What pleased me today, apart from the performance ............

Still the worst player on the pitch after his cross early on as he was at Bristol after his goal.
Then to have him to take care of the best forward in the league is just criminal.

Until defensive duties are removed from him it will be 10 vs 12 he is that pityful atm.

Was that CJ wasn’t the one to miss the sitter or score the own goal because if he had he would have been hung, drawn and quartered on here.
Rhodes is having a really bad run, summed up by that terrible attempt today.

He's a good finisher and contributes in a lot of games but he's very slow and when he's not at it he doesn't add much.

The pressing takes a hit and you see the difference when lavery is on with Joseph.

He just needs a goal and you can't ask for a much better chance.

Strikers always say they're not that worried unless they're not getting chances so fingers crossed.

Critchley’s faith in CJ is absolute and frankly a little bizarre
Nearly as bizarre as his lack of faith in Lyons
I just don’t get it with Lyon’s. He’s ruining the lad. Lyon’s was superb when he first came and I’m sure given a few games running he’d be back to that level. An odd appearance here n there puts pressures on him to step in and be great or get dropped again.

CJ will never be a wingback. He tries and contributes going forward but cannot defend. A wingback first and foremost needs to be a full back who can attack. It cannot be a winger who is taught to defend. We are very exposed out wide when we lose the ball.

Overall I thought we played very well in large parts today. One of those days I’m afraid with many missed chances.

How was he to blame for anything today? I really don't get the vitriol.

So you didn't notice his pathetic attempts at defending yet again and especially not even giving May a nudge for their goal.

He is stealing a living being played at wing-back when he simply can't defend to save his life.

He shouldn’t be playing wing back. But that’s not his fault he’s being played out of position now is it ???
I know that and I have constantly criticized Critchley for wasting him there and the only way to get the best out of him is to remove all defensive duties off him.

May was nowhere near scoring. The ball was going towards the 6 yard line at best before Ekpiteta intervened.

Watch CJ before he hits it into the area and what you will see is CJ doing what he constantly does when defending and it's nothing because he can't do the basics of defending.
He does it every game and just getting close to their man or waving his leg to stop a cross is simply not good enough.

Perhaps it's just me, but does the closing line of the above post not strike some as being a tad contradictory?

What he is generally good at is using his pace, getting back and closing someone down, not many beat him, he just doesn't have the defensive instinct, which is understandable.

Lyon's is Lyons

yes the o/p is right if it had been CJ missing that he would have got pelters and rightly so. Just as Rhodes is. As others have said he was still the worst player on the pitch for us. Thought it would be a certainty that he'd be subbed for GabrieL but no Critch moved him to the left where he still did nowt.

All that said, for 70 minutes we played really well, played at a good tempo and were very unfortunate not to be at least 3 up by half time. But once they'd got a lucky equaliser their belief grew and their counter attacks became much more of a threat and for me they looked the more dangerous for those last 10-15 minutes. Frustratingly two points dropped on most teams above us making our task harder but if we can play like that then i think we'll generally win games.

Three mentions of players. Casey was once again excellent as was Marv apart from the own goal. And Morgan is really growing into his role and he covers so much of the pitch.

Other positives. Joseph’s fitness now means we are seeing the player that Critch hoped he was getting. He will be our star man next season.
Likewise, Dembele looks fit finally. I’ve never seen him track down and press so much as he did yesterday.

Yesterday was an awesome performance. My mate as a neutral (Blade fan) couldn’t believe we had so many chances cleared off the line or scuffed. If we keep that up then this will be a very good team. Poor luck or finishing - we deserved 3 points and that’s one game we deserve back (play crap and get 3 points).

This team / squad was awful last season. It’s now positive and looking like a a cut above. We might be a little late in the revival but it has been a turnaround all the same.

Casey deflected the ball slightly causing Ekpiteta to score. I'm not convinced by him, to be honest. Think Pennington is better.

Agree on Morgan. Marv is still prone to a dodgy pass or two.
