Blackpool improvements - Tons happening

You need a QR code?

What about all the pensioners who can't get into Bloomfield Rd because they can't use a phone? Can they pay £20 to see a card menu?
They are on the table, scan them and up pops the site.

You order from there. No 20 quid for the menu 😏

Can't imagine those old ST holders who don't like digital will like it...

You should really get an order number when you order, as with the food coming round, yes technically it'll come to your table, but it would help to have that even digital order number incase it doesn't come maybe.

I suppose the good thing is I think if you go with a family you can add in stuff from all different places into the basket and order under 1 payment.

Infact I've got the site I'm my history so here it is.

Only showing 3 vendors now. Maybe because i havent scanned it or they're closed. But you can see how you add in stuff and order.

Having revisited the app it does tell you the wait time too, which I didn't see as my mrs did it.

I see that the hotel (at the old, drab Wilkinsons building) next to the railway station has been delayed again.
Should be ready about now.

The latest estimate is now Easter 2024.😲

Yeah had some issues with cladding, now resolved.

That dwp building near by will be massive and is going to be interesting to watch go up, they're already well on with the concrete core.

Also, as for new hotels... saw this...

The new hotel render for the St Chad's site.

It'd be nice to see some trees on the front, although it's a bit of a hostile area in winter, so they might not thrive, but if they use the right species and anchor it correctly, should see them through winter and get them established...

I hear some action is finally being taken between the council and the entrepreneur whom they loaned millions, to build that big, ugly black monstrosity, that was supposed to be a 5* hotel (lol), next to the Albert and Lion on the promenade.

And how many years has that scaffolding been outside the front of Brannigans?
Must be around 3 years now !

Talbot gateway would look immeasurable better if a few trees were planted.
There was some in the initial pictures near the holiday Inn, but thnen agaik there was also initial buildings too. But near where the trams go in, maybe it's a later phase.

At the dwp office and the Multiversity there will be some, that's still kind of called as the gateway, later phases. It'll look really good round there as it'll be like a new square.

But they could do with some around the station side.

What's the action?

Not sure what's going on there tbh.

If Blackpool want to improve anything this next year, it’s the road system.
Change the Prom back to how it was, for a start.
Then get rid of those ridiculous bus only lanes and stealth fines.
It'll never happen, far more visually appealing now, if not as practical.

I’ve said it before, but the very least that the prom needs is to replace all the zebra crossings with pelican crossings - give the cars a chance for God’s sake!
So bloody blatantly obvious Johnno. When a tram stops & the fuckers cross in dribs & drabs. Makes you wonder if whoever manages the prom highway planning actual lives in the town.

It’s all about attracting more people into the centre Workers from the offices will spend money and attract private investment
No they won't.

Do you expect all the workers to have their dinner at greggs? Where are the decent eating establishments?
How are these workers expected to get into town? Extortionate parking fees and an antiquated transport system counter act that. Bus diversions during illuminations season adds loads of time to a journey!!
Plus a hell of a lot of the civil service workers (who they want to move from Warton) don't live in Blackpool and travel quite a few miles without having to go an extra 9!!

As usual things not thoroughly thought through by the council (not for the first time)

The more the facilities improve, the greater the footfall. The greater the footfall, the more attractive the town becomes to the hospitality industry. Create the demand and the services will follow.

In an ideal world yeh but there are still plenty of empty shops in the town centre.
I'm sure all the workers don't want to spend their dinner hour in nail bars or charity shops 🤷

Well Turtle Bay opens tomorrow. The be all and end all of places if you see how much the Council have promoted it🤣

The article does not say who will occupy the offices but this will be additional people to the jobs already announced. There are loads of decent eating establishments in Blackpool but it is obvious that more people in the centre can only be good for the daytime economy.

It is very easy to be negative but I don’t see anyone suggesting better ideas

As public servants they can't afford to eat out at lunchtime. They'll be bringing sarnies from home.

I'm not being negative, I'm being realistic

I fully agree. However, we're talking about turning around a large town. It will take time. And, let's face it the area hasn't had lots of growth in the economy. We're not London.

We're having to turn a town around that was left to rack and ruin because those who had the responsibility rested on their laurels and didn't move with the times.

I fully agree that the region needs massive redevelopment but instead of trying to do everything all at once , the developers and councillors need to have a more measured approach otherwise they'll be buildings that aren't neither filled with retail or workers.☹️

If you think that by massively increasing the footfall in the town centre, that it won't have a knock on effect on the businesses, then you're not being realistic. No one is saying every person will be out every day, but some will.

Where are the decent eating establishments?
There's a plenty, some good cafes, subway, abingdon Street bbq, bread basket, loads of restaurants, the new market etc etc. It's yet another myth that Blackpool has no places to eat in the centre, it's complete and utter bollocks.

JJpool, Blackpool's very own tourist information beacon 😉👍🏻

Cheers for the compliment, I love Blackpool. Not hard for us who can use tech to get the regular updates on FB etc. The info literally comes to me.

Your post was inaccurate as there's plenty of places, as each thread shows where people ask where to eat and about 50 places come up, plus there's enough places for lunch. It can always improve though.

There's a lot happening to be excited about as issues are finally trying to be addressed.

Keep banging the drum JJ and take no notice of the miserable tossers on here who constantly want to slag our fantastic town off. 👍

When I go into town and walk down Talbot Rd and Church Street I can see how poor it all looks and they are two of our main thoroughfares. However, the promenade looks good - with the headlands; the Gateway is taking shape, new hotels are replacing the tired, old stuff and the Revoe area - up through Central Drive - is starting to happen. Keep the faith.

There isn't a single place I've ever visited in the world not had naff areas bar some quante village or small town.
Vienna my last holiday abroad was absolutely stunning went across the Danube and it was a dump but I don't dwell on it and like Blackpool look at positives.👍

About these new offices - Aren't most people working from home 2 or 3 days a week now, including the civil service?

Just a thought🤷‍♂️
The pandemic showed that hybrid working is the future and you don't have to physically be in the office 60 hours a week to advance your career.

Dinosaurs like Rees-Mogg are still claiming otherwise but they are irrelevant to modern working.
