Booing the knee on Friday

agree with Tangojoe. Probably leave it for this season but if it carries on into next season its time to voice opposition. Its not supporting racism its removing political marxist movements from our football grounds.

Out of interest, do you think when our muslim players like Keshi, or players that have been racially abused like Ward, take the knee, they're aligning themselves with a Marxist organisation or espousing Marxist beliefs? Or are they just trying to raise awareness for an anti-racist cause?

BLM goes far beyond the core group's political beliefs and has spread into something much bigger, IMO. I wouldn't say Marxism is infiltrating football grounds.

Don't worry, Eagle Day (or Aldertag...as the Nazi's called it when they tried to destroy the British Royal Airforce)...is just a 'little' right wing

I honestly think anyone offended by the gesture has some deep seated issues regarding race and/or liberal campaigns and this is a handy way of venting while hiding behind a veil of 'not liking politics in football'. It's a very odd thing to be so vehemently against.

Either that or they're just reactionary dicks.

Why on earth should we worry about offending others just because we have a difference of opinion when those others have no qualms about doing likewise? Would I boo if I was there, no, but I would certainly turn my back on it. It's just become a minor irritation now, especially when the bloody commentators feel they have to explain what it's about every friggin' time.
It doesn't seem to me I am making the point that you are arguing against.

I understand it is a divisive issue, I am not coming on here to lecture people on how they should feel about the taking of the knee - but for ONE game when 100% support is required for the lads trying to get us promoted, people should refrain from contributing to a negative event even if its for 15 seconds. Because that is what it would be, there would be boo's ringing round Bloomfield Road seconds before we kick off in the play-offs.

You said it yourself you wouldn't boo, that's all I expect of people going to the game. If before, during and after you are completely and utterly against the knee that is your choice but just don't boo it in our biggest game of the season.

I'm there to watch the football, I'm not there for political reasons.
One of our players was racially abused just a few weeks ago by an opposition fan, who’s making it political??

Since when was “don’t be racist” a controversial political statement??

The players are just trying to raise awareness for anti racism.

Its the organisation BLM that I have a problem with.

They could replace the BLM organisation with Kick it out.

Yep, agree with that.

But football through the ages has always been a platform for a part of society to express views that aren`t social norms, and irrational hatred was often tolerated inside and outside stadiums when wrapped in team colours and subject to tribalism.

Overt racism was tolerated at football matches for a lot longer than it should have been, and some still possibly hanker for stadiums to be the politically incorrect zone of bygone times, and see "taking the knee" as a form of "cancel culture" and an erosion of their right to continue to spout bile without consequence...

If they have any sense or have taken notice of other peoples views they will realise THEY are not getting booed but the knee, and the fans are otherwise fully supportive of them in other regards. Unlike the race-baiters on this thread who see racism in every conflicting opinion to their own.

Off you pop to the ignore list

What’s up with you lot?

You’ve got a play-off match and your debating wether or not, to boo, if players kneel?

It’s good to see you’ve got your priorities right, not!

Give you heads a wobble and grow up!
Can't argue with that really.

Ffs - why in earth would you boo your team on our first game back

In this case that would appear to be putting your own political views on front of the footy

Agreed it has run its course and should be finish at end of this season

Supporters voicing pig ignorance in the form of racism should get automatic season ban .Doubt you will win a debate with such bone heads but a ban while fk them right off and in time moderate their behaviour

You have contradicted yourself. On one hand you say it must end next season and on the other you say anybody asking for it to end next season is voicing pig ignorant racism.

which is it?

I don’t think he said that at all.
I read it as - taking the knee should end as it’s run it’s course. Anybody being racist should be banned.

I’m loving the implied notion in this thread that says if you support the idea of stopping racism and discrimination of all kinds then you’re also implicitly a Marxist who wants to smash the state.

It’s almost as though there’s no coherent argument to not support the symbolic gesture of kneeling down, other than not liking the idea that black people have been disproportionately treated and need a fairer chance.

Funny how all the ‘All Lives Matter’ types are yet to show their support for the innocent lives being lost in Gaza...

As usual on AVFTT it just descends into insulting and name calling and everyone is “right” in what THEY think

utterly pointless thread as it changes no ones opinions on anything, gives virtually no balanced perspective and doesn’t give anyone pause for thought

So why did you choose it then? I'm curious, as it seems a really sad, attention-seeking thing to do.
You doughnuts really do read a lot of nonsense into things don't you, first I'm a closet Nazi, now I'm a sad attention seeker, any chance to put other people down, eh. It's simply one of my favourite battles of WW2.

Pity your boys lost.

Anyway, anyone who boos is making a political point and has no idea of the concepts of irony or appropriateness.

That would make a really good thread of it's own.

What's your favourite battle of WW2 and why?

Not really.

Chizzy says the same thing every match when they kneel.

Booing your own team as they are about to kick off in a playoff semi final is an act of an idiot and detrimental to the team. As such it's skin off all our noses.
If they want to behave like idiots, who am I to judge? I disagree with the knee but draw the line at booing a player especially before a big game, I'd rather turn my back on it.

Anyone booing our players and failing to support this initiative to kick racism out of sport should be banned from the ground. There are plenty of decent fans out there who would love to have their tickets. IMHO. Just saying it's cobblers all the time doesn't deflect from that truth. If you wannabe a Millwall supporter take the train rather than the knee.

Just keep bangin' on don't ya, just because some people are against taking the knee does not automatically follow they are against kicking out racism.

Really? So the most racist club in the country, who you want to emulate (cos they is really ard) just happen to be the ones who initiated this vile attack on a gesture of solidarity with victims of racism. It's that simple. I'll be there applauding this gesture on Friday.
