If it had been a virtual safety car, the gaps between cars would have been maintained.
Why are they allowed to bunch up behind the real safety car?

In fairness it would be hard to argue that Verstappen/Red Bull don't deserve it over the course of the season (as unlikeable as they both are) but that was just a fix - F1 just sacrificed any sporting decency or sense of justice to provide a "spectacle" for 30 seconds.

In effect that's what Masa just said. He wanted a 30 second spectacle and ignored the rules and protocol.

It's like a football team being 5-0 up and the last minute someone shouts "Next goal wins' like when we were kids.
 
What a ridiculous sport if you can call it that with no credibility left at all.
That's like a tennis player being 5-1 up in a Wimbledon final and then told it's 6-6 now and get on with it. They didn't even let Hamilton start in front after the safety car...utterly ridiculous.
F1 on a par with wrestling as a pantomime.

One thing that has become clear over the run-in this season, is that F1 desperately needs to change its rules around team principals communicating with the race director.

They should make it so that the race director is the only one who can initiate comms. This whole farce of listening to Horner and Wolff haranguing him every 10 minutes is entirely undignified and can only lead to poor decisions being made.
 
I’m no fan of F1 so can anyone explain why the 11 second gap suddenly disappeared. . Surely they should have re started the race with the same gap?

It’s a question I posed a few posts back - under a virtual safety car, the cars can’t bunch up, under a real safety car all the race leaders hard work is stolen from him.

What has what the father did got to do with the son? If a father is a murderer does the son spend his life on parole ?
 
Why were the drivers told that the lapped card would not be let through and Max being back in 5th place behind then only for No announcement to be made but let those lapped cars in-lap themselves

Re writing the rules during the race is bound to be unfair to someone . Masi should be sacked .
I wouldt be surprised if there is a long enquiry and possibly legal action .

Safety cars have always worked that way. They are used when there is an obstruction on the track in order to make it safe for the drivers and marshals to clear the obstruction.

They introduced the virtual safety car system to try to minimise this (all the cars travel at 60% pace) but that is still way too fast to be safe in many circumstances.

It brought back bad memories of the scumbags West Ham beating us at Wembley.

I wonder how much Red Bull paid Latifi to crash into the barriers?

I think that’s why Hamilton was so magnanimous at the end, but the safety car situation was utter farce.

It might not seem very fair, and it might not be. However the alternative after an accident would be to stop the race and restart after the track has been cleared. In which case the cars would be all together anyway. It’s a six and two threes if afraid.
 
Mercedes protest in, that was always going to happen but I doubt the FIA will reverse their decision now. What I do know is that they seriously need to look at their race directors going forward. Last race there was a 'deal or no deal' scenario, this week a complete farce. That has been the case way too many times this season, not all in Max's favour I may add. As a sport, you are only as good as your officiating, today hasn't done F1 any favours.

I didn't mention Max did I? You suggested that Hamilton and Wolff are worse than Joss Verstappen and Horner, which is clearly bollocks.
