Blackpool v Peterborough United Official Matchnight Thread 23.03.21

If you were a 'Pool player you certainly wouldn't want to lose your place in the final push. That competition for places could raise the standard that extra 5%. Could be a glorious end to the season. Bit more work on set plays and a little bit of composure in front of goal and who knows where we will end up.

Lot of love for Ward tonight. He always seems to grow into a game and had a far better second half than first.
I do prefer him further forward though, rather in the deeper role that he was asked to play tonight, but that's a measure of the player, the team and the coaching staff that we can do that.

I've got to say though, this Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday thing is causing havoc with players' bodies. Having to be fully competitive twice a week, every week must be back-breaking. How Jerry Yates keeps going I just don't know.

Hopefully, Jerry running into the ground sat tues with no respite. Man's a machine, but in ideal world would be resting players a bit more where possible to keep as fit as possible through this run in.
Sorry JJ didn't see yours. I've just written the same thing.

He's coming on so well. Really growing into this squad.

Yes its my main worry now, Jerry never gets changed at all.

Be nice to be a few up against the next two sides and give him a rest later on.

The more players who come back soon should only make us stronger.

Simms is a young lad, had done well in spells. If we are in a position to do so would be good to rest some if suitably ahead.

I think I would rather see Brad Holmes given a chance if we are well on top going into the last 30min.

Another game, another superb performance. Something happened at half time against Burton, I don't know what was said but we came out and decided to give our more creative players greater freedom and haven't looked back since. It isn't just that though, the whole team looked determined, like they were on a mission and we saw the same against Oxford and again tonight.

I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter who we play in defence; our defensive record is a whole team effort as we are absolutely outstanding without the ball. The work rate and pressing is second to none in this league. We didn't give Peterborough a second to think for the whole 90 mins. We won't win all the games remaining, but one thing's for sure, if anyone wants any points off us, they're going to have to put a serious shift in. This group of players are so professional, they can get dropped and then come back in like they'd never left. They can play out of position and not let it phase them. You never see less than 100% (actually that's been the case most of the season even when we weren't getting results). They are all taking great pride in the shirt which is great to see and all we as fans can ask for.

To win against second in the league with our injury list is immense. I'm starting to think whether we are doing them a disservice by thinking of them as a second string, because i'm starting to think we shouldn't change anything to be honest! Well maybe bring in a centre half, not that Turton did badly tonight, he was excellent.
I don't think it's right to single anyone out particularly after that, it was just a great team effort and performance.

The only real downside tonight is that we weren't all there to give them the ovation they deserved at the end.
Fantastic night. Take a bow 'pool.
Bang on agree with all that 🙂🙂 I've said it tonight in my livestream something happened at half time, something was said maybe? something clicked in Critchs brain maybe but since that halftime everything has changed.

We look imposing, we look dangerous, we are closing down all over the pitch its a joy to watch quite a way to go yet but you can feel an excitement building 🙂👍

A great all round performance. At last our attacking ratings are up there with the defensive ones. We have to be realistic though - the current injury situation is likely to compromise the run in given the demands of the fixture schedule. If we can get most of the players back soon, the play offs are within reach. If that does not happen though its a huge ask I'm afraid.

Costero, your description of the forward four should be sent on to Chissy for when he returns. I'd love to hear how he'll cope with reef sharks and spunk in the nostrils.

Jerry had a relatively light early campaign and rarely played a full match. He’ll be ok, his style of play is not explosive, so unless he’s injured in a challenge, I’d expect him to be fine. Last night I think NC avoided unnecessary changes, even 3-1 up, because it was important to keep the shape and control. Had we conceded a 2nd it would have been difficult, so I was pleased he didn’t throw on another CH.

Sure Simms will be on in some games to give Jerry a breather.

It appears that Fergie Juniors throwing things around the changing room at half time doesn't work as good as Fergie Seniors used to.
😜 😜 😜

You must be blind if you didn't think we played well in the first half.

Superb win. I was confident at every stage tonight that we'd win.

P.S. I also called a 3-1 win on page 2 of this thread 😉

No I didn’t say we played badly. We played well but there was a period in the first half with backpasses and longish balls going nowhere
