Good question. The fact that the strikers have received so little service down the wings probably since Bowler left or CJ returned has spoken volumes. If Appleton should learn one weapon it's square boxes don't fit in round holes and the way he has looked to Beesley, Yates and Lavery to play that wide role this season has been one of his biggest mistakes.

Yates on the left, Bowler on the right. Both benefitting from Madine’s hold up play.

Don't know about Rogers, but bowler wasn't the kind of player that was consistently getting balls into other strikers. I think he only managed two assists last season, bowler also plays inverted so crosses just aren't really a part of his game.

If Appleton sticks to 4-3-3 with Rogers and bowler playing very wide we could end up with a lone striker very isolated.

I'll hold judgement for now, but I'm still not overly confident that results will turn around.

i would like to see Yates or Lavery upfront. If we are only playing with one striker, I would much rather have a striker who will link up play and run behind creating space for others. Apart from Madine’s aerial threat, we must be so easy to defend against. We always resort to long ball as well with Madine.

You really can't help yourself can you? Any mention of Bowler and you are pretty much the first in to criticise him. You made your mind up over a year ago that you didn't like/rate him and that was it, your mind was made up. Now you just take any opportunity to criticise him and try and spoil the upbeat lift that his new loan deal has given the fans. Thank god, most fans, the club and the other players all know what an asset he was and will be. How are Fulham doing by the way?

Lav and Yates have been playing wideish in the main because they'll chase back, will Morgan and Josh do that? Don't know about Morgan but Josh can do only so much of that, so will MA tinker with the formation further meaning Josh doesn't need to chase back?

I've put Yates as the main beneficiary, just ahead of The Wasp, from JB especially. Play JY central and JB will create masses of space. Both players will thrive from that. As long as the CM arrives and JB sees the ball.

He didn't have any options for about the hundredth time

well he's not brought Rogers and Bowler in to not play them so it will be interesting to see who he goes with as his choice of striker or even two if he went 4-2-4. Don't think he'll do that though so it's likely to be just one of the main strikers in a 4-3-3 which is his preferred formation. I don't know anything about Rogers but to some extent you have to give Bowler that freedom to go out and express himself. Sure, he needs to be made aware that he does need to track back and cover when he can even if it's only to put himself between the man and the goal because he certainly can't tackle.
But am I convinced that's what he'll do? No not really, because he should now have plenty of options. The only proviso is of course that Rogers has to prove that he is good enough.

I’ve no idea who will benefit most. That’s up to how Appleton sets us up. He needs to show us that he knows his stuff. By using Bowler effectively.
