Blackpool v Oxford United Official Matchnight Thread 21.04.21

Sky bet odds are interesting. Home win 13/10, draw 23/10, away win 19/10. So they seem to think we will edge it.

3-2 Jerry 7 minutes

I think the first twenty minutes will be key, if we get through that either level or up one then we will be ok. However, go one down early and who knows what could happen. The one thing I think is in our favour is that they looked out on their feet on Tuesday, and they will need to work even harder to break us down.

Agree about the first 20 minutes as they will come at us like hell fire. If we can pinch the first goal they will be finished and heads will drop.

1-2 Always strange games , these. Oxford to throw everything at us and score before and after half time then Jerry nabs one on the break to calm nerves.

Remember when we best Forest 2 - 1 and in the first leg at home? Course you do! How did you feel about the return leg? Did you watch, open mouthed as we slotted in 4 goals to their 3? Did you, like me, wonder “is this really MY football club putting on this kind of performance in such an important game, live on TV, away from home”?

I got that same feeling on Tuesday night, I’ve just got to BELIEVE!

2 - 1 to Pool, coming from behind just to remind ourselves that we can concede goals and know how to fight back!

Keep Yates near the half-way line when Oxford attack. He's the man for a goal.
Oxford will have to attack, so there will be gaps for Gerry to run into.

They are going to have to come at us. Games we have struggled is when teams have put everybody behind the ball and we have struggled to break them down. Score first and the tie is over.

Only risk is if we concede first and start getting tentative - can't see this squad doing that but it may happen. If it does then we can't let any negative vibes to start coming from the crowd - no negatives from anybody there tonight, only positive noise (or keep your mouth shut). Those of us who are priviliged to get a ticket need to b.e fully supportive all night long. Plenty of noise and encouragement.

As I've said most of the season....First goal is Key....It allows them to settle down and control the game .....Im sure the players and Critchley realise this as we have pretty much started on the front foot these last 5 games regardless of the opposition.
Im sure the roar of the 12th man will make the players rise to the occasion.

I would have gone for a 2-1 home win but I would really like to see the Pool score 5 to sicken
Karl Robinson who seems to have been mouthing off to the media

Oxford fans have convinced themselves that they lost the first leg because of poor refereeing. This is one typical comment

Keith Stroud is the referee for tomorrow nights 2nd leg
Lets hope he isnt like the ref in the 1st match. 2 blatant red cards and 2 blatant penalties not given.

I hope Kai Kai is fit to play. He would have had a field day with the amount of space given in the final third last Tuesday, more of the same please Mr Robinson.

And KR..."apart from that 3 minutes in the first half we were by far the better team".

Got a few lads staying in the hotel tonight that’s going to the match. Also a group staying tomorrow but in a pitch side executive room at BFC hotel tonight 👍👍👍

This rain is a big worry. Its likely to continue until 10 o'clock. PLEASE don't call it off. Is there a pitch inspection planned?

Come on the pool, lets show Oxford what it's like to play in the north at a proper ground with proper fans, on a site with real history, where the first Ballon d'or winner chose to play, where we've achieved things that they can only dream of (what the f is a milk cup?), today we do it again, because it's in our DNA.

Excited and Very Nervous. Earlier today I didn’t think there was any chance of the pitch being an issue... but I’d very much love an update from the club, groundsman, scrafton or anyone right now tbh. From what I’ve seen the rain hasn’t relented at all

We’ve had a few short dry spells in FY2 in between the rain, though it might not have felt like it, so hopefully it might have made a little difference.

I'm not bothered about the score tbh because we've already won the tie imo. My main concern is that they will target the likes of Hubby and look for red cards to give themselves a glimmer of hope. Red cards deplete the squad for Wembley.

Anyway, COME ON YOU POOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-2
Oxford Player 9
Oxford Player 26
Yates 45+2
Ballard 77
Madine 89
Ekpiteta 90+5

A few twitchy moments as we come from behind to bury the feckers! 😎

Leaving soon, but not really bothered, we’re going to win again tonight, we’re already at Wembley.

Seriously, I can’t wait.
