Burton Albion v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 26.12.23

Who could you feasibly bring in? Critchley has an eye for a player, look at the last time we were in league one, he signed Embleton and Simms in January. Compare that to the shite signed by Appleton, Grayson etc. Give him the window and if things don’t change in the new year then we can look elsewhere
An eye for a player who thinks Conolly is a professional footballer 🤷‍♂️

The Burton players could go off and get a shower and a brew and wait for us to finish up here before coming back out for the full time handshakes.
A bit like the training sessions we are doing to be honest, no opposition. Modern training. 😁.

far too slow, far too predictable, against a team who really are quite poor.

We were getting behind their defence so often but couldn't actually cross from the left hand side, for the first time this year i think we might not make even the playoffs, and then we lose a a large proportion of this squad. so a rebuild is required - again.

I was feeling under the weather as it was, going to climb back under a blanket and hopefully forget that performance

I wonder if Portsmouth fans are feeling the same about their Manager having lost to Bristol Rovers. Very doubtful. On paper today’s team should have been strong enough to beat Burton or at least get a point. At lot of them are incapable of putting in 2 decent performances in succession.

I'd bring in someone who
1 Didn't big up the opposition
2. Played our best team
3. Stopped picking a team to play the opposition
4. Showed passion in every opportunity
5. Was a man manager not a coach

I think some on here genuinely relish us losing so that they can turn on Critch. We’re at the halfway point of the season and are still in contention for the play offs. Give the manager the January transfer window, back him and if results don’t pick up in the new year then maybe consider alternatives. Sacking your manager with no succession plan is stupid and won’t bring us success
Succession plan, a new buzz phrase, some on here blah blah, we know we are watching absolute garbage, 'some on here' don't get it, it's the absolutely piss poor football on offer that kills us, we might all even take a classic 3-2 loss biting your nails and sitting on the edge of your seat match. Instead we are all just bored shitless for 90 minutes and have just accepted that even if we win the football will be boring as fuck.

Yeah and who would that actually be? You have to have a succession plan if you’re going to sack your manager just before a transfer window

Awful no clue how to break them down
Disgraceful effort from manager and players
Build up too slow
No urgency. Are they actually playing for the manager? They can keep possession better than these teams at the bottom but that's it. No end product. Away from home anyway. Was disappointed with Joseph given start expected better

Too wasteful, no composure in front of goal today. And that one defensive mistake.

Haven't watched it today as doing Christmas dinner but that is absolutely shit AGAIN! Critcley is not the answer, he's a youth team coach but Sadler WILL NOT get rid under any circumstances, we are stuck with him for the next 2 or 3 seasons. Boring owner, boring manager, it's all shit and supporters are starting to turn. Never go back. We need a new manager who has never managed us before or played for us.

I am all for giving managers plenty of time . I never wanted Critchley back but have argued recently that our form is currently too good to sack a manager . I was being generous at the time as we were 6th in the form table over the last five games, but having played in some cases two games more .
Not surprisingly after losing to the 2nd worst form team (over last 5 games) the situation is much changed . I think at the half way point of the season at the very least form must be heading in the right direction, unfortunately it isn’t.

Like I've said before, too many bang average league 1 players. What sums up a bang average league 1 player, inconsistent, occasionally plays really well but generally not, does something really good followed by something really sh1te. I'd say that's 80% of our squad really. Asking these players to play this formation is asking for trouble. Too many of them are too limited to do it.
Either replace 4 or 5 first team players or make it simpler.

He’s signed Yates, Bowler, Gabriel, Ekpiteta, Ballard, Simms, Embleton, Dembele, Rhodes to name a few. Agree Connolly probably not good enough to start but he’s certainly got more right than wrong re transfers
He doesn't sign them, they are found and signed by the recruitment team. It's not them it's Sadler's total inability to take on a decent manager, he seems to like dull, grey football so he gets managers who will give him that.

Prior to today, I had hoped that Critchley would see that the only way we could challenge for a play off place was to consistently beat bottom half teams away from home: and that to do that we would have to seek to dominate teams away from the start of games.

Not a bit of it. Again a half-arsed tentative approach from the start. Concede a poor goal and show no creativity.

With 12 away games and 10 home left, we are looking at 62-63 points if this carries on and the season will be over by mid Feb.

Harsh comments from someone who couldn’t be bothered to watch it.

I was cooking a dinner too but I had my iPad by my side and hardly missed a moment.

I've supported him but my patience is wearing very thin.

He's simply failing away from home and we're nowhere near the playoffs, 7 points and teams like Barnsley have games in hand too.

We're in our own happy no mans land now.

Absolute ** gash, totally unacceptable, the owner has a decision to make, does he actually want success or is he just pissing about with our football club?😡😡😡😡😡😡
Its not Sadlers fault is it, he’s stumped up a shitload of cash and Critchley has just been beyond useless. This squad properly managed should be in the top two. Lost all faith in Critchley he needs to go unfortunately, nice bloke but he just drains the life out of everything with his negativity, obsession with3 centre half’s inverted wingers etc it’s league 1 not the bleeding champions league

The exception to that could be a stand in manager we had for 6 games. Don’t know who that would be though.😉

He chooses the managers though and he has been ** terrible at it apart from Critch mk1 and he had reached his potential and would have taken us down had he stayed.

Yep, so he's had long enough this season and it simply hasn't worked. We are too inconsistent, with players playing who shouldn't be. Change it now and who knows what could happen, but this has to stop as simply not good enough.

Of course it's Sadlers fault. He let Critchley fuck us over and then reinstated him on another 4 year contract ! ** stupid custodianship imo !

That’s as bad as I’ve watched this year Herts. Enjoy the dinner!

Interesting.

Apart from picking Connelly again and maybe not Beesley what was NC supposed to have done today? Too many wrong options, sloppy balls played by players today. The goal was a mess and Rhodes scores that 9/10 times.

This from someone who would never have hired him and think he's actually a bluffer previously hiding behind good players.

A worry for me is that nobody played well today. Grimmers cost us a goal for the 2nd time in a week. Don't get me started on Connolly.
Hard to know on the goal. I think DG could see a near post deflection kicking off and tried to cover that. He couldn't know 2 players would throw excellant dummies.

And then totally sucks out all of their talent. The team look disinterested, unmotivated and unwilling to fight for it.

We looked great and solid on Saturday. Why does he replace Beesley who is in a good run of form with Joseph who isn't ? Critchley never learns, the same mistakes on a regular basis !
Dembele had a run of form when he arrived, Critch immediately dropped him!
Kousasi made a MOM debut, scored and Critch immediately dropped him!
The same with Dale and Beesley

People on here may say fans are jumping the gun wanting Critch out, but he's the man with the team sheet and refuses to learn

Don’t want to be too reactionary, but this team and squad on paper is better than the last time we went up and for us to be in this position so consistently is nothing short of shocking.

And it’s all too predictable too, win easily at home, fall flat away against sides we should be beating.

I get wanting to respect opposition, etc, but Jesus Christ we’ve got Karamoko Dembele, Jordan Rhodes, Andy Lyons, and Ollie Norburn in our side we should be turning teams like Burton over.

Still time to turn it around though, biggest half of the season coming up next.
Embleton, keshi, Stewart, simms and yates in our promotion year are better than what we currently have. I would say the squad is probably about the same, maybe slightly worse. The difference is teams in this league, this season, are more solid and organised and we don’t appear to be able to break down sides that are worse than us on paper away from home…
