Blackpool v Everton Matchday Thread 24.07.22

Everton have had a rubbish pre-season, losing every game, including an embarrassing 4 nil loss to Minnesota in their last match.

Fat Frank already moaning about squad depth and commitment, so it might be an interesting game!

Cannot see it being a good attendance at all. The visit of Everton is not getting our fans excited in the slightest. Maybe that should worry their fans a little.

I'll be there. It's a chance to see what will probably be our best team. Besides, what else is there to do on a Sunday afternoon?

Yesterday's weather forecast predicted rain and that may have put some people off. Now, it's changed to sunny intervals. There's no finer sight than tangerine in the sunshine. 👍 🍊

I'm actually looking forward to this, might be a friendly but disappointed not a bigger crowd. I do think a couple of signings might have got more interest but hopefully someone will come in next week.

The last few words are what I've been thinking for a month. Starting to wonder why they loved Ben Mansford so much in Tel Aviv.

Reading this today from MA, is it fair to conclude that he didn't pick the friendlies and would have chosen less difficult opposition?
MA today is quoted as saying: “They don’t get much easier, do they? We’ve had Leeds, Rangers and now Everton,” he told The Gazette. “When you’re trying to implement a style and a way of playing and you’re facing a side where you’re not going to see much of the ball".
The main objectives are 1) No injuries please 2) Lock Ellis in the changing room and convince him to sign for us before the Reading game :)

Just tried to phone up to get some tickets for tomorrow's match

Closed now and tickets only available until 12 tomorrow at the ticket office

How shit is that if your an exile?

Can't as they haven't sent me a log in reset yet

New site is shite
You'd have to get hold of them to sort that out, then printing from home is easy or having the pdf on your phone I think you can scan from it.

But the new site launch has been a bit of a disaster.

Similar with ttv with multiple charges and also not an obvious link to the game stream.

I think I read that Appleton will start with the team he expects to start the season with. He’s got a lot of signings to get in today then 🤣

I get your point but I'm going tomorrow because I want to get a look at what Appleton probably thinks is his best team and to see how they play.
Also football on a Sunday is ideal for me and it doesn't happen very often!

As a point of interest Todd Kane the Coventry City right back has been left out of there team
due to interest from another club !.

I'm fairly sure MA doesn't give advance briefings of his team selection to the press, everything is just speculation.
It was a direct quote from Appleton, I hope he is true to his word because he is introducing a new style of play and new roles for some players, they need to be comfortable with it before the Reading game.

I have a spare ticket available for today in the North West Stand as someone has pulled out last minute.

Can meet later or send ticket via email. It is a senior ticket for £5

I would imagine he’ll want to play the team he expects to start against Reading, he’ll want to see how they perform.

I wonder if there is any chance of us playing the actual 'strongest' team that will start off the campaign.
I wonder if MA either hasn’t decided what exactly that is yet or is trying to make the starting 11 less predictable for Reading?

Not a bad XI, but there are a few questions though.

1. Is Madine really going to be the loan man up top? He just hasn't shown to me before or during this pre-season that he is suited to that role... he does look fitter though and MA has probably seen something that we haven't.
2. Like that Virtue has been given the nod, assuming he will operate as a holding mid, he was fantastic there against Salford last week, winning the ball and progressing it ever so well.
