Blackpool v Everton Matchday Thread 24.07.22

Glad to see Keshi in the front 3. If he can get back his form from last season he will cause problems.

Main issue from playing big Gaz is that either Carey or Fiorini needs to get close to him. In the 4-4-2 Gaz wins flick ons but rarely our strikers read it.

In 4-3-3 one of the AMs needs to get close. He can then head it back to them for a quick pass through the gap rather than a flick on into space.

Works if executed well.

Not a bad XI, but there are a few questions though.

1. Is Madine really going to be the loan man up top? He just hasn't shown to me before or during this pre-season that he is suited to that role... he does look fitter though and MA has probably seen something that we haven't.
2. Like that Virtue has been given the nod, assuming he will operate as a holding mid, he was fantastic there against Salford last week, winning the ball and progressing it ever so well.
Likely Appleton will take a different approach in games where we will struggle for position in the final 3rd. Madine will be a focal point for a tactic where we likely need the ball to be held up (such as today) whereas more mobile forwards will play when we can expect to play through the opposition and therefore don’t need the hold up play.

Good points, interested to see how that works for us.

Well it looks like Madine is favoured up front, and Jerry will once again come on when the best of the rest have been subbed. I can’t get my head around it, because the lack of movement surely takes away from the otherwise positive line up.

Nice to see Virtue keeping his place in midfield. Also Anderson in probably his best position.

I’m wondering completely from memory here... Did Frank Lampard last visit Bloomers with Derby? If not, I believe it will have been a 1-3 victory to Chelsea in the prem when he scored from a pen.

It does look like the midfield lacks a bit of steel but happy to be proved wrong.

My 3 worker for the opening 9 minutes.

Don't sell Gabriel

Bowler is no defender. They should have scored before their goal when their forward got goal side of JB too easily

Edit 2-0 too easy
