Blackpool v Watford Official Matchday Thread 08.10.22

Missed the game as stuck in Barbados ... forgot to bring my IPTV stick. Great to read the posts - pleased for everyone especially Jezzer who's been looking sharp all season. And CJ contributed ... wow ... hopefully a turning point from here on in for the club. Gonna miss the next couple of games. It's only when you're away you value the longer posts describing the game.
Feel your pain I was in The Maldives when we played Oldham in the play offs, watched the game on teletext! Hopefully you get back to The Gold Coast soon

Loved it all today especially with the north stand increasing the decibel levels, no complaints about any player.
What was going on with the Watford player who got subbed after only coming on 5 minutes earlier, he literally ripped his shirt off as a came in to the dug out, bizarre or what.

How did Bridcutt compare to Dougall and Connolly in that position?

Dougall will struggle to get back in the starting XI after today.
Didn’t seem do anything outstanding and tbh doesn’t look totally fit either. But the midfield improved massively second half because of him. We seemed a much more balanced midfield with him there and Patino could get further forward and pressure the lad with the hair.

Early days and he looks like another Stewart - just hope he hasn’t got glass legs like our Kev…….

When I saw the line-up, I predicted a 2-1 win, with big Gaz scoring first.
In this instance, being wrong is even better than being right.

Great to see CJ being positive and using his speed to good effect. Thought he played well when he came on and knows how to pick a cross. That will do his confidence the world of good. Buzzing after that result today. Thoroughly deserved it

Agree, Jerry has shown recently what a v good footballer he is. With those 3 close together chances and goals will come. Lavery can do a ratter job later on running down tired defenders and chasing lost causes.
Good job Jerry was not on the bench, as we could have been 4-1 down with the way they were breaking down the left.

No evidence I can find anyway on this thread of ref bashing?
That must be a first for this season?
Great result, sounds like it is coming together a bit more now?

Brilliant today. Not just the result but the effort. I know football fans in general (including me) form their opinion based on the result but when it was 1-1 I turned around to my dad and said I don’t care if we win lose or draw now. Theyve given it everything and I don’t think any reasonable person can ask anymore than that. The fact we won was both a bonus as well as thoroughly deserved.

Hope this comment doesn’t come across as negative as its actually meant as a compliment but my general feeling is that their are quite a lot of good league 1/very lower end championship players out there in our squad.

If we had top quality championship players we’d have won that by miles. The reality is they’re going to need that endeavour and work rate every game to stay in this division and we certainly got that today

Ref always good when we win and he was very good, team spirit and the body language coming together nicely.

Hang on. If they hadn't have had a top class keeper we might have won by a street.

Not sure i agree with that. Some of the saves looked incredible at first viewing (madines header specifically) but when you watched the replays i think ots fair to say you would have expected him to save everything which he did

I’m a huge Grimmy fan and he will be Blackpools No1 for as many years as he wants to, but at this moment we needed Maxwells experience and he has played top drawer so far. That free kick couldn’t of got any nearer to the top corner I don’t see anyone saving it
Perhaps not, but as has been pointed out, he only had 3 in the wall which gave their player plenty of goal to aim at.

Bridcutt not fully match fit, out of practice and a bit rusty. And still twice the player Dougall will ever be. This from someone who didn’t want him. 😁

Was a bit concerned when l saw the midfield line up with their youth and inexperience at this level especially against a team like Watford and wasn’t surprised at HT that changes were made. Bridcut once he settled in steadied the team down and the rest is history!

Hands up, I didn't want us to sign him. He has already proven me wrong.

He may not need to be that quick as he seems to have an old pro's brain and reads the game well.
