CJ realises the chant is for him

He actually looked bang up for it yesterday and higher up the pitch made a big difference.

If he starts believing in himself it can only help him.

He’ll still trip over the ball and miss it the odd time but yesterday was his best game since Preston at home & that’s the problem. Consistency.

I had a lot of time for Husband realising the chant was for him and giving him a nudge forward.

Have a lot of time for CJ, keeps going despite the terrible abuse he gets. He’s always the scapegoat, even when he’s created and others have been far worse. Good games are always written off as a flash in the pan.

No he’s not perfect, most wingers aren’t. He’s created plenty since joining the club and he does need the fans to be with him, encouraging, even when things aren’t going well.

The Port Vale fans I was with a few weeks back thought he was our most dangerous player .

I may be wrong but I don’t recall any defender actually tackling him at Bloomfield Road this season. He just has that ability to glide past players.

Well done CJ, a good effective player when used right and on his day, not many if any in our squad can do what he can do when hes at it and given good through balls. Seems a lovely lad too.

I bet that chant and the win have made his day.

👍
Thats a lovely moment, and yes, very pleased for him.

An obviously talented player when used correctly ⚽⚽

Pretty sure in his time with us he has the most assists

Yep we all know his flaws and he probably does too. He can have really bad days where his touch let's him down. However he's been played out of position and clearly won't be as effective doing so.

He won't always be this good otherwise he'd be at a higher level.

But he can be almost unplayable or at least useful. At least he is one who can produce something.

With that encouragement and playing with confidence he's likely to do it a bit more.

I think he has improved over the years, he's more experienced, can defend when needed and not many get past him. Can put decent balls in and get assists, scores some goals.

He's a useful asset and had some good moments for us.

Fair play to you for doing charity work with the blind pal.

CJ was brilliant yesterday. Hopefully he can find some consistency now.

As Ollie would say, I'm chuffed as a badger for CJ. He's got his doubters and haters (rightly so at times, I agree with the inconsistency comments) but today was another showcase of his ability and different dimension he brings to our attacking play. For me Tickle was the difference for Wigan, kept them in the game and CJ was the difference for us, they could not cope with him!

I’m not one for giving our players pelters, as it’s totally counter-productive, but will put my hands up & say I’ve been one of the ‘CJ doubters’.

Yesterday he showed what he can do - proved me wrong & I’m more than happy to say so. It’s been a tough few weeks, but great to see our players coming off with smiles on their faces.

Hope that performance gives him a massive confidence boost & if he can go on to consistently produce that kind of form, he’ll be a massive asset.

Hopefully his decent performance yesterday and the fans singing his name gives him a confidence boost and he carries on playing well. However, history suggests he will now be absolutely shite again for about 15 games.
Was there any need to add the last sentence after his MOTM performance? And imo he was easily MOTM. Take a bow CJ and keep believing in yourself.

Yes, because it's true. I hope he's now brimming with confidence and puts in some consistently good performances, but you can't blame people for doubting that will happen.

It's up to him to prove people wrong.

Really? They complimented each other brilliantly in the 2nd half of that promotion season under Macmahon . But I always thought Brett was the main man
yeah, i know i'm in the minority on this but I was a big Murphy fan, Even though he scored plenty Brett just kept missing too many for me. But yep, you're right they complimented each other really well.

I don't buy all this 'used properly' stuff.

I predicted he would be one of our key players in this division.

He was brilliant yesterday. OK played further up the pitch and got the chance to attack on the wing.

However, last week he played like he had been smeared in butter.

That's the CJ quandary.

Needs to be consistent.

It's a fact and just basic footballing common sense

How is it a quandary? Playing your lightening quick, confidence based left winger at right wing back? Doesn’t take a genius to work out how that will play out more often than not

The quandary is one week he’s brilliant … the next he can’t trap a bag of sand or pass.

Of course.

Still think I’ll be right about him though.

And Critchley.

I agree with you on Murphs. What people forget about Murphs is that not only did Brett score goals partnering him but Scott Taylor scored for fun too.

He never scored anywhere else.

Murphy and Brett were one of our best front two in recentish times. Murphy was similar to big Dave bamber. Plenty of headed goals and occasional worldly volleys.

CJ can be massive for us this season he scares opposing full backs to death. Another important factor is Jordan Rhodes who showed his strikers instinct with the near post run for the first goal.
