Summer transfer rumours thread.

Bowler came on a free, a slow burner start then he shifted gear ... and we're about to turn 0 fee plus his wages into 4+ (maybe 7) million if rumours are true. Just need the club to find a few more decent Prem cast offs - plus a couple of top lads from L1&2.
How hard can it be?

We also need to shop overseas, all the best teams have picked up quality from that pool.
Historically, we've also signed such players, even under the ownership of those who we don't mention - without retching!

Watching the Massive vs. Sunderland play-off semi-final yesterday and was impressed by the young lad Jack Clarke on loan to Sunderland from Spurs. He was signed by Spurs from Leeds for 10M couple of years ago. Similar player to Bowler and signed for a big fee but not made it into the Spurs first team. If Sunderland win promotion I can see both him and Nathan Broadhead being on the Mackems shopping list but if not maybe worth looking at least a seasons long loan.

Good news, thought people were jumping the gun when they said he wasn't coming back because he wasn't on the retained list.

Was very good in the little time he played and feel that with more guidance from Critch could become our starter at LM (if Keshi leaves)
He was very good against Birmingham when there were no blue shirts anywhere near him. I have mixed feelings myself. But it's not my call fortunately!

Broadhead is on loan from Everton I think. Actually, I’m pretty sure that we were linked with him towards the end of the summer window.

Not sure he has the killer instinct, he may well fit into Critcley's style of play but for me not the type of winger I
prefer to watch. Dale does have more potential & could improve. This lad Moynuex we are supposed to be inerested in looks more of a threat (if true).

Yes, it's quite a good example how difficult it is for young players to breakthrough in the EPL. Everton have Simms, Dobbin and Broadhead all vying for a place in the Everton squad but not really getting a look in. Broadhead is 24 so unless Everton get relegated I am pretty sure he will be leaving Everton sooner rather than later probably to Sunderland. Dobbin is regarded as the best finisher but has had some injury concerns.

I don’t think he’s been very good against anybody. He’s been alright but like Dale hasn’t taken full advantage of his loan, he hasn’t imposed himself and is lightweight. We may take a punt but not at £500,000.

I was too. 👍

Dale was made permanent in January

I know, I wouldn’t have signed him . My point is that neither of them made much of an impression during their loan period. But as long as you’ve played for Crewe that’s all that matters, the only decent ex Crewe we’ve had was Wintle.

He was very good against Birmingham IMO, but Birmingham were all over the shop at the back.

Dale and Kirk - two different type of wingers. Both have shown glimpses of what they can do. Whether either or both can do it consistently in the Championship I'm not so sure but they would need a run of games to give them a chance of proving themselves. It's really down to Critch and how he feels about them both. Perhaps he sees either or both of them as good squad players, who knows? We just have to back his judgement. Last summer he signed Reece James pretty early on and I thought he'd be a good signing and first choice left back . But in the end he was only third choice behind Hubby and Garbutt. We just have to trust in Critch to know what and who he wants and to do his best to get them.

Kirk can beat the first man from a set piece, something nobody else in the squad seems capable of doing.
Definitely a better option on the wing than both Dale and CJ in my opinion.

I agree Kirk's set pieces are better than the others but I can't recall him actually beating a man which is a
concern. Dale certainly can as can CJ , by speed not trickery.

Don’t disagree with that - all our wingers do seem to have different qualities.
I wouldn’t be desperate to start any of them tbh. I’d like to maybe see us experiment with a system that doesn’t have wingers like a 3-5-2, with Gabriel at RWB and another at LWB. Would allow us to play 3 in central midfield whilst also having 2 strikers on the pitch.
If Bowler was staying that would be different as you can’t afford to not play him, but we all know he’s off.

i think Dale and Kirk would be more suited to a 433 system, but as we know this can only work when your midfielders can pick a pass or two !

Trying to think of any successful ones, cubero Zelinski were both chite, so bad not sure I have there names correct. Any others ? Genuine question btw
David Vaughn was a great signing from Spain but hardly Spanish

Dales last goal should be enough to convince folk at the very least the lad has skills goal of the season contender

We never signed Zelinski, we couldn’t get a work permit

I think our foreign signings were based on tips from ollies mates rather than scouting. Angel Martinez brilliant, sylvestre great too. Got lucky, plenty of flops too, Kornilenko or Malaury Martin for example

Just heard from a mate of a mate in the pub we might be signing Tonton Zola Mokouko 🤣

I predict sometime soon we'll recommence our multi year (it's like the football signing version of lord of the rings) quest to sign that Oxford midfielder. I anticipate OxfordFan125 being back banging on about how Oxford are somehow noteworthy and interesting even though they're mostly remembered for winning something called the "milk cup" which is a bit embarrassing, if I won the "milk cup" I'd probably just pretend I hadn't.

The Milk Cup was the League Cup, contested by all 4 divisions, so not to be sniffed at. Won it in 1986 so not ancient history. Arsenal won it the year after. Very few small clubs have won it. Swindon. Luton.

Exactly. Sure, it's lost some of it's appeal but it still gets a massive turn out for the final but it most certainly still is a prestigious trophy to win. lt was I think also a route into Europe.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t think 1986 is ancient history. But it was 36 years ago … so closer to 1953 than it is to today!

The likes of James Kirk if he is signed and Dale may yet turnout to be very good signings. Some players take longer than others to settle and adjust.

Others hit it from the off (Lavery) then regress for a while.I still expect him to be a good un.

Keogh looked like a huge mistake initially and look how that turned out.
