Jimmy Armfield Mural Update 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Whoever commissioned this artist has dropped a bollock. We didn't vote for a caricature which is what this artists style plainly is. Airbrush out the face and let Purdonkey redo the face (if he's available and willing). At least we will have someone who knows and appreciates the subject matter.
 
Did the organisers do reseach on the artist, they need a good shoeing. I said it looked good, but was a good 500 yards away, with poorish eyesight. Looking at these pics I would start from scratch.

Then why did the artist say it was , see post#202. I think due to all the negative feedback they realise bollocks have been dropped and it’s now damage limitation.

I found it really hard painting a picture from the 50’s as it was very soft. I tried a few things that I wasn’t happy with ….. but persevered and now I have a mural on the wall I’m so proud of. I just hope I’ve done Jimmy and his family justice. UTMP🧡."

So he was frugal with the truth? Or realised a lot of folk think its sh*t

Yeah as said by others and lee Charles, feedback has been fed back to him and apparently coming back to fix them, this despite the artist initially saying he was done.

Hes done a decent job overall just of he can correct a few things with the face it'll be great.

The shadow under the nose is a bit much, the eyes, straighten the badge, the sign could be better too with a border but thats minor.

Sort that and it'll be great.

He was finished but seemingly after feedback is coming back, sometimes you can initially look at it and think its alright once you see it a certain way, you can't unsee it.

Nothing wrong with him taking the feedback and adjusting to what people want.

Spot on…. Once the tweaks are done it will be fine, then it comes down to personal taste and you’ll never please everyone on that front.

I’d also add that unless you’re actually an artist, it’s also difficult to be constructive…

The best sone of us might come up with is “urgh that’s crap”, but we’d have no real idea as to why it wasn’t appealing to us, just that it wasn’t.
It’s bound to be a topic of conversation and let’s face it, the initial face was an absolute dogs dinner… and clearly he recognised that himself.

We were led to believe that the revised image that was on display at the weekend was the finished article … The artist said that himself… To be honest, I thought it was a massive improvement and hadn’t noticed the issue with the eyes at all, until pointed out… (it’s almost like the concave face illusion, that once you see it a different way you get it).

We can talk about being nice, we can talk about hurting feelings etc.. and that’s all important stuff, but ultimately it boils down to someone contracting to do a job… Unfortunately instead of just having to please one or two people, this bloke has to please several thousand…

Funnily enough I rationalised the whole thing as being in the style of old postcards or football cards… 👍

I think it's good and really adds something to the area round the ground that's unique to us, and a suitable tribute to a great man. Maybe could do with a tweak to the eyes as others have said, but I think some very harsh criticisms on here.

I tried to have a word with someone about it and ask for my money back, but security chucked me out for being disrespectful.😟

I’m not sure if you’ve ever been, but put it this way, I’d the bloke who did that was tasked with doing our mural, we would have something to moan about.

It’s funny, I thought the ceiling was pretty amazing, but that blue fresco on the back wall looked like wallpaper for the munsters kids bedroom! 🤣

Yep, would have pissed me of if he built a chapel there instead. But then again for only 10k.... 🤔

The Armfield mob will say it looks the dogs doodahs but the fact is it looks appalling and is not what we were told it would be. It will be embarrassing to present that to Sir Jimmy’s family as it looks nothing like him!
 
Seems it was expected by most to be realism and turned out to be more caricature. I personally don't have a problem with it being more caricature and actually think as a piece it works well for the area and as a sight from distance. I do agree about the eyes though, they look far too heavy. Sort that and it's a lovely piece.

Even a caricature has some resemblence, get it white washed and tell him to start again.

There's a few already getting tetchy about it on Twitter.

An artist has pointed out exactly what's wrong with it on the Lee Charles tweet and has a couple of sarcastic responses.

Fact is that it's not what was advertised so people are gonna be pissed off.
 
It's truly a shocking representation of the great man.

I didn't contribute or collect for it, appreciate the effort of those that did and the original idea, but please I'd urge those that did to either alter it significantly or paint over it and start again.

It can't stay up in it's current guise, we can't have him become a laughing stock or a point of ridicule.

Yeah it's not great. Eyes are terrible -can't even see the pupils. Maybe correcting them will make the rest of his face look better because for me that's poor as well.

Just think sort the eyes and add a little flesh tone to the face and it’s be fine.

Just a bit to much Walking Dead meets lady parts
