Blackpool improvements - Tons happening

That's amazing really considering the summer of issues. Shows it's on the up.

23.5 million people 😲

Whatever people think clearly it's doing something right.

Anyone been here?

Another eyesore to go, Edward Street will be transformed on that side, once the old post office / sorting office is done the whole street will be pretty much done.
Well done on keeping this thread going. It's always easy to knock Blackpool when the years of dereliction is plainly visible.. Turning things around is a massive enterprise but slowly and surely it is happening.

Yeah I just keep adding to it and the improvements are many. It'll be interesting to see in a few years when some are further along, completed, or even some bigger planned ones started, like the revoe ones. Some exciting ones to follow too, the dwp building is a good one, the multiversity too will be transformative, Blackpool central is a big one.

It was voted the most underrated earlier this year...

A line from another article here.

Certainly a bit of a change of attitude coming.

"But this summer, it feels like Blackpool is on the up.

Everywhere I look, there's building taking place and existing attractions being spruced up.

There's been investment along the seafront, with Merlin, the company behind Alton Towers and Legoland, recently opening its eighth attraction in the town with the arrival of the Gruffalo Clubhouse for little ones."

"The roll out of the TSO scheme supports the government’s wider Anti-social behaviour action plan, which is backed by £160m worth of funding.

Under the plan, 16 areas in England and Wales are being funded to support either new anti-social behaviour focused ‘hotspot’ police and enforcement patrols in areas with the highest rates of anti-social behaviour, or trialling a new ‘immediate justice’ scheme to deliver swift and visible punishments. A select few areas are trialling both interventions.

Thanks to this work, several hotspot trial forces have reported significant declines in anti-social behaviour. The Lancashire Constabulary have reported that in Brunswick, Blackpool, there has been a 36% fall in reported incidents of anti-social behaviour compared to the same period last year when hotspot patrols were not in place."

Headline... "Preston man thinks Blackpool is lovely." I guess he's not a bitter nobber.

The telephone boxes need to be removed, stripped back to the bare metal, painted and reassembled before being put back in place. The glass should be plexi glass and the doors locked shut with no equipment inside.

The line of 8 boxes is visually striking and a highlight of the building, the hotel should be called "8 red box hotel"

Yeah possibly, I think I've only read they'll be preserved. But if they're in a poor state I doubt they'll be left to bring down the overall image.

So thompson devlopments own the building, put plans to turn it into hotel years ago, never go ahead with it, funding gets approved and now another party is interested in it, maybe to put more plans in. What a farce, knock it down, just keep the frontage and turn it into a temporary cark park or multi storey.

If they are in a poor state there's plenty of old telephone boxes in private hands, they should be bought and used to replace what we have.

It's the symmetry of the 8 boxes, with the contrast of white building to scarlet phone boxes that makes a highlight In the memory.

Without them it's merely a good looking building.

Well either way they're staying and I doubt they'll be left in a poor state to being fown the newly refurbished front of the hotel.

Not another bloody car park, already plenty.

Maybe they could turn them into an art installation like the one in Kingston (possibly sponsored by Dominos)

The point being, certain investors are taking the piss, like the golf course project. No it has a new use at east park, whats to stop the council selling it on to the hospital at a higher rate. Look at all the other car parks that have not been developed.

It's full steam ahead on the Hotel.

There's houndshill, that other one in the the centre, the new central one, one near the new dwp office is coming, the ones near the stadium. There's loads.

What should happen, if they care so much about footfall and the town centre, is locals should get parking for free or a pound, not just over Xmas, but all year, then people will go and shop there and eat out far more often.

I bet you that the post office hotel will still be submitting plans in 5 years time. Giving free parking will just get taken up by shop workers/office workers. The town centre will be dead in a few years time, some say it already is.

Footfall is increasing despite a poor summer weather wise and cost of living issues.

"Figures for the town centre show a five per cent increase in footfall – from almost 14 million in 2022, to almost 14.7 million this year."

Just announced on Granada Reports that Blackpool is in the top 5 destinations in the world, more people visit than New York according to Trivago.

New blackpool courts

And another major project for the town, a little outside of the town centre this time.
Yeah had seen some plans a couple weeks ago, it came up on something and I think then was on the councils panning page.

But this is the first actual image's.

Getting this in place releases the central site for the next stages of that project.

That court was closed anyway wasn't it after finding dodgy concrete, so maybe it'll be knocked down anyway now.

But it's good to see things progressing.

Some good progress here, will fill an eyesore site.

Shame the houses seem to be of a cheaper construction method compared to the existing ones given their building method.

This is good.

This is the type of thing many want at the old odean building, only eith even more space and options, the site owners claim they couldn't find and instead want to put a storage facility at at leisure park. But if the council refuse it they may have to think again.

Yet with millions of visitors and locals crying out for this sort of thing, I'm pretty sure it would do well. You could have bowling, pool, crazy pool, VR experiencs, go karting etc.

But either way, this one is usable by locals too and good to have more options like this.

Small one refused as didn't meet any requirements.

But a much bigger one in North shore, that was already approved, now approved again after a slight increase in numbers.

San Marcos coming back, loved it used to go all the time.

Anything happening to the Prudential building next to bus station, empty shops down Talbot rd. Was in town, didnt venture out of my car, Clifton St had plenty of door sleepers and it was mid day or later. Anymore plans been submitted regarding old post office. What about re seeding the grassed areas on the prom, has the council run out of money. Could reach 200 million in debt next year.

It’s always easy to be negative but the improvements around the town centre are obvious. Why would more plans be submitted for the old post office when the existing plans have been agreed? As for empty shops there’s not a town centre in the country not suffering from the decline in retail. The new office development in Talbot Gateway will increase footfall which should help with that.
Maybe next time you should venture out your car and have a better look at what is available in the town centre.

Looks great that. In fact was watching the Rate My Takeaway guy last night on YouTube and he was in a very similar place in Manchester. If they provide really good quality American diner style food then places like this could be a real winner.
