Transfer deadline day thread

For example, if you guys rate Thorniley at say 400k and are offering let's say 500k plus Thorniley so a total transfer of 900k.
The fact that Thorniley can only play for us or you again this season, means we have the upper hand for negotiating the Thorniley worth to the deal.

If you value him too highly within the deal i.e. not offering enough for CB, then we simply keep saying no and he stays with you for the rest of the season and CB stays with us. You can't say/threaten that there is interest for Thorniley from elsewhere to pressure us in to doing a deal for him, because he can't sign elsewhere for this season.

So the options remain to up a cash only deal for CB, reduce the value of Thorniley in a deal whilst increasing the cash, offer someone else and cash or pull the plug.
Lancs Live are saying the latest bid is pushing 7 figures and doesnt include Thornily

Seems like it took Oxford about 3 hours to reject the bid we made this morning.

It's been 2 hours since we made the improved bid so we should be hearing soon if it was rejected...

The longer it goes without a word being said the better.
The longer it goes, the less time there is to close out the deal. If we really want to accept, you'd think we'd want to allow as much time as possible for it to get done to allow any potential replacement to be sorted or avoid it collapsing due to time constraints.

That could definitely be right, but IMO if it takes longer to reject the bid, then that just means they are giving it more consideration than before or they are telling us we're close and they want a little more or a player to replace Brannagan (like Robson)

Getting towards the type of thing we'd accept then I imagine.

I've no idea what Thorniley is "worth". He's played less than 100 league games, and has made the same number of league appearances for us as he has for you. Personally I'd have him back to be a squad player, but wouldn't want to be valuing him too highly for that kind of role.

Or leave it to the summer, when you've already lost in play offs and we will very much stay a Championship side. Then he (or his agent) will come knocking
Exactly, any deal you do now, will be more expensive than the summer.
Makes sense for everyone to reconvene in May.

I would agree in that Robson is almost like-for-like in position and probably a greater value of make-weight in the deal.

Signing him in the Summer might be cheaper, but I can also see the logic in signing him now if we have the money because

1) We have a gaping hole in that position in our team ATM so he'd slot right in and be able to integrate into the team much quicker so by the time the 2022/2023 season rolls around he'll be acclimated.

2) If we wait to the Summer, Oxford might have gone up (which would eliminate almost all chances of us signing him) or another club who realizes his price is cut will come in for him as well (he was getting looks from Burnley and Leeds in 2020)

I just hope, whatever the outcome with Brannagan, that we've not put all our eggs in one basket, we need to strengthen in midfield and if it's not going to be him, we really need someone else instead

Do we really need to strengthen in midfield? It might be nice but given our league position and the players who are still to come back from injury what we've got already should be more than adequate.

At this stage I'd say CB is too expensive and we'd be better off keeping the money and looking at other options in the summer.

We need some" self control " with Brannagan. Constantly upping the bid smacks of desperation in what has become a sellers market when the clock is ticking!. Wait until the season ends, as captainox suggested. Keep Bowler and as he tears championship clubs apart his value will rocket.

I understand people thinking it's desperation from us (because with so many bids why would you not think that?), but as many have mentioned earlier, our board are not arrogant or stupid, they would not bid a ridiculous amount of times without there being someone giving them information or a reason to believe that we could get it done. Perhaps it's CB's agent who is telling us that we're close or even someone from Oxford who are saying "You're close, we'll sell if you up it a bit."?

Or maybe I'm wrong and it really is desperation and Critchley just absolutely loves Cam Bran so much that he's told the board to do whatever is necessary in order to get him 😂

It's not just us ..this whole window has virtually ground to a halt.
No one is letting go until they've brought a replacement in.
Someone needs to knock the first domino over to kick-start some activity.

It’s all to do with covid, clubs are unwilling to let players go unless they are completely surplus to requirements, including risk assessments for covid and injuries.

Just seen Josh Bowler outside the ground with a cheese board in one hand and a bowl of chips cheese and gravy in the other. Make of that what you will

Oxford forum...

"All gone a bit quiet since 2pm hasn't it...note also there hasn't been a speedy "no" on the Brannagan 4th bid like there was this morning."

Are they mulling it over? Close? Cigar? 😆

Forest back in for Bowler and they're getting close to our asking price.

They seem to be getting desperate. They had a 2,000,000 bid for Jed Wallace rejected earlier so that may be around what their budget is for a winger.

Perhaps the rumors of our valuation of Bowler being around 1,500,000 were correct 🤔

This indicates that they'll reject the second bid soon and I'd assume that'll make us move on to Norburn.
I wouldn’t read too much into it, we already know that was there stance publicly.

1. We wouldn’t be pursuing if Cameron and Oxford were clear he’s not going anywhere

2. Why would it take so long to reject? You would make a point of immediately saying no publicly rather than let the circus continue

Il be pissed if Bowler goes, especialy for 1.5M

Forest have been in for Wallace and Josh for the whole window, so they have more available than you suggest considering that they were after both players.

"Fulham midfielder Fabio Carvalho could move to Liverpool in a deal which could see the 19-year-old, who has played for England at youth levels, loaned back to the Championship club until the end of the season." If this happens then Bowler to Fulham becomes less likely in this window. I genuinely believe the longer we hold on to Bowler the higher is value will grow. Also, I would expect more interest from the Premier League.

Hope I’m wrong but looking a possibility that Bowler going and Brannagan staying put 🙈. The exciting part is…..you never know
