When the new East Stand gets built…

I would sell the naming rights to the new stand , more revenue , better quality players !
Not before naming all 4. That way it's still The Armfield etc to fans. With the other 2 I know we call them the North and West but M&M are implied in there.

I can't believe that anyone is seriously saying we shouldn't honour past heroes because some of the younger generation haven't heard of them. If we are proud of them, and what they achieved with the club, then when they did should be irrelevant.

I'm also a bit perplexed as to why people would choose Ball over Ayre. He (Ball) was a fine player, but his major achievements at club level came after he left us. And as a manager he was arguably the worst we have had in my lifetime, certainly in terms of the long term damage he did (with the help of others).

I too am perplexed as to why someone would ignore winning the WC as a Blackpool player over winning the domestic c/ship with Everton (or whatever he did). Further why someone would cite his failures as a manager over a WC winners medal.

It's about achievements.

I can't believe any of our fans haven't heard of Suddick, Green or Ball for starters, with the latter a World Cup winner as a Blackpool player. When will that happen again.

What's your view on the Invincibles Stand down the road, named from 1888? 🤣
My point is that IMO Blackpool Fc has rafts of celebration of these old golden ages. Can we not celebrate more modern heroes? Like Brett for example?

Of course youngsters have heard of the old greats - it just shouldn't be limited ad infinitum.

I think probably it's the somewhat older average age group that generally post on AVFTT who come up with these old timers to have their names on everything.

PS not arsed about them down the road. To be fair they've done nothing in 130 years so they pretty much have to celebrate the game when there was only 6 teams, no posts, no rules kicking a bag full of chicken feathers around a boggy field.

There’s a special place for Ayre in the Fans Hearts and he would be a bit of a quirky option, I suppose, but I’m not convinced.

I can sort of get where you are coming from, when we talk of legends like Matthews
, Mortenson and Armfield, but I’m not sure quite how you explain the BA choice to the younger generation…

To my mind BA was about a moment in time where a manager and fans just connected through circumstance. He’ll be a legend for that generation of course, but I’m not sure that translates the same way that the others do.

I believe the stand will be called "The Joffrey Court Stand".

Joking aside it's bizarre people still want stands named after players from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Pretty much alien to anyone under 45 years old who probably make up the majority of current support.

"The Best Trip Stand - (in association with Trivago)"

"The NAPM Stand" - (in association with WONGA)"
In similar vein the Dock Stand.

More importantly as talk was to include club shop, bar etc do we think this would be for us and move away fans to South stand?

Oystons last stand, or is that the penthouse

If its got a facility for beer in it, Id call it the No CrossBar

Might I suggest The Billy Ayre Training Ground as a compromise to the, what should be Alan Ball East.
Why do we have to name anything after Billy Ayre? Surely there are plenty of other more fitting ways for us to commemorate him.

Alan Ball doesn’t have a strong enough association with our Club IMHO. And would come across as a fairly left-field option for many of our fans. He’s not held in anything like the same regard as Matthews, Morty, Armfield. Naming after Ball would be a bit Knob End-Like for me.

I’d just build the stand get people in it and wouldn’t bother with naming it at all.

We were in the wilderness for years after he was manager , it was a disaster. A world cup winners medal for someone who left straight after doesnt really make up for it.

Not 100% sure the East will need to be or should be named after one person. I’ve a feeling the club and council hope to see the new development become the focal point of the stadium and whole area and as such be the new ‘main’ stand.

I think we’ve a number of players in our past worthy of recognition. My dad says Tony Green was better than George Best and the best he ever saw in Tangerine. The fella even spent his post playing career educating kids in the town. The likes of TG, Suddick, Ayre, Joe Smith and even Brett, Charlie, Hollloway and Keith need something permanent.

I think the bars, conference rooms and suites, turnstiles etc could all be used for this.

But I think the East should not be named after one person. Then there’s always the space for one true great to come along in the future and change the club or even the game itself (Matthew’s, Morty and Sir Jim) and become true icon/legend. You’d struggle to find any players living or not at any club in any country worthy of being up there with that trio.

....and you'd struggle to find any club in any country that can boast a WC winner.

The good thing about calling it the Alan Ball Stand would be, how many clubs in this country can boast having stands named after four high profile England legends..never mind Blackpool Legends?

Alternatively I'd go for Tony Green, he's still alive and would hopefully open it?

I'd call it the Hoolahan Stand and divide into pens for visiting Nobber fans.

There’s been no announcement from the club revealing the plans yet. I’d expect the capacity when completed will be 18-20K👍
According to Wiki the current East Stand has 5,120 seats. The new stand will have 4,600 so that is a reduction in overall capacity of 520.

So total capacity will reduce from 16,616 to 16,096. (Info drawn from sources that may not be up to date and accurate)

Details revealed of investment plans for Blackpool FC’s Bloomfield Road stadium
A new 4,600 seater East Stand at Blackpool FC's Bloomfield Road stadium is due to be in place by September 2025, according to council documents.

Details published within the business case for the Revoe Sports Village which is part of Blackpool's £39m Town Deal, also show investment in new facilities at the North Stand.

The Town Deal, which secured final government approval earlier this month, includes £6.5m for the Revoe Sports Village which will be developed by Blackpool Council, Blackpool Football Club and Blackpool FC Community Trust.

The temporary East Stand is due to be replace
A timeline for development says it is hoped to have planning permission by October this year, with any outstanding sites needed for the land assembly secured by April 2024 through use of a compulsory purchase order.
The existing East Stand would be demolished in August 2024, with the new stand built by September 2025 including its own concourse.
It is also proposed to provide a new club shop, club bar and ticket office at the front of the North Stand as well as public realm to be completed by July 2025.
The scheme also includes a 139 space car park due for delivery by October 2024, and a 3G pitch for use by under 16s.

A new timber yard is also set to be provided to enable the retention of the existing business.
It is predicted the sports village project will prompt investment in the wider Revoe masterplan which includes new shops, leisure facilities and homes along Central Drive.
The business case documents anticipate "substantial indirect long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits.
"The project will also assist the development of new multi-use 3G pitches facilities on brownfield sites within the wider town centre, bring about further investment within one of Blackpool’s most deprived wards. Neither of these elements would be delivered without Town Deal support as a catalyst."

This isn't about having a local hero's name up there it's about what the Club has done/achieved. How it projects itself to the wider public- a Club that produced greatness founded on the Clubs own philosophies and not the money winners of the last 30 years.

Forget Alan Ball the manager and concentrate on the palyer who at 2pm that day swapped his tangerine shirt for the red of England and well....

Don't get me wrong I loved Billy Ayre as much as anyone else did- he's ahead of Holloway and Allan Brown for me and he should be honoured. In fact he needs to be, just not as a stand.
Spot on . . . it should then be called The Play-off Kings Stand! 😎👍

The information you have is incorrect…

1. The capacity of the East has been reduced for safety reasons.

2. The quoted figure for the proposed new stand is merely a like for like ‘estimate’ used for the purposes of securing government funding.

The detailed plans will be revealed at some point in the future, no doubt.

Ah OK. The East hasn't been anywhere near full for ages. I do though hope the new plans mean a 2,000 or more increase on what we had before the reductions. 20k would be great.

It hasn’t been full, but the useable ‘licenced’ capacity has changed 👍

I’ve got no idea what the new plans will be… I doubt the owner even knows exactly what the plans are at this stage… Hopefully we’ll be somewhere in the 18-20K area.

Lets take a leaf out of Crewes book, lets call it after Blackpools most famous export, I vote for the Blackpool rock stand

So we should name it the Alan Ball east stand after a person who was solely responsible for leading the club into division4 for the first time in its history and nearly financially ruining it?. World cup winner or not, that spell as manager still leaves a bitter taste, Billy Ayre East stand for me.
And a player that had no regard for anything other than his own career and bank balance - truly the worst football manager in history and selfish bratt
- if he took us down from Div 3 by his superb management skills, his abdication to Everton straight after the World Cup effectively relegated us from Div 1

Not a fan sorry

Can we have 'Big Fat Boo' painted on the seats so that when all the away fans get up and leave (especially the Nobbers) it'll give us all a laugh!

Not yet as too early but one day I’d like to see a painting or statue of Charlie Adam with his arms aloft at Wembley.
I know it was the vermin era but he gave us all a true moment of joy and under any other owners a transfer fee plus moments of brilliance that needs to be recognised.
He also stuck it to that barcode toothed fecker too

No I think the stand should be named in honor to all the fans who boycotted the club, for the next generation of supporters to remember the dark year's and the struggle in getting the club back,, no need for a name.,Just a date on the stand "2019 " the day the fans got the club back
the heavy loads stand
