Initially a loan with option to buy, IMO a cracking signing.

We lose Mitchell and then go out and replace him with someone who is better.

Kirk for Crewe in League 1 last year was one of the best natural Left Wingers in the league with 6 goals and 8 assists and the only reason he struggled at Charlton was because the manager who signed him got sacked and then was made to play Wing Back under the new boss.

We're getting a gem of a player in a position that we need for cheap.

Shhhhh!

I think everything that I was about to post has already been said, but I'll post it anyway 😂

His dad died shortly after he signed for Charlton and he really struggled to adapt to life in London. Then the new manager comes in and plays with wing backs instead of out and out wingers so he's suddenly surplus to requirements, he's a very good player and hopefully the move back up north will benefit him.

Decent signing this 👏

I do feel a bit sorry for Mitchell though as i don't think he's really had a proper chance
I don't know much about Kirk so I hope you are right.
I think when we signed Demi we thought we were signing a left back and I seem to recall he got a few games in that position and failed to impress so we moved him forward.
He never got a sustained run in that position either and apart from a purple patch this pre-season I don't think we've ever found his best position and there's always been a player ahead of him in the pecking order.
Wish him all the best though. If nothing else it will open up a new market for him with his fashion brand.

His best position to me from what I've seen would probably be wide left either as a wing back or a left midfield player as he's all left foot

Would have loved to have seen in running down the left whipping crosses in with his left foot

We don't do that so best that he goes

Bit of a strange signing to be honest

Not the only one mind ...

Considering all the strange signings and all the long term injuries, it's a bit of a miracle where we are in the league. A league where everyone else spends more, some loads more.

Demi played a part last season. His injury in pre-season ultimately knackered his season here, this time round.

We did on Saturday 😉

I see people moaning on Twitter about how he "couldn't cut it in League 1" or "has no Championship experience" which is just complete BS in my opinion.

Have we all forgotten the club's long term recruitment strategy here? We can't afford (nor should we even if we could) to spend millions of pounds on a handful of Championship ready players who are a bit older.

Our model is to recruit young, hungry players from the lower leagues with potential who we can develop into quality Championship players who we will then sell off for big fees. It's the Brentford model and it's the best way forward.

Charlie Kirk fits that model; before his first season in League 1 (where he had 14 goal involvements) last year he had two back to back 20+ goal involvement seasons in League 2.

With Critchley he will progress and become a class Championship player mark my words.

Do some of these people know where Lavery came from ? 10 goals in all comps so far.

Played his part, helped get us up and we made a profit. Pretty much what the club is aiming to be going forward.

Just watched Kirk's best bits.
He's naturally right-footed and in most of the clips he plays on the left, just to upset you. 😉
He does go inside and outside though and he seems quite competent with his left.
As others say highlights videos are nearly always impressive.

I said to someone on Twitter before that it doesn't matter what club or league a player comes from in alot of case, it how well they fit us and our budget. The amount of people that I've seen having a go (mainly on Twitter) because we're signing from lower leagues makes me laugh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last 2 we bought from Championship clubs were Nutall and Howe. Critchley coached him years ago, if he rates Kirk as good enough for us then I trust that right now.

Its the way he's been deployed that has knackered his season

Fcuk all to do with injuries

Amazing that some are judging a L1 player, who can’t get in the team, as better than Demi. We have lost a good one there, we never saw the best of him.

You’re wrong!

Jordan Gabriel came from Forest!

I am sorry to see Demi go, but he has got a decent move and I think he will do really well there. It's football, it happens. If we get Kirk I think he will be decent but need to see him play in a few games first. Same with Dale, started with a blinder coming on against Reading but clearly wasn't recovered from injury and hasn't shown much in the few games he has started in.

As for lower league players, Marv is a great example. I wouldn't mind betting some EPL clubs are already having him watched and will be sniffing around in the summer.

I watched Kirk quite a bit when he played for Crew, my brother in law is a Crew fans so I went to quiet a few of their games, and the lad was very good for them in League 2 and made the step up to League 1 comfortably.

He doesn't get into the current Charlton team because they don't play to his strengths which is an out and out attacker out on the wing. They play with wing backs alot. So I don't think it's fair to judge him on his time at Charlton.

When it comes to comparing him to Mitchell, I've seen both play and the Kirk that was at Crew is clear of Mitchell purely because of his final ball and finishing abilities. I like Mitchell but would say Kirk is an decent upgrade.

Maybe people are saying he's an upgrade because like me, they've watched him play quite a bit of football.

This is a good response to the fact our most creative player Keshi is going to be out for weeks. I like the idea of playing a conventional winger on one side and an inverted winger on the other, particularly when the latter would be Bowler who is improving with every game. Doing this pulls defences around. Relegation is not an issue now and playing with the shackles off a bit more could well see us pushing up the table.
