5th TEST

Fitting end but there's still a bitter taste that we declared too early in the 1st and threw the 2nd test away with stupid batting.
We could and should have won the ashes .
Fantastic series though, entertaining to the end👍🏻

Brilliant serirs we coukd have w9n but daft stuff got in the way. Like no Woakes and Wood first two tests. Rain. Wicket keeping.

A declaration! Come on who argued with me?! 😀

There was some tut-tutting about Broad announcing his retirement and it getting the coverage it did but this is what sports is about, and if you've watched him play over his career you know he feeds off such emotion. A man for the big moments come up big time again. Well done Mo, well done Woakes. Take a bow Broad

Proof, it were still needed, that test cricket will always be the best form of the game. Loved this series, it's been very unpredictable, and a great way to end.

Note: By the time the next ashes in England come around in 2027, it'll have been 26 years since they last won a series here. A fair chunk of the Australian population will need to ask their parents what it was like 🤣

We could and should have won the series, it took the first two tests for us to realise that.

His dad's still a cock though, slinking off to South Africa all those years ago and leaving us in the lurch. And wearing salmon pink trousers . Just thought I'd throw a bit of shade as this mass celebration is is just too much 😀🏏

Hits a 6 for his last ball as a batsman and takes a wicket as his last ball as a bowler. That's some nice scriptwriting.

Cracking series between 2 different but evenly matched sides.

Sets up everyone for the Hundred...

yep truly fantastic series. Hope that McGrath can show a bit of humility in his column after his prediction of a Aussie whitewash.

Great series between probably the two best teams in the world at the moment. It seems farcical though that the weather ultimately determined who would win the Ashes. Surely this needs to be looked at. I'm pretty sure that a reserve day had been arranged for the World Test Championship Final in case of bad weather, so why not extend that to all test matches?

Some player Mitchell Starc is by the way.
There's plenty of quality on offer in their attack. I'm surprised Boland didn't play at least one more game. Lyon getting injured was a big moment but we also couldn't play Wood all 5 games and never have Jofra. Or Pope...😉

By the way Kurt, I think it's pretty ironic that in this set up, your mate hasn't had a chance. He's the best domestic white ball batsman by miles and would be a good fit as a Bazball number 3 I reckon.

Yep, agree and he's at an age where the mentality won't come into it. Still got 4/5 years left yet!

Funny how Stoksie said he was bowling off spin now. I know he's been bowling it in the nets. If he can re-invent himself as an off spinner that would be pretty exciting.

Just a brilliant series, 2 very evenly matched teams, Woakes the Broad replacement, who will replace Jimmy?

As a casual follower who got completely engrossed in this Ashes...do we have anyone coming through to replace the likes of Anderson, Broad et al? Woakes and Wood are in their 30's no?

The first Ashes I've followed ball by ball by 2005, and loved the Bazball approach, but do we have green shoots to carry this on?

Woakes is more likely to 'replace' Jimmy in bowling terms, but he's a well established member of the England squad and would get loads of game time in home series where he's always been a quality bowler. That would be the same if the others were fit and still playing.

Matty Potts and Josh Tonge are probably the Broad 'replacements'.

Would be ridiculous and typical if Stokes reinvented his bowling element as a proper spinner and took wickets.

Decent series for sure but can’t help but feel it’s been a rushed spectacle this time, five tests in six weeks, a bit bizarre really.
Bigger gaps between games builds the anticipation.

As a series, Eng can think they were unlucky with the catches etc, but they had a chance to change that. Aus have been unlucky with the conditions, especially this game. 135-0 and rain. The ball change.

And then today.

Broad should be banned from the game for what he did with the bails, he's no right to touch them and the Umpires? Same old...Always cheating in favour of Eng.

What an absolutely class series and to think without the pesky Manchester rain or if the ICC had the brains to include a spare day on the Monday for unfinished Test, we'd have come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Great finish to Broad's incredible Test career, to walk off at the Oval in front of your family and friends after taking the last wicket to win the final Ashes Test to level the series is as good as it gets.

Thanks for so many great memories Broady.

I love cricket and to think I have seen some epic test series in this country v Australia has been a real priviledge - We've seen more toptastic series then there's been in 100 years previous and long may it continue

We've beaten Australia at their own game of bully boy, up the tempo cricket - they know this, and some may admit it - to be a class act though we need to do it away - let's face it Australia were on the whole boring and defensive the more so it went on.

Hope everyone enjoyed - breath taking sport

They're now saying that the Aussies are playing traditional test cricket and will have to adapt. The biter bit.
