5th TEST

Now Woody joins the party. England, helped by the 'new' ball and conditions are making it count. Smith is the big wicket, get him and we are well in the hunt for all 10 wickets today.
 
Poor stuff from Anderson as this Aussie pair start to score quickly. We need a wicket before lunch, get one of these and hopefully we can come out after lunch and press for the win.
 
That is exactly the kind of thing that's really cost us this series. We've been very careless, and missed a lot of opportunities because of it - which you can't do against Aus and expect to win.

Agree. Wouldn't be surprised if they get cited though - it's like trying to argue with efl refs and traffic wardens

Aye, 2hrs of rain expected, then another 45mins to clear it up. I think that rules England out of the win and just down to how much time is left for the Aussies to knock off the 140 odd.
 
Typical. 40 minutes of cucumber sandwiches then out they come to rain that anyone with a weather app could predict. 🙄
 
One thing the rain in the last two Tests have shown us is that something needs to be done about it in this country, we cannot carry on having Test series ruined by the awful weather we have in the UK.

Now obviously we can't get a roof on a ground in the way Wimbledon have done to counteract the rain, but as a bare minimum we should look to add one or possibly two extra days to future Tests to give them a much better chance to get a result.

This series has been absolutely class, but how much better would it have been if we'd had the advantage of extra days at both Old Trafford and the Oval, time for the ECB to get their thinking caps on and do the right thing.

Presumably ICC has to be part of the decision making but the World Test Championship has a reserve day, so there's clearly precedent.

I think one argument against certainly 2 reserve days is the state of the pitch on day 6 and 7. I'm in favour of a Day 6, but in all truth if they bowled 90 overs a day it wouldn't need a Day 6 most of the time.
 
Smith is a good batsman but a lucky one too. Could have been out a couple of times already but there he is.
 
Carey has been poor all series. Cummins and Starc can do plenty of damage but if we can just get one more a real chance of a few quick ones to follow. Marsh has been pretty solid since coming in this series annoyingly though. Really shored up the middle replacing Green
 
Crawley caught it then threw it away. Was he fully in control of the ball and his body? He was stumbling forward if you ask me 😉
