Blackpool improvements - Tons happening

Took day off to have a stroll round christmas by the sea, was only going to be a quick one due to weather but the place was shut, fair weather traders. Maybe next year they should cover it.

Loads happening at the Vic, having sat in an ambulance for 6 hours on Monday, I was relieved to be taken into the bright, clean, spanking new A & E. There’s a lot of other building work going on as well which contributed to the wait, but will be a big improvement according to the paramedics.

You've still got to get there and if its pissing down many wont bother. People come out for the rides, experience etc, only so much could be covered and would cost a lot, when it colder it doesn't tend to rain as much, but it's a bit warmer for the next few days.

Tbh summer suffered with the rain.

Maybe Blackpool hotels should pay a cloud seeding tax, so planes can drop chemicals into the sky that make it rain and clear up on key days, to improve the number of good days.

😆

Yes, I was joking. The joys of being self employed, day off here day off there.

You OK?

had a pretty serious chest infection, had antibiotics for 8 days and it was getting worse, couldn’t breathe, oxygen levels low. Now on steroids and it’s gradually on the mend, still stuck in though wh means I’ve no chance of going Saturday. Never had anything like it. Thanks for asking.

Looks like a good restaurant will soon be opening, marco pierre white New York Italian.
Yes that been mentioned before, sounds interesting. The sign went up a while back.

I guell it'll be like this one in media city.

"Councillors have also approved proposals to create a new high-tech business park called Silicon Sands, centred around a series of data centres powered by renewable energy.
It is hoped Silicon Sands would attract new businesses which require ultra-fast internet speeds, such as advanced manufacturing, virtual reality and esports, making the most of the CeltixConnect-2 internet cable, which carries up to one-third of the world’s internet traffic via Blackpool Airport.
The cable sends data from Blackpool to New York under the sea in less than 0.064 seconds and offers significant benefits for businesses that need ultra-fast and reliable internet.

The data centres would be powered by renewable energy with any excess heat reused to heat surrounding buildings.
The vision also includes Blackpool’s first solar farm and a battery storage plant."

More in the article.

Blackpool on the Up: The changing face of one of Britain's favourite resorts

Available now from the official Showtown website, tickets cost £15 for adults and £11.50 for children, and with tickets being valid for a whole year, visitors are welcome to return as many times as they like! Discounted tickets are also available for students, and seniors and carers can go free.

If you are a Blackpool resident who pays your council tax to Blackpool Council you will also be able to get your hands on a free ticket, giving you and your family full access to the museum’s exhibitions and events, as well as family-friendly facilities.

Regarding these business adventures, many new to the business world, the Council were offering start up packages, grants, loans etc to them. Money never ever to be seen again, its not just Blackpool I know but councils need to get tougher if offering types of funding for new business's.
Was up town myself Fri afternoon last week, bought a couple of pairs of jeans from frasers, about 5 perfumes and three aftershaves from the perfume shop, will be my last visit till next Christmas, hounds hill was dead and the streets, apart from those asking you for any change. Some fool will be telling me footfall is up in the weeks prior to Christmas.

The main point was about the new venue, the more things to do the merrier.

The footfall stats are legit and also businesses have been doing OK.

Not been myself over Xmas but have seen videos etc.

Thought I'd update on this thread but try and keep it under this one seeing as it's all tied to improvements.

Went past here earlier and they have fairly recently planted lots of different trees on the edges of fishers field, all along Highfield Road the St.Annes Road side.

Fairly mature trees too, as they do for streets etc.

Looked really good but will look even better in spring and summer, also much better when they're bigger.

I know the edges of revoe Park were done a while back, although some seemingly didn't make it and weren't there recently... most have made it though.

Anyone else noticed any other places they've planted? @tangerine_neil you were involved in the last thread...

Looked busy enough OK this video, considering the poor weather.

Still not a fan of the concrete plant pots. Needs sorting as that's pathetic.

Busy, are you blind. What a state Central Dr and Albert Rd are in, infact any street in the Town centre.
Read today the council are selling their multi million pound art hotel on the prom, for an over inflated price of 250k +. Our useless council at it again.

Are you? Did you watch the video he even says and you can see it's pretty busy in houndshill and some surrounding areas.

GHOST TOWN
Im on about shopping not bars etc. Middle of the night on a crap weather night, when many are prioritising Christmas given the cost of living.

That's a picture painted in many places.

Yes I did, seems you didnt. Sure the licensed premises, shops and hotels were happy with the trade they got, more will be shutting down each day.

Love a nice tree lined street or even on the edges of fields.

It‘s that close planting Miyawaki nonsense that’s ruined areas myself and other locals used for taking the dog for a walk.
Unless the ultimate intention is to recreate scenes from the Somme.

Yeah it's what I've talked about before, the quick wins, so to speak, where there's nothing more than getting the trees and planting them in verges etc. It's the street remodeling that's costly and time consuming and that'll be needed for central areas as there are very few verges etc.

As for those mini forests I still think they'll be good when more developed and there's still plenty of open space fields.

Anyway back to the point, there's still many quick wins to be had and these should be the priority, as you can make the biggest visual impact in the smallest time.

Also the central areas need permanent solutions not just temporary planters.

And again, those concrete planters outside the tower area are just ridiculous.

We had some appear near us. After they filled with weeds, we complained and got them moved.
Well it's not the pots themselves, it's the fact that in the town centre near the tower they have just filled them with concrete.

Should put cordylines in them.

I get the feeling they are using them not for their intended purpose of plants. Seems like they use them to block traffic and as general immovable barriers.

They aren't, you can still get past them with a car. They are just placed on bank hey street and filled in.

Poulton already opened one of these golf bars a few weeks ago (diagonally opposite the Golden Ball).
