Brannagan joining...or not

Confirmed we have met the asking price, supposedly passed medical, hopefully announced tomorrow along with simms making a u turn 😄

It was leaked yesterday evening that Corbeanu was joining and it was announced this evening.

Brannagan was leaked to have been set to sign early this morning, if the club don't announce him by 3pm tomorrow, I will start to worry.

But I highly doubt Oxford fans know more about what's going on than the journalist who actually broke the news.

I am sure Oxford have been trying to negotiate a contract extension with him for months now and if nothing was agreed up until this point then I doubt that would change now all of a sudden.

I don't think Robinson would have made those comments unless he was certain that Brannagan was off.

Yeah I agree we might actually get him this time

However I feel its a sweetner for when Josh Bowler our best player goes for less his worth

That might be the case, wouldn't be surprised if the club had this on ice until they knew they'd get the money from Bowler, but Nixon (I know he has been very hit or miss with us so everything he says should be taken with a grain of salt) suggested that the Critchley money was being used to pull this signing off.

If we manage to bring in Brannagan, Rogers and a striker while keeping Bowler, I think we could push higher up easily.

Even if we lose Bowler and add Brannagan and Rogers we will have greatly improved the squad.

Season defining couple of days ahead.

Yeah I thought about those timelines and hoped the same.

Club hasn't half put us through it with Brannagan.

He could be signed now but just waiting for the release tommorow, more waiting pain 😂

Or knowing BFC and our deals so far, we'll find a way to cock it up.

This is actually a big moment as its a permanent signing for a good amount and gives us creativity in midfield.

It also tells us more about the ambition. Tbh with the amount being met we've shown that ambition, but its about getting these deals across the line. Turning ambition into reality.

Agreed, this is a potential defining moment for Sadler and Mansford.

If we went in for Brannagan a third time and failed, they would never hear the end of it and I think most fans would be really peeved
(a lot on Twitter already are judging by the people who are believing the Oxford fans saying that he's signed a 3 year deal).

If they pull it off then they've nearly broken our transfer record for a player who, by all accounts, fits the team, has room to grow, and was wanted by many Championship Playoff challengers.

Would send a message on the eve of the Championship season too to everyone else in the league that we're not just here to make up the numbers, and that we're going to kick on.

Really think (and hope for Mansford's sake) that this will get announced early tomorrow to dominate the Championship news cycle and really get the fans excited for the season.

The problems this summer have all been to do with Critchley dumping us in it and th3 seemingly unending unattractiveness of personnel at all levels wanting to join BFC — absolutely nothing u can do about that

However the positivedriver is the fan base remaining behind the Club and team — if they canrepeat the vocal performances and attendance of last season we‘ll be ok (I hope) — we mustn’t let our standards of last season drop

Down to the players to win sonegamesand get solid again

UtP

If we are using the Critchley compensation to pay for CB, and we therefore decide not to sell Bowler, then we've kept together a 60+ points championship squad (not forgetting Marv and Grimmy both signing new contracts), and we've added some real quality to it. I'd be looking up the table rather than down it right from the start if it happens.

I reckon they’ll announce it with the team sheet, Wes style
I dont see why we'd wait.

The club are trying to sell tickets for the opening game.

An announcement like this gives everyone a big lift.

There's no price penalty to walking up and buying tickets now, so we could excite people tommorow and they turn up on Saturday.

If it's done you announce it and create a buzz.

Also think this time around our approach to signing CB has been MUCH different.

The last two windows we tried to negotiate the release clause down multiple times, even throwing in Thorniley. The reason we failed to sign him was because the fee couldn't be agreed.

This time around, we've not even tried to negotiate, we've just met the release clause.

Feels very different this time.

I don't want to be rude

But surely If a player has a release clause and a relatively low one at that you just fcuking pay it

Anyway in hindsight it's good that we didn't sign him last season as we would have 'probably" be still stuck with Critchley

This really looks like it's not over and done with.

Now multiple people coming out and saying Oxford have offered him a much improved offer and he's taking some time to think about it.

If this falls through its gonna be gutting again.

Yeah but also even if we complete the deals we are rumoured to so far we're still a way away from the top sides, but top half would be progress.

Some of the predicted line ups with all those players looks really strong and exciting, with talent on the bench too that this season we can fully use, exciting times.

Certainly way better than last season start and better overall.

Let's hope we get them, Lyons, Brannagan, Rogers to go.

I think Phil, you and AmericanTangerine, are arriving at the same destination via different routes.😁

Its true.. he came here for a medical and got straight back on the bus and gone back to Oxford and signed a new 3 year deal....Already in the Oxford Mail...then there could be serious problems at our end and questions need to be asked because what we have signed so far( and no disrespect to the players )is very underwelming.

We want players who a) want to be at the club and b) are filled with ambition to play at a higher level. It appears neither of these parameters apply to Brannagan in which case we are better off without him. I hope he enjoys his next 3 years in league one.🤣

Bowler isn't off. We got £1.5m for Critch who huffed off cos he didn't get Brannagan in Jan. The board have 100% spent that cash on Brannagan for the lols.

Critch dropped Gerrards brew this morning when he found out...
Critch giving Stevie G an extra sugar lump in the morning. Fuck's sake.

Oxford has clearly spent obscene amounts of money to keep him there and it will backfire in the long run.

There are talks that he is on £14k a week.

Jerry Yates for example is on £6,100 a week.

Do we want players who're on double what everyone else is on?

It would upset the wage structure and players will start to demand more and would spiral out of control

14k a week isn’t a lot for a championship wage though.

Not saying we should offer whatever a player wants, but ultimately to play with the big boys you have to pay the going rate.

There’s only so many Bowlers you can pick up on the cheap.

It's off. Understand Cameron Brannagan was in the North West today to finalise a deal. But he's since travelled back to Oxford late this evening to sign a new contract instead. I'll say it again, you couldn't write it.
