Yates

Yates seems to be far from first choice for the two or three clubs that could potentially pay what we’re asking.

Not sure Simms to Cov is quite so cut and dried, tho …

He did sign a new contract as we entered the Championship so compared to some of our players, the jump in wages might not be so dramatic (unless it was one of the top players like ‘Boro or Sunderland)

I’d say a club like T’Rovers would be a threat as he can stay where he is living, wages will improve marginally but with extended contract time and unlikely to be in a relegation fight.

Have Blackburn got the money to be spending £4m? If they had cashed in on Brereton Diaz then it's a different story.. I think he's just signed for Villarreal on a free

I’ve always thought 4-5m for Yates was fair however if Simms is going for 8m could you not argue Yates is worth similar? He’s more experienced at this level.

I know Simms is 4 years younger and has massive potential but Yates isn’t exactly an older timer at 26.
You can argue it all you want. Unless someone is willing to pay it, it’s a moot point.

If you were a Championship level DoF would you want to make the argument for spending £8mn on Jerry, especially when you can sign players from anywhere on the planet outside the rules now?

Blackburn have no money and have to sell before they can buy.

The only potential buyers are the relegated teams, Ipswich and Cov (assuming they seek Gyokeres)

Might be a few more takers at £1mn to £1.5mn

Blackburn can't afford him, nor can West Brom.

Unfortunately the likes of Cov, Leicester and Luton do. I'd be delighted if he was still here come the 2nd Sept, but I just don't see it. I only hope we have a clear strategy to replace him, should an agreeable offer come in.

Luton won’t as there’ll be better free transfer options who are Prem ready.
Likewise Leicester for the Championship

Cov is probs best bet

Let's hope he stays... bangs a load in.. storm league so jerry happy to stay.. go up and extend contract again.. job done.

Yes but we don't WANT to sell Yates. He's not being offered around. If clubs bid £1-1.5m then he shouldn't be going anywhere.

I'd imagine that the "£8m" for Simms would include a substantial amount of add-ons that may never be paid, whereas Yates is likely to be closer to a pure cash deal.

I just dont think anyone is going to come in with a 4-6 mil for him which is what we know his worth.

His lack of goals last season might put a few off.

Leicester are going to have more to burn when Maddison & Harvey Barnes are sold. They will need to beef up their forward line because it's possible Vardy will also leave. 5M for Jerry is a fair price for a Championship quality striker who is also a team player.

Maddison is already gone. 5M plus add ons. I can't see why we always have the piss taken out of other and other clubs sell their best players for 6/7/8M+?

Just been told by a Coventry supporting mate of mine that they're Spending £8m on Simms and have (apparently) today bid £4m plus a decent sell on clause, for Jerry.

Disclaimer For the benefit of the usual avftt suspects who scream at anyone who posts a rumour, I don't know if this is true, it's just what I've been told 👍

Was beginning to think maybe Yates would stay given the initial speculation had died down, maybe wishful thinking. But him not playing tonight says to me he’s off, can’t think of any reason why he wouldn’t play.

£3.5m, rising to £5m depending on goals, then £8m if they get promoted. Good deal that.
Great business for them, which means they still have plenty of money left from the Gyokeres sale.

They'll have than enough for Yates... getting a second striker would be well within their interests and could easily afford 4m.

We go to Ireland on Monday for a week so whether or not Jerry goes will be telling. Let's see how this pans out.

I've said for months now that whatever happens we are in a good position;
A) He stays and we have an easy 25+ goal scorer in League 1.
B) We have 4m in the bank to fund an immediate replacement. Jonson Clarke-Harris for 2m would fill that void and we'd still have some left over.

Here we go again.

Just remember, it's the player and his agent who hold the cards in this scenario NOT the club.

Every player has a natural time to move on. Like Bowler.

You keep a player when he wants a move that will better his earnings and career .... and you'll never keep others coming.

Simple eh? Like some on here.

Avoiding injury Simms will have a much better career than Yates IMO.

This is not true at all.

The player and agent have influence undoubtedly, but ultimately the club have a contract with Jerry until 2025, if Jerry wants to move it will only be if the club sanctions it.

Agreed that there is a right time to move on for every player and this very well may be the right time for Jerry, but if he doesn't get the move because Coventry haven't made the right offer then he stays and will play.

No player is going to look at us not allowing him to leave for pennies and think twice about signing for us in the future.

When a player leaves they don't get the fee. They get increased wages and a signing on fee with the new club.

See what happens when you 'keep' a player to his contract.

Wake up dude.

Bowler was out of contract at the end of the season. Jerry is under contract for longer
A gentleman's agreement to sell if we were not in the promotion picture in Jan and the offer was over X million would suit both parties.
So maybe not so simple

If I were Jerry (and being his age) and heard the names of team sniffing round ..... I'd feel this is the right time for a move.

We can't have any complaints, he's put a. good shift in for the Pool.

Unfortunately contracts are not worth the paper they're written on in football.
