Blackpool improvements - Tons happening

There's a lot happening in Blackpool with new developments, regeneration etc.

One of the key tourist routes into Blackpool is by train, you can see some of the improvements here... Talbot gateway, new shop fronts and buildings rendered etc. Talbot Square looking good. It's getting there.

Turtle Bay on the way to that area too.

New ambulance hub is looking good.

More trees planted every year finally greening places up.

Maybe someone got a tad carried away with the new Lytham... but good to see Highfield Road doing well.

Blackpool Central coming on...

The revoe sports pitches are due not far off and the new east stand will improve the area.

Work is underway on the new civil service building, one part of increasing footfall in town to help businesses.

The Multiversity is planned... bringing huge educational benefits and more footfall.

The museum is another thing coming soon.

New attraction...

There's a new arcade near to the Tower where the old woolworths used to be.

New look Abingdon Street market.

Any more? Probably missed loads of smaller things. Please add to the thread.
You'll be wanting to move back 😂

By far the biggest improvement in Blackpool for decades, is the new-look promenade, though it won't be long will it be before some of the wokies decide that parts of the comedy carpet are deemed offensive and demand parts to be removed?🥴

I'll tell you what is offensive though - that big, black, dirty building on the promenade, opposite the Albert & Lion.
This monstrosity was supposed to be a 5* hotel. LOL
It's still not finished , about 5 years later.
Probably ran out of money.

They missed a massive opportunity with the casino bid...if that had come off and not been scuppered by do gooders then the place would be buzzing now with massive investment and it would have returned to being the entertainment capital of the UK...So short sighted to not see the value of what they so nearly had. That said we would very probably still have Captain Rapey and his goon family at the helm of Blackpool FC.
The casino bid was scuppered by other towns and cities (Manchester, Liverpool etc) trying to muscle in on the hard work put in by Blackpool council and it's partners and take the plan for themselves. The fighting over who should pick the carcass of little Blackpool got messy and the Gov pulled the plug!

Wasn't that building a scheme from Peter Swan, Oystons mate from Scunny?

sadly, I have to say, that Blackpool looks worse every year. There's just so much of it which needs flattening. Yes, I know away fans sing it's a shithole but even though it's our shithole they are right. I've recently walked down Lytham rd, Waterloo rd and Bond St and then in North Shore around Dickson Rd and it's bad, it really is.It needs billions throwing at it to get it back to it's former glory. That's the sad truth. And we all know that's not gonna happen.
I understand what you are saying, and yes those areas are looking really run down, however the vast majority of the buildings along those roads are PRIVATELY owned, and as such it is down to those owners to maintain their buildings and make them presentable. Why should the council spend my council tax maintaining someone else's property because they won't do it themselves. What really needs to happen is for the council to serve notice of improvements on these owners and landlords who are collectively dragging the place down, and if they don't take action within a specific timeframe then they lose the property. Problem solved.

I used to go to a nightclub in that old building on the top floor. They had a pizza takeaway inside the nightclub too. Often got a pizza and walked to south shore via central drive then st. Anne’s drive.
oh yeah

yep, I realise that but thie problem is still there whoever owns the properties. And of course the council will have some sort of power to force private owners to maintain the properties to some sort of standard and then there is such thing as compulsory purchase orders. But as I made the point this will cost billions and it ain't ever gonna happen so the problem is just gonna get worse.

The new developments are quite impressive but to improve Blackpool as a whole it's more to do with attracting the right jobs and right people. The new Civil Service offices will be a big help but another must is a large University of the Fylde (or whatever you want to call it). Universities bring in young people striving to improve their job propects. For too long Blackpool has attracted the wrong element, dropouts and junkies who basically want to live off benefits.

It's been a bit delayed by coming on.

Which is what's happening, the 'Multiversity' that's mentioned in the thread and planned to happen fairly soon.

That’s also the home of the new Blackpool museum and I believe the council are paying rent to the owners for the privilege.
I sometimes wonder if the hotel will ever open

What a great photo, I've been trying to work out where this multiversity was going since they announced it.

As someone else said above one of the biggest problems blackpool has is that young capable people have to leave the town because their prospects are bleak otherwise. Which results in cheap low quality housing fit only for the least capable being drawn to thee town.

Hopefully what this development will bring is private investment demolishing as much of the decaying houses to be replaced by student accommodation. There's 2 candidate blocks immediately behind the new building shown.

Yeah and it shows the map on th 1st link.

So it'll be right near that new impressive looking dwp building.

That Talbot area will look pretty good then with the Sainsburys, council buildings, Holiday Inn, dwp, multiversity etc

It hopefully does solve that issue of some who move away for that. Also what it does is increase the footfall along with the dwp office, in the town centre, allowing more businesses to thrive all year round and a thriving town centre is obviously good.

There will then no doubt be scope to redevelop some areas for student accommodation.

Blackpool Council seem to be against what seemed an almost universally popular idea 🙄
Hatch in Manchester is good, as is the Baltic Triangle in Liverpool. Daft to reject this when there's so many low quality food places already on the Prom.

Seems a shame to refuse it, the nonsense about obesity.. who's to say it's all unhealthy and since when did that stop something popping up.

"The trio plan to source fresh food from local suppliers, and say the scheme would create up to 80 jobs with proposals also for a college link up to train potential chefs."

"The food will be top quality using fresh ingredients so people will leave saying they want to come back tomorrow.”

That from the initial article.

Taco bell opening near Bloomfield, I'm happy about that, but why if the council are so conscious of obesity 🙄

Looks like work is starting at foxhall village.

They seem to be knocking it down and will start from scratch.

Also now there is the fenced area up around the revoe sports village pitches owned by the club, but also the bit next to it, which on the original plans had pitches on but is excluded from the current plans.

So it seems things are beginning to happen there.

The Revoe development is major as it’s a piece in the jigsaw to improve Central Drive and eventually link up with the leisure development. It’s also not on the seafront or town centre which understandably sees most investment.

Yeah not sure when that side is starting, the Blackpool Central kind of improves that area, as the old picture house and the buildings with the joke shop in currently are massively improved and a nice square is created behind the picture house.

Also the revoe sports village ties into the other end of this area, just off central drive, that is happening and will improve part of that end.

But central drive itself I don't think it'll be too far off. It's in the Council's plans and theyll want to do it as soon as they can, but things do take time with funding etc.

This council never listen to the good residents of this once great town .

Well, if they deem it not the right location, hopefully it happens elsewhere. Other versions do look better and like more permanent buildings, like the one in Manchester etc. But it was probably so it was movable like it needed to be because United utilities need access to tanks under the site.

Oh well, a wasteland it'll remain...

Agree with this, although as others have said, maybe better if it was more central.
Well, they've ignored the concerns of the officers and gone with it there. It'll be good for the area tbh.

It's meant to offer from "Thai and Mexican to Spanish tapas and wood fired pizza"

Should be a good range of different foods.

I always get excited when people talk our town up The biggest issue we have is negativity
Yeah it's always good to hear.

It's a big year for change with a lot happening but more on the horizon.

I'd like to know where the 3k homes are going, I know some will be in Marton moss, which isn't yet densely populated, I know they'll add some but try and keep the feel of the area as it is.

They could do with knocking down some poor quality housing in inner areas and building new there.

The Whyndyke garden village on the edge of Blackpool is yet to take off, but part of that will be in Blackpool Council area, the rest Fylde.

You'd presume he meant 3k in Blackpools boundary.

Also some news on the newly done market food hall, vendors confirmed.

Neighbourhood subs, NYC-style deep-filled sandwiches, relocating from Birley Street.
Pizza rana (wood-fired pizza)
Flipadelphia ( American diner, burgers etc)
Tuk tuk punjabi soul food
Nomad and public, new bar from the guys behind dirty blondes etc.
R coffee, coming from Ansdell

Sounds good to me. 👍

Blackpool will transform in the next ten years and as AVFTT resident property guru, I think prices will be at least double in ten years. Wobbling this year though so could be a good time to buy.

Not sure about doubling, but things will definitely improve and as they do it'll become more desirable.

Youre absolutely right, the floor is shocking I thought they were trying to lift up the standards in the town centre?

That said I think this is a really good development and somewhere I will be using in future. Lets hope they manage the scrotes or it'll kill the place.

I am still hoping that the super casino based in South Shore may one day be revived that would help solve a lot of problems there. Blackpool is perfect for that venture.

It was a little better in person today, however, it would look way better painted or whatever.

So it's nicely done the market, bar the floor.

Now onto the experience.

So you sit at the table and scan the qr code, up comes the site with all the food venues there.

You order from there and it's delivered. Quite easy and smooth when it works.

Only issue is, as regular mobile data users at Bloomfield road will know, is that my and many other peoples phones internet is crap in crowded places, so was painfully slow.

Infact I had to use my Mrs phone and some people next to us couldn't get on so didn't order.

No cash accepted which is not great for older people etc. I don't mind myself as I can do it but this rush to digital only isn't necessarily great imo.

I went for pulled pork loaded chips with bacon and cheese from cowboy and co. It was OK. Massive portions but I wouldn't have that again tbh.

The pizzas looked great and were coming faster than other food, I'd get that next time, burgers looked great on a video I've seen and hotdogs looked decent. Didnt see much esle near me but there's some decent looking places tbf, I just wasn't that hungry, so went woth what was a snack... but ended up with a huge portion anyway.

Overall it's a decent addition.

However there was a fair bit of food coming to tables and blank expressions, so not their food. Need to iron that out.

It was very busy obviously on such a day and main opening day so you've got to let them get used to it I guess.

The tables aren't particularly comfortable and without a back support, also I got whacked a couple of times by passing people given the proximity of the tables, a minor annoyance, but tbh the jokes on them as I wear my anti vandal paint t-shirt for such people who invade other people's personal space. 😀

But again overall a positive addition.

You need a QR code?

What about all the pensioners who can't get into Bloomfield Rd because they can't use a phone? Can they pay £20 to see a card menu?
