Would Cup success make up for a poor League Season?

Who knows, win tonight and get lucky against Bristol City and we're in the 5th round - beat Bolton and progress to the finals stage of the BSM Trophy whilst finished a mediocre 7/8th in the league.
Would that make it a successful or just annoying season?

An FA Cup semi appearance would be a sufficient substitute to a play off place but it seems not enough people are interested in tonight’s game so perhaps an unpopular opinion.

Always the league for me.

I'd be more in favour of the cup comps if Critchley was using participation as a way to come up with a better set up for the league than he has been and to instill it in his players that we can avoid doing things like losing three in a row away at Cambridge, Burton & Port Vale. But he doesn't seem to learn.

I’d take a EFL Trophy win and cup semi final over promotion this season but that’s never going to happen.

Maybe if we reached the final of a major cup comp, which is farytale stuff. That’s the only thing that would come close to a promotion.

BSM means nothing. I remember not being arsed about it when we won it in the 00s, the addition of u/21s has further devalued it IMO.

No at best a cup run would subsidize the financial plight of being in League one. The club just isn't viable in League One. We have to be a championship club with occasional bounces into the premier league.

Getting back to the Championship after coming down has to be the main priority of the club. If we don't even make the playoffs then it should be considered a really poor effort in a very weak League 1 IMO.
Sadly agree with that - Critchley has had the resources and players and last night showed how we can compete when we don't have the shackles on and that's been the scenario too many times this season.
