Blackpool v Shrewsbury Town Official Matchday Thread 24.04.21

KaiKai is looking sharp today which is great. Embleton is having a poor game whilst Simms just doesn’t look all that interested. Ward has slowed the game down too much and made some poor decisions. I think a tactical switch may be necessary. The midfield is looking too deep to me.

Embleton offers nothing in that wide right position. Looking very pedestrian and feels a lot like Rochdale so far.

That was a continuation of Tuesday night, very poor and we look more like a relegation side than a promotion chasing side. A change of tactics and some fresh legs, give some players a rest. Embleton has been awful since he missed the Sunderland game.

Things might be different in front of a crowd with us telling them when its not good enough.

Critch and team need to get into them at half time.

This is so poor.

Hopefully Critch has learned lessons from last week and we actually get a lot better in this second half

Now then. We are much better than we were on Tuesday but we're offering nothing in the final 20 yards. Partly that's because Yates and Embleton are our two poor players.
Kaikai's working well. I'd put him up front with Simms, take off Yates and bring Mitchell onto the left, working with Garbutt.
Defenders are doing OK.

360 mins + since we last scored a proper goal. Creativity and composure in the final third has disappeared. Worrying.

Change of shape needed

My lad has just knocked the game on the head and headed to the hot tub. Bored rigid Critch needs to get a grip and quickly

I can't remember Embleton having a good game. He's has zero influence on any game and and seems to be in a downward spiral. My ten year old daughter calls him 'the passenger' such as key position too. Talk about given the ball away time and time again.

Rubbish. Kaikai only threat so far. Embo working hard but running into blind alleys and giving crap passes. Simms and Yates done nothing. We miss a box to box midfielder who’s a goal threat. Ward and Dougall do similar things in slightly different areas of the pitch and both get a nosebleed if they get to close to the oppo's 18 yd box.

I think what we feared about running out of steam with so many games has happened. Even The Shirtless One looks sluggish, Kaikai is the only bright spot, at least he s trying. Simms is getting no service, Garbs and Gabs doing ok but need to have confidence to go for the bye line

No excuses, we should be doing more going forward, it's not as if Shrewsbury have just come to stop us playing, plenty of open space to do something with the ball.

Embleton is not a right winger yet Critch keeps playing him there, he needs to be just behind the front 2 or 1, his game improves massively then. Maybe take Simms off, play Embleton and Kaikai just behind Yates and bring Mitchell on for some pace out wide.

Time for Critch to be brave and get a substitution right. Embleton's passing has been woeful, send him to the showers and get Mitchell on for the start of the second half.

If ever there was an occasion for half time subs this is it. We're in danger of our season fizzling out if this goes on. Direct running at pace and a few shots would really help!

It's got to be shit or bust in the 2nd half get Mitchell and the young striker on and go for the win not play for a draw like seems to be the plan.

It's got nothing to do with being out on the right Pete, he couldn't pass a parcel today !

He’s not having a good game today and was poor against Rochdale too but prior to the Sunderland game he had looked like a good player and had shown some good intelligence with his positioning and passing. I feel he’s trying to do things his team mates aren’t seeing today. Yates is having to drop too deep in order to get himself involved as the midfield are playing too deep and at too low a tempo whilst Simms just seems to want to stroll around today and not get involved too much.
Embleton has a touch of the GTF about him and maybe needs to be a little more selfish. He passes the ball too early and doesn’t run at the defence enough.

Lack of urgency ,bad passing anyone would think we havnt played as a team before , need to get back to passing a bit quicker and start to get some quicker movement going, to predictable at the moment sideways passing or back to maxi for a big punt up top

The Shirtless One is gathering energy, he will get into it soon

We're not playing with any wingers, he's playing right side. I wouldn't let him anywhere near the middle where you get even less time on the ball.

We don't look a playoff side at the moment do we 🙄

Just going through the motions. Seemingly almost no idea how to create a decent chance, not the first touches or quality of pass to do so.

Must improve and fast.

Phil Parkinson said Embleton will be in their squad next season, and Embo's tuned out. He doesn't care about performing for us anymore.

I wasn't a huge fan of GTF but you are doing him a real disservice there, he was at least two classes above Embleton

I hate to say it but you can just feel it all slipping away from us. if we don’t beat these and lose at Sunderland it’s all over.

Need to come back out with purpose, need to win this, could easily get beat away at Sunderland then would need to win two from three more than likely

He was marginally better but still had little or no impact on a game. A lot of Sunderland fans say the same thing 'zero impact on games'
