UK advises 'against all but essential travel' to parts of Spain
The UK Foreign Office has updated its advice for people planning trips to parts of Spain.
It says it is "advising against all but essential travel" to five areas:the regions of Madrid, La Rioja, and the municipalities of La Bastida, Vitoria and Miranda de Ebro.
"Airlines are continuing to run flights as normal to and from these areas,” the new advice adds.
It comes after Spain reported 36 deaths in the past 24 hours – and the number of cases is rising fast, especially in Madrid, with almost 2,000 people infected.
Meanwhile, four towns have been quarantined in the Catalonia region of north-eastern Spain under government order in an attempt to halt the spread of coronavirus.

Why advise against travel but allow flights to continue? It puts people in the position of not getting their hard earned money refunded. I'm in the position of supposedly going to Portugal in 4 weeks time. I'd prefer to cancel it now, but if I pull out voluntarily I lose 3 grand.

Tenerife booked for first week in May. First holiday abroad with my father in decades.
He's in his 70's with mild emphysema, so looks very unlikely. His health is just too important
to put at risk. I would still choose to go personally though.

Sadly, the workers-from travel agents through to hotel staff-are going to be affected terribly

Martin Lewis (money expert) says he would not consider booking a holiday for at least the next 3 months..... I see summer holiday chaos.

4 weeks today cycling from St Malo to San Sebastian in Spain then flying back from Bilbao. Then running the London Marathon 😨😨😨😨

Off to Munich 5/8 and Albufeira 27/9 hopefully. The flights are booked with EJ and l received an email from them yesterday saying they are waiving all flight change fees, but any change in flight costs will have to be paid should they increase.

In Portugal at the moment, on the plus side weather fabulous.... But just over the last couple of days

Hey I'm off there on 26/9....... Hopefully things may have calmed down by then and we will be on the other side of this apolitical nightmare. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Borders all over Europe being closed, I wouldn’t advise it.

I have a Eurostar voucher that had to be used before the end of June. I deliberately booked a 3 day trip to Ghent in Belgium a couple of days ago for late June. That was to make the booking before any travel restrictions were imposed and before the insurance companies start refusing travel insurance (Direct Line and Churchill have done that today). So the booking was just timed right because it covers me if I am forced to cancel or rearrange

Well I was supposed to go to Malta on Sunday for a week, but the Maltese government have said anyone going in to their country has to go into quarantine for fourteen continuous days, so that’s bolloxed that !

4 holidays booked already this year (the most I've ever had planned at one time)… all at risk now...

Fueteventura for a week from 21st March
Malaga for a week in early June
Italian Alps mountaineering in July (flying to Geneva initially though so could switch to the French or Swiss Alps if need be)
2 weeks Mediterranean cruise from Naples in August (would be our first one).

All of these booked partly to celebrate early retirement and I will currently lose about £1500 if all are cancelled (decisions to be made about paying the balance or not on the cruise and Malaga in May).
However, people are dying and many others will lose far more than £1500 because of their work losses.
So I need to keep it in perspective. Anyway, hopefully things will get better fairly soon...🤨

Barcelona with 3 old pals booked for 27/04 for 3 nights then flight to Holland for a few days - all done independently- until today thought we would be fine - just difficult to call - to continue with plans or cancel leave etc .
Dismissed reports as hysteria but more doubtful now

We are supposed to be off to France (Carcassone) next Friday for a week, then Turkey in June and ROI in July. It feels like the airline companies are playing 'chicken' with their customers at the mo.

Meant to be going to portugal in about a month.
Not sure now.
Good thing is i have only booked flights & easyjet have said you can change for free. They were cheap anyway so not a big deal.
However if i had booked apartment or hotel (most of the outlay )non refundable I wouldnt be happy.

In the last hour I've just had an email from my travel insurance company saying that as of the 13 March the Corona virus is a "known event" so anything I book after that date will not be covered if I have to cancel because of it. In a way I suppose that's reasonable.

Was due to got to Krakow on 15th April now very much in jeopardy - £700 gone booked and paid for Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bali going on the 10th May - not a chance and another £3000 down plus over £6000 down on shares in the past 2 weeks - far from happy but at least non of my family are ill which is the main thing 👍

Stupidity if anyone does.

Err not now...just nail it in October😉
Yeah just swapped my Travelodge to October only cost a fiver and hopefully be able to change Trains. Just booked the Blackpool Marathon which is run on the same day as the London one was originally. Hopefully it wont get cancelled

I am here in Spain near Alicante everything was pretty low key until 48 hours ago now as from midnight all bars restaurants closed for rest of March. Rumour of total lock down next week. Locals say it is people from Madrid fleeing to holiday home.

I live on the Costa Calida in Murcia. All bars and restaurants have been closed for two weeks from midnight last night. Murcia is one of the lesser affected areas but the population has been boosted by holiday home owners from Madrid "invading" the area to get away from virus affected Madrid. And what happens? They have brought the virus with them!!

Away from tomorrow for 5 days, only going to Lincoln and Norwich, If there is the slightest twinge we will immediately come home, nearly booked to go to Bruges but changed my mind thank goodness. Family Holiday booked for the end of July (Whitby). Hoping all will be fine by then as it will affect seven of us if not.

Just cancelled my cruising debut for June, before final invoice due, (Venice and Croatian Coast). TUI allowed me to transfer the deposit for another holiday provided I booked it now. Nothing to lose (or pay) so booked an all inclusive in the Canaries in late November.

New York in May hotel not yet paid
Majorca in May all paid for
Belgium in June flights only paid

Few weeks away but with the escalation all at risk

Norfolk is the only county with no confirmed cases of the virus. Hope all goes well.
