Jordan Rhodes on loan

Rhodes would be a good signing at this level.

Forget his stats more recently at Huddersfield. He was playing in the Championship and regularly used from the bench so his goal scoring figures will be down.

As long as he stays fit, he will be an asset for us.

Yep.
He's played the equivalent of 24 matches in the last two seasons, scoring 8.
Which might not sound much, but it's the same scoring rate as the likes of Nahki Wells, Will Keane and.......Jerry Yates achieved in the Championship last season.

As said above, he could be this season's Kevin Phillips.

Sell a rising striker in Yates for a fat sum.

Buy another crock, Joseph.

Borrow a 33-year-old pastit forward, with a staggering eight goals in 51 games.

That's what many will call typical Pool.

Snatching mediocrity from promotion's jaws.
I remember a lot saying the same when we signed Dickov. He proved to be an excellent loan signing for us.

Can't write anyone off before we see them in Tangerine.

33 is still a decent age, he's still been popping up with the odd goal in the Championship, in a struggling team and mainly from the bench.

Ten years ago I might have been excited. The days when Rhodes terrorises defences are long gone.

£2.8m for Yates and we replace him with a has been. Is Michael Chopra not available as well?
But ten years ago he was banging 25 goals in the Championship. We’d never have had a sniff of signing him.

We’re in desperate need of someone to come in with a bit of nous up top. He’s not exactly in the Madine mould so we’ll have to stop launching balls up but he’s going to be a step up from Beesley as a partner for Lavery. He’s been playing Championship football for the past decade, his experience and ability will be an asset if he signs (and stays fit).

Still would like another striker in though as we’ll still be short without Joseph for a while.

a kevin phillips type please

He’s got the experience, but this to me feels like a backup because we’ve missed our primary targets. He’s not our player. He’s not one for the future. There’s no investment return. Poor strategy imo. Except none of us will mind if he fires us up the league.

dont need any more "ONES FOR THE FUTURE" we have a development team full of ones for the future

We need the future but we've also got to fix the lack of goal threat in the now. Rhodes is for the now, so a good tactical fix whilst we work on the strategy.

Started 15 games last season, came on as a sub in 19. Scored 5 goals. Roughly a goal every 4 games. That said Huddersfield were a poor team and it was in the Championship. He is another year older though. I just don't see how he fits in with our tactics though, if we were creating loads or getting more pressure on the opposition 18yd box l would understand it a bit more. For every Dickov there is at least 4 Kevin Sheedy's.

Does it matter who’s up front if we’re tippy tappying across the back line, back to Grimmy or hoofing it over the wide man’s head for a throw in?

And if we’ve still not used either the Critchley or Yates money why the hell are we bothering with season long loans for a player who’s past his best?

O'Rourke is one of the better journos when it comes to transfer news. He gets far more right than he does wrong. He broke Yates going to Swansea and Joseph coming to us as well as our interest in Kouassi before anyone else.
He also said that Gary Bowyer was going to be our new manager earlier in the summer.

You’re definitely correct in that he gets more right than wrong but he has had the occasional howler too.

If we don’t buy a striker for a considerable fee by the end of the window I will be shocked.

I thought the Joseph/Yates swap was a great deal as long as we bought another striker with the money too.

Rhodes adds good experience, but we certainly need more.

“Oooooh
Jordan Rhodes
Jordan Rhodes
He scores loads
Oooooh
Jordan Rhodes”

Hmmm. Probably needs a bit of work.

🎶 Jordan Rhodes, Jordan Rhodes riding through the glen 🎶

🎶 Jordan Rhodes, Jordan Rhodes with his band of men 🎶

🎶 He scores before the North, he scores before the South 🎶

🎶 Jordan Rhodes, Jordan Rhodes,
Scoring loads, scoring loads 🎶….

Probably needs loads of work

not one for me. If he doesn't score he contributes the square root of nothing to the rest of the game. Totally anonymous. We need a goalscorer though so if he can do that for us then that's fine.
Thats how I feel tbh. Oak-B and Rhodes suggests a lack of ideas and imagination to me. We'll see.
