From what I've seen so far I'd say we're about 4 players short of a squad that can compete for those top two places but certainly top six is within our grasp.

We've certainly signed some good players, have a better team than last season, have addressed some deficiencies and are well prepared for the start.

I have question marks over the defence, and maybe a lack of leadership on the pitch. There are also a lot of new players to get used to each other in a very different style, and a very inexperienced manager (who I think will be good, but that's just a gut feel).

I think we'll be around 8th this season. But a significantly improved points total, and another summer next year of clearing out some of the higher earners that we couldn't sell this time, to allow Critchley more room to bring his own players in and fully adopt his new system.
Not being pessimistic, just I think we're going to have to be patient to see the clubs strategy bear fruit. When it eventually does, I don't think we'll need the play offs.

We’ll challenge for play offs no doubt. Only problem is there’s about 12 teams who will also be challenging - so it’s tough to call. Play offs are going to be extremely tight again this season.

Just look at Hamilton going past Championship players with ease. We are going to score more than the opposition in league one and concede a few along the way.

champions.

One Swallow a Summer doth not make, but I was disappointed at what I saw on iFollow at Stoke. I had heard tales of playing out from the back, but I saw hoofball ( At a 5’9” CF). I had heard tales of intricate passing paving a route to goal, and other tales of derring-do, but I saw team seemingly incapable of the simplest pass to a colleague. It’s a long season, and at least they didn’t concede.....but might have a time or two except for Maxwell’s heroics. On the hard evidence of Stoke.......12th.

Based off our pre-season you'd say at least top 10 if not better. If we ship out Garrity, Devitt and Howe, and bring in some quality at LB, RB, CB and CF I'd say play-offs is guaranteed.

As a minimum we have to improve on last year both in terms of style of play, think that's a given and league position.
I think there are plenty of goals in the team but Yates has to convince me he's can get upwards of fifteen goals or so, Think there's some big tests for our defence coming up and this could be the key. Can we win games 1-0?

I think this is the crux of the matter. I don't think we are currently capable of grinding out a 1-0 if we're not playing well. And you need to be able to do that, because we won't play well in every game. But I don't think the strategy we have as a club is designed to yield instant results necessarily, its more longer term than that, so I'm not worried. We have made significant progress this summer.

All that said, I sincerely hope some on here are right and we go up as champions!

I would be reluctant to cast a vote until we see what happens the next two weeks - think we might have a few additions to push us a bit higher up that league table yet.

I just have a horrible feeling this will be our year and we won’t be there in May to see it as we’ll still be banned from attending games!

Perhaps a year of consolidation with NC adjusting to a Head Coach position in
League 1.
Wish him all the best, but there won't be the safety net of a club with the structure of Liverpool to nurture him.
I see us finishing upper mid-table, 9th. at best, a few players short of a squad capable of challenging for honours.
Hope I'm wrong; I'm not the greatest pundit, but, there again, I've learned to temper any enthusiasm I have for my club over the years.

For me this season now depends on our last couple of signings. If we can bring in a solid CH that will sure us up in set pieces and can play a ball out of the back, a RB and LB both of which are solid in the tackel and can go forward then I see no reason why we won't be top 6 comfortably. The goals will come, but right now I dont think we can stop teams from scoring.

I think we're just improving with every signing .. last season some random bloke from Warrington, this season a decent prospect from West Ham. Can only see good things this campaign.
