2nd Ashes Test

I doubt there's a country in the world that wouldn't have Stokes in their side every time if he wasn't English.
The only problem with Stokes is he clearly isn't fit enough to play and so however good he is for the team, if he can't bowl and can't bat properly because of it he shouldn't be in the team until he is. We are also lacking any pace in our attack or a world class spinner so we are lacking in certain areas, we are also depriving the best w/k in the world who is also a really good bat, that should not be happening.

I don't blame Duckett or Pope, but Root just needs to play his game, he should never have got out like that, he needs to get his mindset back to how it used to be.

So, I would make a few changes, but we are lacking in depth so it's a hard call.

Seems to me that Tongue is the only one bowling with any great belief. Two or three changes needed to this side one way or another.

The pace area is frustrating as we know how good we would be IF we had Wood and Archer to call upon through this series.

That would be right, but it won't happen. Both JA and SB are safe because there may be a period where they can be matchwinners.
Well neither looking like match winners right now.
I love Jimmy to death don’t get me wrong he’s been up there with the worlds best bowlers over the years but I think his days are numbered now.
Australia 101/1 Khawaja hits another half century and already a lead of nearly 200.

Again, I don't disagree. I would have dropped him for Wood (if fit), but I don't think whoever picks the team will be brave enough, unless there is an injury niggle excuse.

I'd guess Jimmys big aim is to get to 700 test wickets and then he'd be happy to call it a day. He'd perhaps been hoping he could do it in this series but that is perhaps looking unlikely now. And of course how much he plays isn't down to him.

They will give us a target they think is chasable and we will get out chasing it.
Think they'll look to set 440+ in less than 4 sessions in the knowledge that Eng can't play traditional cricket and there's a hothead shot coming from just about every batter.

I think Jimmy will want to become the 2nd highest test wicket taker of all time, so 21 more required.
He's already the highest pace Bowler

Muralidaran 800
Warne. 708
Anderson 688

Like you say, game time won't be 100% down to him. I hope he gets chance to make it.

I dont Count Muralitharan as rules were change so he could continue to throw the ball rather than cause an international furore based on racism . If Jimmy can get past Warne then in my books he's No. 1 wicket taking Bowler

In fairness, he needs to bowl better then. Or play in favourable conditions.

He'll get at least 2 good hauls in the rest of the summer and could pass 700. But with no test cricket until next summer (unless I'm mistaken), this could be goodbye. I can't see him taking 21 in the remaining Ashes games.

Sadly I think you're right
I haven't seen much of the series so far (away last week and work this week), but he hasn't looked up to his high standards from the highlights.

I might be wrong, but he has always been the main threat and most likely to be given the ball, moreso than Broad, so was always going to get the wickets (not disrespecting JA here) ahead of lesser seamers. Now he's more of a 1 of 4/5, so numbers you'd think would be down as a result.

Either way he's been a great servant to the game and, if as I think, he'll receive a rousing send off at The Oval. He deserves a home send off and all the fuss that will be created as a result. Then come Jan 1, arise Sir James is almost more of a certainty than him getting 4+ wickets in an inns.

A lack of pace against top class batters is our problem. Jimmy or Broad with Archer and Wood if both fit would shake them up a bit

bazball is getting silly now and backfiring ! all good playing postivie but some of the shots against the short balls / falling for obvious traps was laughable! somewhere between Sibley and Bazzball is perfection...

Well that was pretty poor today, agree with the majority of comments made throughout the day but having just watched the highlights on another day we could if ended up in a much in a much better position than we did

WGA

The coach needs to instill better tactics, ok to attack when appropriate but when they need to bat sensibly they must. We need to go into the third test just one down to take advantage of the Lyon injury

English Dad and holds UK citizenship.

He's also fast as fuck and something the Aussies rarely face these days. He fucked Smith over four years ago.
He should have only been eligible this summer but the ECB changed the rules to get him playing in 2019, I think or 2018.

Our bowlers going for 4 after 4 not had a sniff yet after half an hour.

Big score coming here methinks can’t even see us getting them out so a declaration mid afternoon is my guess.

Lead already 247 only going one way this test match.

The Aussies are bouncing along nicely, surely it must be obvious that the bouncers aren’t good enough and they’re just going to duck easily under them every time.

If we don’t bat for a draw and try to Bazball our way to a win then we might aswell concede the ashes now.

Dear me we have been garbage this morning. Bairstow is all over the place and our inaccurate medium pace dibblers are an embarrassment against these two top level batsmen.

It's a real shame to see Jimmy's decline. He fields like an ex pro now. I really hope he can have one last blast of a career of brilliance. Hopefully knock the Aussie tail over. I'd fancy us to chase anything to, say, 370.

The Aussies are flapping now . . . now down to the rabbits. :)

Come on England we can win this. A couple more before lunch 👍

If I was JA I think I'd announce my intention to retire at the end of the series after this game. That way he's more likely to keep his place for the rest of the series just so the public can say goodbye.
