Blackpool v Peterborough United Official Matchnight Thread 23.03.21

We're so well organised almost a makeshift eleven with so many injuries but despite playing out of position everyone knows their role. Get a few of the wounded back and don't rule out automatic yet.

Bet Ferguson stillwhinging at the ref 😂
Great all round performance, not surprising we end up with injuries, these boys run and run and run. Mitchell a revelation up front, Kaikai up front will will help defence out. Jerry what can you say, like he Duracell bunny. And version 39 of the CBs worked
He wasn't happy was he Mick Garvey. I just put it down to him being banned from Benidorm at the moment

Gretarson was there and is apparently fit, Antwi could have done 10 mins surely. 😃 Given a couple of the lads a rest given Sat Tues games and a depleted squad.

Anyway, didn't matter but, just really don't want anymore injuries now.
I know what you are saying but it could have caused us to lose the shape.

Gabriel is a more gifted footballer, no doubt. Technically better, too. But Turton does give you that rigidity that Gabriel doesn't, and while not a world beater is useful for us when we want to play it safe and defend flat. He's part of the reason we've conceded so few goals recently.

Trouble has been balancing that with attacking football but we're getting that right, finally. IMO good to have both options with Turton/Gabriel.
That's absolutely fine, but when you're struggling to score. I didn't understand Neil's persistence with playing such defence full backs in Husband and Turton and it's always been my issue.

Another win. Great for the confidence. And you know they can play even better. They've got themselves in a good position. No one really to fear above them. Going to be very interesting the last 12 games. Let's see what they're made of.

Heads down and time to concentrate on Plymouth. NC back to studying tomorrow. No rest for the wicked.

Because Critch can't tinker look what happens when we have a settled team. The so called "better players" should not automatically be brought back into the team until the players who are playing now have a drop in performance. If it ain't broke...
Fully agree Gaz, NC will know that bringing back players could upset the balance of the team but bring them in when absolutely 100% fit and when necessary.

Why is there debate over players in the match day thread after we've just beaten 2nd in the League and gone into 6th?

REJOICE FELLOW SEASIDERS! WE CAN GET BACK TO ARGUING TOMORROW!
Because some people are totally incapable of backing down from anything.
Instead of holding their hands up and admitting they were wrong, they double down and dig deeper.
Because being seen to be right is more important than the team being successful.

We were a bit on the back foot there near the end, usually happens when holding onto a lead, hard to cut out as naturally you hold onto what you have and they throw everything at you.

Was impressed by use of the ball largely tonight, the passing has improved a lot and coincided with our improvement in form. At times we are keeping the ball well and moving forward with purpose.

Hello, I thought that I'd leave it a full 90 minutes before commenting so there were no knee jerk reactions.
Listened to the 1st goal as was driving home and thought that we couldn't have asked for a better start.
Got in after 15 minutes my eldest telling me that Blackpool were playing as good as they did against Oxford, they were.
Conceded a well taken goal just before half time but let me say this, and it's easy to say after the event, it's the calmist I've been watching Blackpool this season.
The second half proved that with a composed display against supposedly the 2nd best team in the division.
Every player, as they did on Saturday were comfortable all game all returned imo at least 8/10's
Mentions for Yates, Ward and Turton who I thought were rocks tonight.
As said earlier in the chat, all this without Madine, CJ, Anderson, Ballard, Marv, Husband, Stewart and Viking.
Things, at the moment are going really well, we've now reached the play off places. The challenge now is to remain there. Who knows, push for the top two?
Because on Peterboroughs showing tonigh, that is a distinct possibility.
#believe 👍🏻

The last two performances have been great, hopefully we are now beginning to see the new Blackpool identity that has been talked about.

Love the high press game we are playing, despite me posting that I thought the draw against Burton was season ending my only concern now is that the squad runs out of numbers and steam. Be great to get most of them back for the run in.

Big shout out to the back 4, Oliver Mascherino Turton was outstanding as a makeshift CH as was Thorniley who mistake aside was imperious, great Evo like diagonals out from the back.

Thought we played really well from the back to the front ,all playing their part in a great team performance, odd mistake here and their but we seem to all fight together, and help each other,no heads dropping even when they equalised just before half time, wish the fans were their to back them the place would be rocking, but i am sure the players are aware of the support for them ,onwards and upwards #utmp#

That's my view. It's all about opinions but we know the strengths and weaknesses in this squad by now. The blend is working. Down to Critch and Co's hard work and Simon Sadler's preparedness to invest in a deep enough squad to carry us through.

I'd also like to say Mitch!

I said a few weeks ago... "I've only just started to appreciate his worth"... or something to the effect. He was class tonight and a real threat/ distraction for the opposition.

I think its more testament to how well we're doing that we're pulling off these results with who we have available, we've been playing full backs at centre half for weeks now and have just secured 6th place with the 2nd best defence in the league. It's bloody unbelievable!
