Blackpool v Everton Matchday Thread 24.07.22

Appleton is still learning about the players he has at his disposal. Let's face it we were chasing shadows for the first 20 mins as Everton passed the ball around us with ease. Our left flank was flimsy to say the least, not a lot of blame should be aimed at Williams because he has been thrown straight in but Garbutt and Andersen were all at sea defensively, in fact Keshi plays like he has no defensive responsibility.

We stuck at it and as Everton took a breather we suddenly started getting the ball to Bowlers feet. He his our main attacking threat unfortunately the better he plays the more likely we are to lose him. In the absence of Stewart, Dougall and Virtue imo are our best midfield combination with Fiorini or Carey playing further forward. People moan about negative sideways and backwards passing but this is where Critchley influence was most apparent. We struggled to retain possession particularly in that first 20 mins.

Regardless of how long Husband is likely to be out we are crying out for a defensivley strong left back it is a glaring weakness in our team.

100 percent agree with this. We are most definitely in between times:

"preseason is where fools rush to make judgements based on deeply flawed evidence but if I'm going to stupidly join that rush, I'd say we've sacrificed the defensive solidity and not really yet compensated by finding a natural looking attacking fluidity. I'm all for scoring one more than them, it just feels a bit like we might be in danger of scoring one fewer than them..."

Saturday will be different. Of course it will, won't it?? 😗

Am I the only one who doesn't like the manager saying that he's "reasonably happy" after conceding four goals at home?
Even if it is a friendly against a decent team.
I really hope Appleton isn't going to be one of those irritating managers who talk about "positives" every time the team gets beaten. By doing that he's not going to endear himself to many fans I think.
We want points not positives

To me "reasonably happy" sounds very loaded. To me it includes the line "get me some players to improve this squad and I might start getting you some results."
