Blackpool v Sheffield United Official Matchday Thread 29.12.22

So f***ed up. How can you play three strikers whatever the formation. Just a complete waste of time.

At least it’s not Beesley on the left this time though. Jerry’s best football this season has been from the wing.

Still rubbish. We have an international striker in Lavery who only seems to be utilised on the wing. Now he plays a League One journeyman ahead of him. Yates does not play his best football on the wing. Majority of the games he is a passenger. Asking Yates to track back and help the full backs is just ridiculous. He doesn’t create anything either. He is a finisher and should be upfront.

Surely it's obvious Lavery is a sub at best. A street fighter and a ratter with the touch of a rhinoceros. Impact sub for me.

Thompson & Marv ..... you know they're going to wind you up, so please stay on the bl**dy pitch.
You players know what's at stake, now go out and win the game

Same team as Boxing Day suggests same formation, meaning Beesley on the left I would imagine.

The bbc has us playing 4-3-1-2 with no holding midfielder, Patino isnt that and Beesley as the 10. Cant make sense of it at all.

beesley had a good game on monday, hopefully when he starts to tire as he will (and as he did) appleton will actually notice. Can see sheffield being very physical, whats the betting on them targeting charlie fro some not so subtle physical stuff. Ref is very card happy almost 5 per game, hopefully clamp down on any naughty stuff early on.

A graphic I saw earlier had it as a 4-4-1-1 with Poveda in behind Madine, Yates on the right and Beesley on the left.

Visually it looked like a bunch of players thrown at the pitch rather than a set formation at Hull. More about putting their defenders under pressure when they were pissing about at the back so maybe same thing again. It certainly worked for the goal we scored, less so for 9 out of the 10 outfield players ending up in a different postcode to Thorniley off one ball forward up the other end.

We missed a couple of absolute sitters though. Much as I also don't like him or see much of a future for him, I do think he got his tactics right last time. We did enough to win.

Poveda against Jack Robinson could be interesting. When he was on loan here from Liverpool he always looked liable to giving away a penalty. I was impressed with Beesley.

All change at the beeb Beesley is now left wing with Carey the 10 I give in.

We're totally fucked in this one, I fear.

However there MUST be a win around the corner.

We haven't won in 7 matches... 🤪🤪🤪

No matter what people think of Appleton and our squad, I don't believe we are as shit as our points tally makes us out to be

Rumours that if they lose Ross Stewart Sunderland will try to reunite the Yates/Simms partnership. Makes a lot of sense, they were actually in for Yates when he came to us from Rotherham.
They'd have to buy Simms to make that a long term proposition.
