£20 additional charge for a physical card..

I get what you're saying re Wigan, but they're nearer to Liverpool & Manchester and they have to fight harder than us against the draw of top Prem teams.
(It's the same for Noblot of course, but they have considerably more history and a much stronger tradition of support being passed through families)

Taking the southern clubs out of that list on the TK's Twitter, we're the 2nd equal cheapest out of 6.
That's got to be seen as reasonable, surely?

* Starts countdown to someone popping up to say we should be the cheapest *
Not much harder than we do with people from other towns in Blackpool all with allegiances elsewhere, the towns built of a decent chunk of other towns folk. One of the poorest areas too. Also we've had a very unique struggle to recover from.

The fact is when you compare to Wigan, when the extras are accounted for, ours is a fair bit worse.

Looks like our price point is very competitive though, so it kind of puts paid to a lot of the bullshit we’ve seen on this thread and others from the usual suspects.
Conveniently ignoring the extras mentioned. The price is once again ok at best, nothing creative about it, no extras, nothing to entice people in, nothing clever tried.

Also where teams like Fleetwood etc on the list?

It seems you've conveniently ignored the Clubs that are significantly higher priced than Blackpool too...

The key for me here is that given that we are a Club who ought to be competing for Promotion next Season (as opposed to one that has just been docked 3 points for failing to pay their players), I'm more than satisfied that we have the Price Point absolutely 100% spot on and that the serial moaners and penny pinchers are completely wide of the mark on that front.

That said, the Club's Marketing and PR leaves an awful lot to be desired and they could certainly do an awful lot more to promote themselves, the Club and most importantly to attract more fans to come and watch on Matchdays.

As for Fleetwood Town... Their entire revenue from attendances is pretty much 'Pocket Change' and so they can probably afford to give tickets away.... I'm not sure we should be using Clubs like Fleetwood as our yardstick TBH.

The Boomer generation, yes we were very fortunate to be brought up with rationing of food and clothing following WW2. We were lucky enough to understand the concepts, long forgotten, about keeping rubbish in our pockets to take home, recycling bottles and giving up our seats to ladies etc. Seeing an 8 inch television in Black and White for the first time in the early fifties, suffering from cold in the winters due to there being no central heating, Ice on the windows in the morning, coal fires only in one room. One pair of shoes and darned socks, sewn up tears in trousers and jackets, walking and running to school, no we didn't have a car until much later, Iron lungs for the unfortunate sufferers of Polio, smallpox still about, scarlet fever and various other long forgotten complaints, starting Infants school and being rapped on the knuckles with a ruler if misbehaving, hearing your Dad wanting to earn £15 per week. Yes houses were cheap in those days, but relative to the wages being paid. No phones, only the posh people had them. Going to Junior school and having a head master with a cane, which was used. Gym wear for girls was their skirts tucked into their knickers, lads had short pants until their teens. school parades every morning to ensure kids were tidy. So the Grammar School all teachers had canes which were used regularly, Peaked hats had to be worn with the uniform at all times outside the school. So to work, £3-10/00d (£3.50) starting wage for a 48 hour a week job. 6 days at work 1 day at college in our own time and the rest of the day to ourselves. I could carry on in my case to working 7 days a week as a manager up to 16 hours a day in the early 1970's for a magnificent wage of £40.00 per week, no pension fund, and yes we did have a Mortgage at a high interest rate from memory, but were helped by our parents as we do for our kids.

We have been lucky to date that there have been no major wars, but life was hard at times whatever the younger generation think we didn't do. So when decrying our generation BFCx3 and all the other know alls' think how you would cope without your internet, your smart TV, your car or multi cars in some cases, your mobile phone your smart watch, your central heating, your double glazing, your take aways etc etc.

As I do not live on this board , as some seem to do, particularly when supposedly working, please do not expect an immediate response from me if you disagree with anything I have said. Oh! and I wouldn't have changed my up bringing for the world, Two wonderful parents and an excellent learning curve.

Carpe Diem.

Mostly down south where their incomes are far higher, remember.

Here's Boltons, which went on sale ages ago.

Screenshot_20230516_164433_Chrome.jpg

Includes some perks too, shop discount etc.

So that's...

Wigan 349 or 329 in their version of the South or North, all with some really good perks.

Bolton as above.

Nobbers in a league above 280.

Fleetwood offering the same product far cheaper.

Yet let's compare to Clubs down south or without any of the issues we've faced. 🤔

The clubs in our area are the most relevant to us and we've had way worse issues. We could have done a lot more.

I,m officially an OAP and have been for years. What,s the problem. ? I will renew my season tickets and make a decision on the £20 charge for a plastic card on the day I renew. Thank your lucky stars you don't support a prem club!@ My son in law pays well over a grand for his season ticket and £8 a pint. Just look forward to away days to Stevenage, Shrewsbury, Portsmouth etc and support your club.UTMP!@!

It seems your mate Robbie has deemed my reply unacceptable (despite it not breaking one single rule of the forum) ... Moderation on behalf of his pals and based on his personal taste!!

To sum it up... I don't agree with your slant, though at least you're afforded the freedom to past it... Another luxury / benefit afforded to the boomer generation I suppose.

Oh and my Generation coped just as well without all of the modern day technology as it has done with it.... We're largely adaptable... The generation that brought about the positive societal changes like an end to racism, homophobia and embraced females as our equals instead of our servants.

oh, don't get too precious, mary. He deleted my reply to you too!

This is worth a thread of its own.

Both my parents have dementia and I’ve witnessed and cared for them through their journey. For a long period they were able to cope and live with some normality. As time went by they lost the ability to complete everyday tasks and one of those was the ability to use a landline telephone. At no stage on their journey were they able to use a mobile, let alone a smartphone.

I’m not ‘old’ or a senior, but I’ve been a fan for more than 40 years. I know we have many elderly supporters who may not have a smartphone or have the capability to use one.

Simon, the £20 is morally wrong, particularly when we have set u18 prices at a great low price. Well done for that, a good move.

Let’s not target our most vulnerable fans in this way. A nominal £5 charge might be more acceptable, but personally I’d prefer to see all senior prices include a physical card if requested.
I tend not to read much of the thread content but I just wanted to say, TT, that I don’t doubt you are doing a great job for your parents; the very fact that you express yourself here shows that you care deeply for them. Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline is cruel for the people that suffer from it and those that care for them. I hope you are getting the support that you deserve, as a family, and that you are getting respite when the opportunity presents. Look after yourself.

Appreciate that, thank you.

I only mentioned my parents to illustrate that for some in our community there is no choice. It wasn’t particularly about dementia, but old age generally and those with mental disabilities. However, it’s not just about cognitive ability, as skin issues in the elderly mean some cannot operate a smartphone, due to the lack of moisture in their hardened skin. The screens don’t respond to their input. It’s little things like this that many of us don’t ever need to think about.

I’m not criticising SS, just asking the club to think about those who do not have a choice. We do have a large number of elderly supporters and it’s not a further discount, as has been suggested.

You are criticising SS though TT ... You said that the £20 extra fee was 'morally wrong' and that it was 'targeting the vulnerable'... In both cases it's completely out of order to level that kind of accusation at the Club and SS's door, for simply implementing a largely positive change and retaining an archaic system for a nominal cost.

Oh and for anyone suffering with dry fingers and unable to type on a smartphone, there are a wide range of stylus type pens that will solve that problem no bother.

Wow you’re back again, I could almost hear you unzipping your pants in excitement.

It’s comical, in the past you’ve slated this Board about ticket pricing policy. You’ve responded to just about every one of my posts on here, bar the ones reminding you about your past criticism. I seem to recall you championed the argument about low disposable income in Blackpool.

I can’t ignore you, you’re just too amusing.

I'm not sure where you are getting the idea from that I've slated the board regarding Ticket Policy... Are you sure you're not thinking of @JJpool as I have mostly defended the Club's Ticketing Policy?

As I think I said, I don't have a problem with people objecting to ticket price increases as it's obviously a matter of personal interest and I can understand why people wouldn't want to or can't use a digital system, but I don't think it's at all fair to frame that in the terms you did (simple as that really).

Implying that older and vulnerable people are somehow the targets of a morally bankrupt policy is completely over the top and just doesn't reflect the situation at al.

The price of a Senior Ticket (including the £20 uplift) is still cheaper that a standard Adult ticket and our Season Ticket prices are reasonably priced.

All I've shown is a comparison of clubs in the area charging cheaper or offering more incentives.

We could have done more, it's not too much to ask for a price to help retain current ST levels, or be creative with extras like Wigan have, even though they haven't done anything special.

How many do you think we'll sell?

We had a bit over 8k, if we made the right noises, had appointed Dobbie, gone 299, I reckon we'd keep the majority of ST holders and get some new so could have got nearer 8k again.

If we sold 6.5k let's say, at 349 it's 2,268,500 and if we sold 7.5k at 299 it's 2,242,500, adult price for ease of comparison.

You might then sell less match ticket sales but they might also not turn up as much, also the amounts aren't huge overall in comparison to what a fuller stadium can bring, growing/retaining the fanbase and an increased likelihood of achieving success with more fans behind us more often.

The ticket price should be no higher than 24 for a club like us in league 1, Barnsley were £23/24 this season.

Again if we tapped into a feelgood factor we could have seen what our club is capable of when we do well at this level now.

We still can as if we are winning more often more people will turn up, but we're not putting much effort in to fill the stadium with pool fans.

No idea… Same as you 👍
What do you think will be a good number?

I think we had 6.5k is the past at this level but surely have grown since then.

I'd hope to surpass that, but think we could have retained the 8k pretty much with the right marketing, price, manager etc. Even surpassed it. The fanbase just got Dobbie.

I’ve genuinely no idea…. I don’t even know how many we have at the minute. I presume crowds will drop as they always tend to do in these circumstances.

Just catching up on all this now and it's been some thread.

Whether you agree with him or not, I think it's fair to say that the thread is all the better for Mary's contribution.

In fairness to you ‘slated’ was not the right word, and yes you have generally defended ticketing policy.

No, I wasn’t thinking of @JJpool.

You’re still avoiding answering direct questions about your contradicting views, including the prompt from @20togo. It’ll be easier if I answered the question for you, because this thread has run its course.

At almost exactly the same time last year, you (very reasonably) referenced the financial climate in Blackpool and the need for the club to try to look after those who are struggling. So, you demonstrated a caring and empathetic approach, which is great. You recognised that some of our fans might need a little extra help.

And yet you have jumped all over this thread with really poor comments, suggesting you couldn’t care less about those, who for whatever reason, are less fortunate or less able.

I simply asked the club to look at the policy for those who do not have the choice between digital & physical tickets. I don’t think it needed for you to post what you did in response. For you to assert that all our fans have equal capability & choice is misguided.

As I’ve said at least twice on this thread, I have @20togo on ignore and so more often than not, I don’t read or see his posts. I don’t wish to respond to him or engage with him (unless I can be bothered).

The problem with 20’s is he’s thick and so can’t grasp the basic difference between a contradiction and two quite different issues, hopefully you are t quite so daft, but let’s see…

Firstly, I am very well aware that many fans in Blackpool are on low incomes and that it is a deprived area. I’m also empathetic towards those individuals. I must admit, I can’t recall ever suggesting that the Club should ‘look after them’, but I certainly believe that the Club (in an ideal world) should try to accommodate low income families with a cheaper price option.

In the past I’ve suggested there might be a small section of the East or perhaps in the longer term a standing area. Of course, the Club do offer a cheaper option in the family stand.

As for Jumping all over this thread, I have already explained my primary objection and I’ve repeated myself several times already. However the issue (as I see it) is twofold:

Number 1… The portrayal of the elderly as sone kind of useless and incapable individuals who cannot use 15 year old technology.

Number 2…The ridiculous accusation of the club decision being ‘immoral’ and ‘targeting the vulnerable’… Which I viewed as OTT.

I also think that in this instance you and others are completely overplaying both the ‘physical’ and ‘cognitive’ issues that relate to the new system in order to try and emphasise a point. To that end (and I still maintain my point) the biggest obstacle for most over 65’s is a lack of willingness to embrace new technology as opposed to any mental or physical impairment…And I’m afraid that is a choice and not something the rest of society (or the football club) is responsible for.

(A classic example - A bloke on this thread mentioned his dad doesn’t pay by card…. Now card payments have been evolving and in action available for over of 50 years and not only that, but he’ll use a card to enter the ground… what’s the difference ??)

As I’ve already said, I do have empathy for any individual who might be vulnerable, suffering from any disability etc… It obviously make life very difficult for a whole range of reasons.. It’s possible in some circumstances a plastic card (as opposed to a digital ticket) may make their lives easier….. It is also possible that for others who have disabilities or challenges, that the Digital Option might prove to be beneficial.

Whichever way you look at it, however, the number of individuals who will genuinely be unable to manage the digital system (through no fault of their own) is likely to be extremely small…Probably small enough to be considered on a case by case basis.

As far as the Club is concerned and for the benefit of us all, it’s important that we embrace better technology… Whether that is for the benefit of the Team, improving the service in the bars and food kiosks or in the way tickets are sold.

In this case the Club has two main objectives…

1. It wishes to ensure everyone who can / will change to digital tickets does so as quickly as possible.

2. It needs to ensure that an alternative option exists to protect the kind of fans that you mention.

My question to you is how does the Club achieve those objectives without a price differential?

more condescending claptrap from @BFC_BFC_BFC .

He really is a supercilious prick who as I've said before deliberately takes the opposite pov to many others because he genuinely thinks he is more intelligent than everyone else. And of course he deliberately skates round answering direct questions because he's not got an answer. He deliberately posts antagonistic remarks about the older generation. This is a poster who said he doesn't put people on ignore because to do so is "weak minded". Contrary mary, always has been, always will be.

I doubt they’ll see the level of take up that we do… £4 isn’t a big enough differential to promote change.
contrary mary as per usual. As shown throughout this thread, he seems to have a massive problem or chip on his shoulder about the older generation. Wonder why that is? God help him, when he's older himself and maybe has to rely on others including his younger family to get him through. What a truly nasty stance he has adopted.

All Digital and Printed Onwards cards will incur a cost of £4 per ticket order.

So nothing to do with promoting change?

Of course it is. To say all our fans already have the season cards and can just be reactivated if they wish to
At £4, most fans will just decide they can’t be arsed changing and stump up the extra. At £20 people will be far more likely to opt for change…

My guess would be Fleetwood will see less than 50 % of people change, Blackpool will be over 80%.

Well there you go…. No reason at all for people to change. Most will carry on dumping plastic into the environment 👎

I’m absolutely disgusted with Sadler I think now I may have to change my allegiance to Fleetwood now and boycott under Sadler has gone just like I did all those years ago under Oyston.

I asked you the questions and you dodged them, so repeating that you are ignoring 20’s has nothing to do with your lack of response.

Nowhere have I portrayed the elderly as useless and if you had an ounce of sense you’d realise that would be ridiculous, given the point of my OP.

These are your words and you speak from a position of total ignorance. Have you worked with adult mental health teams and social workers for 7 years, or spent time in nursing homes or supporting the elderly in the very basics of living? Believe me, it’s an eye opener.

I summarised my position in my last post, copied below.

‘I simply asked the club to look at the policy for those who do not have the choice between digital & physical tickets’

How can you be so outraged by that! I am not advocating getting rid of the charge for fans that do have a CHOICE. It’s you that has introduced that into the thread, nobody else.

To answer your final question, I asked the club to think again about accessibility issues for the minority of fans who don’t have a CHOICE between digital & physical access to the ground.

YOU have portrayed this as me asking for the club to give them free tickets, which you would be subsiding. This seems rather at odds with your comments that the club should consider access for those on lower incomes. It’s a different matter, but it comes down to the same thing, focussing on fans who need special consideration. Whether it’s giving a free physical card or discounting a ticket for those on low incomes, there is some degree of financial impact on the club. In fact, what I am proposing for a small number of fans would have significantly less financial impact on the club.

You have blown it all out of proportion with ridiculous and uneducated statements. Just re-read some of your comments where you clearly got carried away. You lack the ability to keep to a rational argument.

Right, I’m off to the nursing home now. I’ll make sure to tell the residents that they need to try harder.

Well there you go…. No reason at all for people to change. Most will carry on dumping plastic into the environment 👎
What's the environmental cost of a mobile phone v. that of a small plastic card (which could be used for multiple seasons)?

Like 8000 of us having to dump our plastic cards in the bin now rather than reuse them for next?
This isn't about the environment it's about trying to stop you passing on your ST to others.

Seven in our group who pass it on to family and friends now have to get another 7 bits of plastic brilliant.👎

You have blown it all out of proportion with ridiculous and uneducated statements. Just re-read some of your comments where you clearly got carried away. You lack the ability to keep to a rational argument.

Right, I’m off to the nursing home now. I’ll make sure to tell the residents that they need to try harder.
What questions?

In answer to your first question, I deal directly with the trials and tribulations of Mental Heslth issues. I’ve dealt with that fir the past two decades, never mind a handful of years.

And yes, I’ve also supported elderly relatives and neighbours, dealt directly with the impact of dementia / Alzheimer’s, spent time with elderly people in nursing homes too.

Of course absolutely none of that bears any relevance whatsoever to my point on this thread.

I’m not outraged by you “simply asking the club to look at the policy for those who do not have the choice” …. In fact, if that’s what you’d actually done, I’d have simply not been motivated to comment. I’ve been very clear about where my objection lies.

The mobile phone is a multi-functional device…

It replaces debit & credit cards, all manner of tickets, is a phone, a means for business communication, access to social media, heslth records etc etc…

The cost to the environment is obviously much lower, than the use of loads of plastic. It ought to be obvious tbh.

As I said to someone else who struggled to think beyond the end of their noses, plastic can be recycled and doing so prevents the need to introduce new plastic into the environment. We benefit from all pointless and unnecessary cards being taken out of the system.

The Club has not yet announced how it intends to approach ticket transfers between family and friends. The evidence from other Clubs would suggest that you are incorrect.

I would imagine that preventing adults from using children’s tickets and ensuring away fans cannot access tickets through unscrupulous hoteliers, might be something the Club view as a benefit though.

....and contrary mary, accuses me of being thick. You really couldn't make it up.

Well Mary, I like that, I've just seen your answer to my post was deleted and you have indirectly accused a well informed and fair minded man of being bent. If the said gentleman is a censor for this site you have more info than I do. Just to add, I've had posts removed without explanation so you are not alone .

It appears since then you have continued to spout your rubbish and upset a number of other sensible posters.

Well done for the continued wind ups and on that note I will leave this thread as I have more important things to do than sit here all day.

Especially since 6 out of the 7(1 lost) have been using the same card since 2019 and they still work!
Saving the environment yeh right.
makes me wonder if the club did decide to alter the policy of this £20 charge because there's clearly many people unhappy with it whether contrary mary will go and chain himself to the clubs front door as a means of protest. 😉

And we still don't know what happens for season 24/25 will my card from this work do I have to pay another 20 to use it or get a completely new one.😁

Yep... bent as a nine basilbob note, when it comes to fair minded moderation. 😉

I've continued to express my opinion, which appears to conflict with your own and to put it bluntly, if people are upset by having their opinions challenged, then 'tough shit snowflake' would be my response. None of them are backward in coming forward with their own outdated and biggoted opinions and they deserve to be challenged, in the strongest possible terms.

I'm glad you've got other things to do and hope that you enjoy the rest of your day, doing whatever pleases you. I'm hoping to get a bit of landscaping in and perhaps paint my fence, if the weather stays nice.

I make no apology for attempting to add a bit of humour into the forum and for challenging what I consider to be unfair criticism of the Club.

I get the point about change but...

If say 250 people keep their cards, the old system will need to be retained. It will need to be retained to the point at which 0 people retain their cards, or it will very realistically require the ownership of a smartphone to be a season ticket holder.

That's a bit weird. Lots of people don't want to own a smartphone, old or young. Lots more do of course, but nonerheless, I find it a bit odd that.

It's like going into a pub and being told 'you can't tap your bank card, you have to use your phone'

I don't have my phone on me.

Can't have a pint then.

Why?

The future and that mate.

Eh?

What's the point of the change that BFC*3 is enthusiastically trumpeting. As far as I can tell, the result of the change would only ever result in a situation where access to the ground is narrowed...

Or is the £20 fee just to put people off and reduce the admin work of distribution of cards and not really anything to do with 'future' tech at all?

🤷

The main problem I have with it Matt is that 99.9% of the vulnerable groups it will impact the most will already have their cards.
So it's a money-making opportunity that's being implemented with no forethought for the people that will be adversely affected by it.

The environmental cost of a mobile phone.

Yes.. Recycling old phones is just as important as any other recyclable product

They’re just passing the benefit of the digital system on to the end user and applying a charge to reflect the cost of managing the older system.

It’s really not that difficult to understand tbh.

As ever thought we need to create a major incident out of it…. I’m sure people will move on when the next big incident (perhaps changing the lager supplier or a minor modification to the club badge) …

🥱🥱🥱

I used my phone last year and on one occasion my card. Both took the same amount of time.

Perhaps I’m missing something, but the technology already installed isn’t going to be replaced. On that basis there is nothing to be retained. We will always need the dual entry options that already exist, because of paper tickets. This is not about embracing new technology, because it’s already installed and has been in use. I believe it’s more to do with stopping fans sharing cards.
