Agenda driven news headlines

BBC Headline; "UK Economy shrinks 9.9% largest on record"

Daily Mail "UK avoids double dip recession with 1% growth in Q4"

Both factually accurate but paint an entirely different picture.

Both piss is the same bucket and are bad as each other for journalism.

Don't read the Mail only bits for free but really gone off the BBC News the last year.

The country is in lock down, economically its at standstill (apart from construction) Even by the Mail standards it's an odd stance to claim hollow growth. The travel industry, hospitality and entertainment sector, shop keepers are not interested in the technicalities of avoiding a double dip recession.

Went onto BBC news before and it was there at the top “Breaking News - UK economy shrinks blah blah blah”

How is this breaking news? There’s been a global pandemic and many lockdowns in a year, it doesn’t take a genius to work out the finance side of things won’t be too healthy with so much shut.

Swear some of the MSM love delivering gloom news.

I don't watch the BBC news anymore and haven't done for a long time. Did anybody see the Panorama programme Virus v Vaccine.
It was all about how the virus was winning the race, how short we were on vaccines and how we hadn't ordered enough etc etc
What has actually turned out is the exact opposite. But of course the BBC as usual got it totally wrong. And anyone watching that programme would have thought there is no hope for the future, when in fact there is plenty of hope.
The BBC are an utter disgrace.

And the Mail headline is a true picture

No, it was your ‘The BBC is an utter disgrace’ remark

It made you sound like a red-faced, retired Colonel from another era
Well I'm not a red faced retired colonel from a another era. But thanks for your intelligent, well structured reply. Being a Tory and a Brexitier must actually be quite easy at the moment. Brexit done and a whopping 80 seat majority. You haven't really thought that through have you?

All national news media have a political angle, some more obvious than others. The Heil is, of course, a house broadsheet for the Tory Party, the Torygraph likewise. The Murdoch stable is more sly......setting its sails firmly to the right but with an occasional jib to the left when the Tories have upset them. The Express is just so much bog-roll and the Star is a lads comic. On the left, The Mirror tends to stick with Labour, the Graun is more intellectually left of centre but has to pin its hopes on the Labour Party as it is the only left-of-centre mainstream party that can realistically form a Government; the greens are too small. The Morning Star is, of course, a house journal of the far left.
Perhaps the most honest paper is the FT: Capitalist by raison d'ertre it will tack centre-left when it feel that this is the better hope for the economy.

just Watched the Panorama programme, first aired on January 11th

Not one single criticism of the government or government policy from the presenter. Only criticism was government track record has led to lack of confidence. This from the head of an Independent fee-paying school

Please explain the angst

There have been several Panorama programmes on the vaccine and the virus. Maybe you've watched a different one. The one I watched was speculating that the virus was winning and we wouldn't be able to win the race as the vaccine supplies wouldn't be able to keep pace. It was very doom and gloom. In fact watching it was like reading a BHOK post on here.

3 GE on the bounce.... out of the EU ... according to the Guardian Boris leads Kier in the polls... yep truly awful 😁👍
"3 GE on the bounce"

Let's see. After the Tories failed to win an election since 1992 they swept back into power in 2015 with a majority of...err 12.
Retaining 1 Scottish seat into the bargain.
So, Saint Theresa needed to increase that slim majority in 2017 if her Brexit plan was to get through the Commons. After all, she had to be able to get enough votes to cover both the opposition total and those of the ERG traitors in her own party...oh, and that of Boris (I'm in it for myself) Johnson. Result!....a hung Parliament with the Opposition holding a majority of 6 (that's not counting Sinn Fein). What to do? Got it.....bribe the DUP with cash that otherwise didn't exist to help take children out of poverty.

So yes, Newholland, 3GE on the bounce - just as you remember it.

You're quite correct 1966. They haven't technically 'won' 3 on the bounce. But Labour have pretty much lost 3 on the bounce. Two of them due to the Corbyn effect. They'll have a better chance at the next GE than they've had for a long time.

I look forward to the two new right wing news channels starting in the UK in the next couple of months.

Apparently ‘Momentum’ want to start a news channel as well now - but nobody with any cash will back them 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I was with you for some of that Rusty. I know that the 2010 GE isn't part of this discussion but both Labour and the Conservatives 'lost' that one, with the Quisling Lib Dems opting to go with Cameron. Back to the story though and Labour got a massive vote in 2017. Corbyn did miles better than he was expected to do. The only reason the Tories were in a position to bribe the DUP was because Ruth Davidson clawed back 10 (?) Scottish seats. However, it was, of course, Labour's failure in Scotland that kept them out in 2017.

Nope, definitely the same one, Virus v Vaccine. There was no speculation that the virus was winning nor was there any suggestion that we wouldn’t win the race. It was gloomy, yes, but was simply presenting a picture of Britain in the first week of January. Hospitals at breaking point, schools closing, a further national lockdown. It all happened, Rusty. Believe it.

Yes a picture of doom and gloom. Anyone watching that would have been left in despair. The one I watched mentioned the vaccine not being able to keep up with the pace of the virus spread. So maybe it was a different one, and if it was I'll hold my hands up there. But I still stand by my opinion that the BBC get far more wrong than they do right.

The Lib Dem’s seriously shot themselves in the foot, taking out both legs and most of the torso in the process, when they formed a coalition with the Tories

But ‘Quisling’, really. I think you know that you’ve over-egged the pudding on that one unless, of course, you’re a rabid left wing socialist, in which case shouts of ‘Hang Nick Clegg, Hang Nick Clegg’ as you invaded the Houses of Parliament wouldn’t go far enough

Yes they got a massive vote in 2017. Mainly down to Corbyn offering young people everything for free, and it being seen as trendy to support a left winger amongst the metropolitan 'elite' in my opinion . Massive, but nowhere near massive enough to get in to power. My honest opinion is that both the main parties leave a lot to be desired. It's about time this two party system was broken. But sadly it isn't going to happen

I must admit, since early January I’ve avoided all news wherever possible. I mainly listen to the radio and I’ve got it sorted. I usually listen to 5 live and talk sport, when their top of the hour news comes on I slip over to 6 Music, their news is half past the hour.

The two aspects of the pandemic that have got me down the most are the news, and the panic buying at the beginning of it all when all shelves were bare.

It’s on iplayer and 28 minutes long, Rusty. Watch it again and back up your claims with facts. South Shore summed up your attitude so succinctly,

‘I find the BBC very politically biased..........whenever it happens to represent a view contra to mine.

And in another post I've quite clearly said -
I actually think the BBC is neutral. They're equally bad for both sides and get so many things wrong.
So maybe it's you who should start getting your facts right

😁 yep Wiki says “ winning party “ Red refers to the Tory party ...so yep that’s how I remember it👍

I’m not so sure Keith will get back in next time Rusty. They need to move a long way away from the party of the liberal elite for that to happen. I won’t be surprised if they continue to ignore the working class of the UK. If you like a good book read Despised by Paul Embery. Puts a lot of their problems into perspective.

Typical, Rusty. Preaches about about the lack of debate but the moment his view is challenged, deflects more rapidly than a beach ball in Sunderland

No I'm not sure they will either. But surely they'll never have a better chance. But to do so I think the kneeler will have to up his game considerably. I'll take a look at that book 👍

I'll have a debate with you about anything at any time. As long as you promise to stop talking down to people in that self righteous, pompous manner of yours. So go ahead. What do you want to debate?

No one of any mildly extreme political persuasion thinks the BBC is neutral, I would imagine it's because those on the far ends of politics are generally paranoid wankers.

The BBC's coverage of the EU referendum and the associated issues was very balanced and not agenda driven in the slightest.

The BBC are an utter disgrace.
Just back this up with some facts, even if you have to take 28 minutes out of your busy life to watch the programme again on iplayer.

I say that you have completely misrepresented the programme to suit your own agenda.

And I say I haven't. Yes maybe it was another panorama programme I was thinking of, and in a previous post I've said I'll hold my hand up if that's the case.

Its my view that 'Momentum' (as was or is) are in control of the Football Supporters Association, given how they run it and the fact that meetings are sometimes held at Trade Unions' offices in London.

Not a problem for me but as thousands of ordinary 'members' have found in both organisations, they just cant get a voice on the agendas or direction.

That would be genuinely sad if true 😟

Brexit done? How come Gove wants a two year extension? Asking for a friend...
