Middlesbrough v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 18.09.21

But why is TJJ being singled out? Presumably Bowler, Lavery and Anderson are playing ok?
TJJ is a young lad, needs to learn from Jerry, and I thought against Fulham it looked a blossoming partnership. Lavery and Bowler completely different, more individual players with skill & pace, but without Jerry’s qualities.

Jerry’s qualities?? We’re a boring side to watch as well.

From the games I’ve seen, apart from the second half, we don’t need a midfield because we hoof it up to our very small strikers

...but JJ has been useless in every league game he's played.
....but still no-one is answering the question what have the other three done today to justify avoidance of criticism on today's overall performance so far? What has their contribution been? What chances have they created? Is their movement any good?

To repeat what I said several weeks ago, if this is the Championship list we had, I dread to think what the league one list was.

I’m not watching live but TJJ should be no where near the starting 11 at the moment. Yates should have started he defends just as well as he attacks

Nobody's linking up with them. The midfielders are largely anonymous. I agree that Yates would be better than Lavery today. He could bring Anderson more into play. As for Maxwell, I don't want him in the team as a midfielder.

Poor display by everyone can't hold the ball and passing woeful.

Bowler is getting on the ball but he’s getting tangled up in defenders before he can get to the boro area and do damage.Lavery is working his socks off and tracking back.no chances for him yet.

John jules isn’t the worst performance I would say Marv takes that award for first half terrible distribution. I don’t like being negative about John jules but he’s had some good chances and faked them up.

Midfield non existent.Going long for Lavery mostly not working.

I’ve seen us play worse.Tempo isn’t bad just sloppy.

poor half, and this is not a good side we are up against. TJJ should have buried his chance. change it over at half time for Jerry, whoc will put their defence under pressure. lose keogh as well, he consistently slows the game down, i think Maxwell is bringing the ball out so far because keogh doesnt do anything with it when he has it.

push sinclair into CB and bring on Gabriel

I'm usually a glass half full kind of person but that was pretty dire. Critch needs to give them a right bollocking and make changes now, no good waiting for 60 or 70 minutes. Obviously the goal was miles offside, an absolute joke, but we've not been good enough so far, way under par.
Good thing is, it's still only one and 45 minutes to go, so let's get at 'em this half 🧡

Would personally swap TJJ out for Madine, switch Lavery out the left and let Anderson play in the centre to try link up play - and if that doesn’t work bring Yates on in his place.

Keshi needs to get into the game too. Between him and Garbutt it's a bit scary down that left hand side. Push forward and give them something to think about. Maybe Husband for Garbutt.

I think it's a valid question. All I'll say is that in previous games those players have shown something but for me TJJ hasn't. Maybe it's not right but that makes it easier to criticise TJJ because in ten games so far he's produced very little.

At every level there are some players you put in the starting 11. Jerry is one of those players for us. If we hope to play as a team unit, you have to knit it together with essential players. As a unit and the players we have, we would be far more suited to 3-5-2

I am getting throughly cheesed off with NC, and his bizarre selections. On Tuesday, after beating Fulham, leaving Stewart on the bench and dropping Keshi. Today, showing confidence in Garbutt, leaving out Hubby who is 100% a better defender, and dropping Jerry.

We have a really talented squad, but we are not getting the best from it.
