant experience that this club keeps giving 🍊😀

I was supposed to be in the pink car park but gave up and drove to Stanmore.

Luckily we arrived as they kicked off but I presume there were others not so lucky!

Does anyone know if a refunds available?

Sad news, was pretty odd to come round the corner and see a helicopter there, mind you, I have seen those guys in action before and can't believe where they can put one down. RIP the guy who died, I hope the other recovers.

Pink park, left about 5.25, fairly quick out, north circular to hangar lane, A40, M40, M25 to M1 as was booked in Newport Pagnell for the night. Minor inconvenience compared to someone's life.

Really dozy place to put the national stadium, though. Suppose have always managed public transport before, just didn't work on a BH weekend.

Our two coaches came in on the M1
Tom Smith from Blackpool Police kindly called me to make me aware of the closure of a carriageway on the North Circular.

We just got through to Wembley pink car park for 12.15, on time but we cancelled a planed last stop at Toddington.

We went back on the M40 and worked with the coach drivers to take a back route out.
A short stop on the M40 Services and a driver change over at the services on the M6 Toll.

We got back to the Thatched House at 10.52 for a couple of quick pints and was in bed for 11.45pm

A long day saying I was up at 4.40an, but a very memorable one.

No problem on train from Brum via Warwick.
Surprised very few took the option to Warwick Parkway ( Junction 15 on M40 to station park and ride) and let the train do the strain to Wembley Stadium station.
Less than £30 return without a rail card. Regular direct comfortable trains. Save on fuel and parking and have that extra drink. No brainer.

Made the right turn out of the car park myself, I was going to turn left like my sat Nav advised but the car park attendants wouldn't let me and forced me to to turn right. I'm glad they did as I was home for just after 8.30.

We had an absolute nightmare like many others. Naively I thought that the low crowd would mean parking near the ground would be easy. I paid the £30 for the Pink Car Park. We set off from Blackpool at 6am and got to our hotel in Watford at 10:15. We then set off for Wembley at 12, and the satnav gave an ETA of 12:30. However we got stuck in all that traffic, then the pink car park road was closed and we got sent all over the place. Stewards and local police were not helpful (I can understand this they were dealing with a major incident). Eventually drove into someone's drive and pleaded with them to et us park there. A lovely woman kindly let us do that for free, and we walked the mile to the ground, getting in at 2:55. We bought the lady a bunch of flowers on our way back to say thanks

Took us 19 minutes to get back to our hotel after the game

Another nightmare then yesterday getting back. I've never seen a 21 mile stretch of roadworks before (with a grand total of no-one working on them). Our transport system is almost third world level.

All worth it in the end though. Would I do it again.....You bet

Ashley, just want to say a big thank you for the Coach organisation.
Good talk about 'No booze' on the coach.
I think that rule was broken before we reached the M6. 😉
Thanks also for keeping me in touch with MrsDP. 👍

Went the night before stayed at Ibis Wembley. Found a place to leave the car on Just Park app, 2 minutes from hotel.
Half an hour to get to M1, stopped twice on way home, walked in at 10pm.
Fabulous 2 days, but could have had 2 weeks in Portugal for what I spent.
Worth every penny.

Same here. It was the only place I could get near. Was getting near a point where I'd have happily paid 500 quid just to abandon the car and leave it for someone to tow away.

Like others thought it wouldn't be a problem to drive up to the ground apart from the usual local traffic. And wouldn't have been if not for the RTA. Took me six attempts at finding different routes in before I found a way through but made it work in the end.
I'd certainly have paid the extra £30 to park in the red having booked the pink car park. Possibly the most stressful hour of my life since, err, trying to use ticketmaster to buy the Wembley ticket Monday last week.

I copped for a congestion charge as I was already in the area and approached from the south. I didn't know about the fatal crash until after the game which put some perspective on the day but could tell something was amiss. At the time just tried to focus on it being a privilege to actually be at (or near) Wembley as the alternative was to sack it off and drive away in a rage. But was determined to not be beaten and to see something of the season in person. In a way it added to the day and summed the year up. Bad start, a calmer middle bit and a great ending.

When I finally got to my digs on Sunday night the first four ciders disappeared like water down a drain.
