Whats happened to CJ?

This is normal CJ, 1 game in 8 where he’s unplayable to make up for the other 7
You are too generous and the lad is being damaged badly by Critchley who appears to have backed himself into a corner by not dropping him weeks ago,
In every game, he has not started we look a better team with actual wing-backs but Critchley for some reason wont do it in a league game.

I don't think anythings happened to him has it. This is how he has always been although granted looks far more exposed as a wing back rather than a winger.
He should play as one of the our wide forwards or not at all and given we have Joseph and Dembele it's more an impact player he should be used as or as cover for injury or resting one of them.

Scandalous he stayed on the pitch today ahead of Gabriel. Absolute waste of space 🤬

CJ is just about the most frustrating player we have. He can be brilliant and shite in the same move. Sometimes he beats the defender and then falls over his own feet. It's sheer comedy. Also I agree Rhodes seems to have run out of goals at the moment. Maybe a spell on the bench might be in order.
To be fair, we should have been 3 or 4 goals to the good by the time they ragged their equaliser.

He’s like a statue stood in the wing
That's when he can be really frustrating, you want him on the shoulder of the last man and for someone to play the ball over or through to him.

Run at them and get the line and cross or shoot.

Maybe he's just not in great form, which given what we've seen from Rhodes, can happen to anyone.

Needs to do the basics a bit more.

Was way off but a good run 1st half we nearly scored from. Some horrific touches and anonymous 2nd half. Provided zero outlet, didn’t look interested until he thought his number was going up to get subbed off.

His agent deserves a medal for that 2.5 year deal.

The lad is wasted atm and that's down to Critchley and I genuinely think his persistence with him at wing-back may damage him long-term.

He's an asset if used right and on form and he did score a great goal the other week.

But some of his play is ridiculous at times, the poor or non touches.

It doesn't help him not being in his most useful position, but when he's at it he's hard to stop, when he's not at it it can be comically bad.

Technically he is not gifted but it's being exposed to the point of comedy at times.

'His agent deserves a medal for that 2.5 year deal.' Really? I was thinking more along the lines of: 'Should be banished from the confines of this kingdom for time immemorial'.

He’s a great lad, loves the club/fans, he does his best and at times as somebody else has posted is unplayable. Definitely worth keeping in the team. Where he plays is up to Critchley.

Far be it from me to act in an advisory capacity to such an able scribe, but do you not think, because of the depths his standard of performance has now plummeted to, '[his game] is being exposed to the point of BLACK comedy at times.' And yes, I personally think that really is a true measure of the extent of the decline in his game.

When people question what it is that Connolly must hold over Critchley to ensure his continuing selection in the side, I shudder to think of what it is that CJ must be blackmailing him with ...

I really don’t get this ganging up on CJ. We know exactly what he can do and what he can’t. The manager doesn’t use him to the maximum and that includes not playing him sometime. But the lad gives 100% every game and tries his tripe out.

If only we had a recently departed player who cared half that.

CJ didn’t cost 2 points today.

He needs to get back at it, he's had a few moments since signing but overall hasn't reached some of the early season form again yet.
'... he's had a few moments since signing ...' A few moments? As a regular starter for the 1st team, should we not be looking at him offering a damn sight more than that!? Every time he's selected, he's denying a fellow player the chance of offering us infinitely more than CJ could even begin to dream of doing - let alone be capable of doing!

Sorry, folks - but definitely time to get rid.

Does some good defensive work with his pace ,he’s doing ok I think you should get off his back
Correct. Regularly stops teams getting too far up the pitch purely with his pace. Some strange people on here who actually seem to love sticking the boot in when they can.... our own player ffs

Of course his greatest attributes are in the attacking 3rd and he's definitely not in his "ideal" position atm. Still got a chant today after skinning a couple of players with a decent cross. Some miserable old fuckers on here, thankfully not so much at the match!!

Apart from his occasional show of pace, as it is something of a continuing mystery to me, I would be so, so grateful if you could just give me brief outline of the other attributes you believe he 'brings to the table'.

No doubt, in your book, the solitary point we did mange to secure was all down to the strenuous efforts of a certain you-know-who. It really does make you wonder on earth how we'd manage without him ...

Well, like the cracker last week.

But he does need to up his game.

People just want to see him running at teams more often, but too often he's hugging the touchline rather than on the shoulder of the last man...Or his basic control let's him down.

He's not alone, we've a few atm who are well below par.

Forever and Razzle have already said it.

Defensively, around the penalty area, if a clearance is required you're never fully sure what's coming. But if we break down upfield and look short-handed then CJs pace has been a saver on many a time this year.

He’s a winger. Play him in his correct position or play Gabriel.
Yeap spot on.

He ain't a defender full stop, yes he can put a foot in and keep up with players but his tackles are powder puff or non existent. Rovers game towards end he totally bottled out of a challenge...but its not a one off..

I would start gabriel and bring CJ on when defences are getting tired and can utilise his pace....

If the team was picked purely on merit, where would he fit? RWB - Gabriel/Lyons are better. LWB - Lyons/Coulson are better. I like CJ but do wonder why he's picked ahead of these other, better options.
