Summer transfer rumours thread.

We should go out and sign Joe Rothwell, free agent leaving Blackburn. I’m sure he will have other suitors but would like to think we would be interested.

Has vast championship experience (played 41 games this season) He is rated highly by the Blackburn fans. Quality centre-mid that has creativity and very good dribbler.

Manchester born former England youth player would also know Brannigan from his time at Oxford. 😉

From wiki he has played 3 games for us on loan back in 2015
Sadly no chance, turned down a massive contract offer from Blackburn and is expected to

join Bournemouth in the premier league

Joe Rothwell actually played 3 games for us on loan back in the day. I had a conversation with him on the train one Saturday this season. Nice guy, but no way he’d come here or that we could afford him sadly.

Scrafton mentioned it in his list of out of contract players this morning, but Tom Lowery from Crewe Alexandra is out of contract his Summer, would be very surprised if we didn't go in for him.

Out of contract, 24 years old, 4 goals and 4 assists in an absolutely dire Crewe team plus he already has two former teammates in the squad in Dale and Kirk (when we sign him). Think he could be a good replacement for Grant Ward or alternative to Ebou Adams if we don't go that route.

It’s a bit concerning if we’re continually picking up players from a team that came bottom of League One - I appreciate they have a good youth setup but we should be aspiring for more

We bid in the region of £1mill for Brannigan in January didn’t we, when Sadler would have already been aware of the c.£30mill investment he’s recently made public.

With that in mind I think it’s fair to say we will still try and spend around that value on a player or two if the right ones are available.

Maybe spend a little more given the Bowler money.

I understand the sentiment here, but I have to disagree, simply because a player was playing for a bad team in a lower league does not mean that they are not good enough.

Dale, Kirk and Wintle proved that they were all more than good enough at Championship level last year and Perry Ng and Harry Pickering were both class in the Championship as well. Crewe produces a decent amount of class players and regardless of their position in the league table those players are still class.

Marvin and Sonny were playing in the National League, Shayne from the Northern Irish League, good players can be found anywhere.

Not saying Lowery is the be all end all, think Brannagan would be better, just saying he (and many other players too) could be good regardless of where his team finished last year. 👍

Ay Bob , Barry n Ken all brothers, grand set of lads. Bob wanted to be a footballer but never understood the rules,
Barry was a Traffic Warden really well liked, Ken went onto work for the council as well as a Traffic Executive Officer, I think
Bob got him the job.

Hes a good player who caught my eye, but a bit lightweight perhaps. He was left out of the side for months last year as he wouldn't sign a new contract, but we never went for him to my knowledge. So have doubts if Critchley wants him.We will see.

If we’re talking holding midfielders with Championship experience, how about QPR’s Don Ball? Thought he looked really good against us at their place.

(A suggestion, not speculation/linking!)

I agree. A lot depends on the quality of the scouting at the club and the degree to which, with work, players can be developed. Marvin is a good example.

A smart loan move for top player would be an idea - here are two suggested players who seem to be always out of favour.
Harry Winks / Ross Barkley.
Must be a few options - and we would only pay part of their wages.
Still need the perm signings too - like Branagan.

Love the optimism, but I'll shave my head if we manage to sign or even attempt to go in for either of those.

The likes of James Kirk if he is signed and Dale may yet turnout to be very good signings. Some players take longer than others to settle and adjust.

Others hit it from the off (Lavery) then regress for a while.I still expect him to be a good un.

Keogh looked like a huge mistake initially and look how that turned out.

I'd like a more enterprising winger. Someone who can exploit space ahead of him

Nope - they were just two examples, there are others less well know ... Sterling. Winks must be pissed off, so why not make an approach, when the season starts. Maybe a more local player would be a better example.
They will be earning over £50k (If Ross is still at Chelsea I would say a fair whack more) and are established Premier League players at big clubs, neither of them will touch the Championship anytime soon even if a club could match their crazy wages. I wouldnt be surprised if Ross Barkley was earning more than our first eleven combined

Winks and Barkley more likely to go on loan to a Prem club. Fulham/ Southampton/ Palace standard.
